Okay, back to Bass Direct. They have my address on file, I've bought bits and bobs from them. I paid by PayPal, which automatically gives my address. They asked for my address, again, I gave it. And they... ... and they put a different address on the bass I had just bought. I had stayed in for the delivery, so when DHL sent me a text saying, your parcel has been delivered, I was surprised. They also emailed me a photo of the front door they had attempted to deliver to. That's a holiday home, so no one was in. I went down the street knocking on doors until someone answered, and was only too happy to be shot of the huge parcel that had been dumped on them

Not that you deserve a civil answer, but for the benefit of the rest of the thread's readership: I've a P that I like very much. It weighs 9.15 lbs. My damaged left shoulder has informed me that 2022 is my final year with it. I know for a fact that my shoulder would be happy with an 8.0 lb P bass, so, wanting something to string with flats, I've been looking for one around that weight. If I can't find one, I could order another empress-bodied LB-100, which would be below 7.5 lbs, but would also be well over 6 months wait and £££££. The lower the weight, the more of a long term solution it is, the wiser I'll have spent my money.

As it happened, there were things about the bass that I didn't like, so that I didn't even get round to thinking about the weight before returning it to them. As with the part-exchange discussion, returning the bass and having the reversed transaction was smooth and 100% bs-free.

For you, what has been the net gain of this swap?

I've had two Yamaha basses recently. Both beautifully made. One was boring to play and very comfortable, one was exciting to play and very uncomfortable. Both are gone. I recently tried a budget Yamaha and was quite surprised by the iffy quality, until I realised it hadn't come from their Indonesian factory.

Yes, it's only available for Build To Order basses (currently way over 6 months waiting) and it's not even on the official list of options (G&L are quite an odd company) Since I ordered the second one there's been a price rise and the pound has gone ⤵️ 🚽 so I'm not sure if most people would think they're really worth it now. My knackered shoulder thinks a 7.2 lb P bass is worth any amount of money, so 🤷 😁 Anyway [/TANGENT] Back to the AVII 1960 P - Peach have several in stock, but haven't weighed them yet

Daddario Chromes are available in 50-105 set. I have tried both them (in a 45-60-80-105 set) and La Bellas (in a 49-109 set) and found that the Chromes had much more consistency of character from string to string. Here's a demo comparing the 52-110 DTF with the 50-105 Chromes. The bass is an SB-2, not the most obvious choice for demoing flats, but you can hear the differences nonetheless (start at 2'18") (Shame he doesn't use the G string, though!)

I think if I was looking for a P, wanting it to be at the rock end of its bijou spectrum, and wasn't needing to fret about dimensions, I would get a Roger Waters, a nicely out of fashion lump of wood going for OK prices and having a good reputation for quality. And then add a Dimarzio Model P and some heavyish steel strings. As someone with both a P and an SB-1, I would not recommend the latter to someone looking for a P - the slight differences are enough to take it away from the P's classic character (which is why I wanted one)

I've ordered a couple of basses from G&L, and both times paid extra for an empress body, just so that the this whole question goes away: no matter what, its going to be very light. I would have happily paid the same amount just to get an alder body from the light end of its natural spectrum.

Yes, these current models have standard size P + J pickups. The 424 which the OP has doesn't.
