  2. B strings are usually lower tension than G strings eg
  3. I sold a bass through them last year, and the experience was sufficiently pleasing that I'm very happily using them again right now.
  4. Something that is frustrating is when people conflate boosting the treble and bass with actively cutting the mids. Usually it helps to understand the individual perspective that comments are coming from.
  5. Don't be too sad for me, I've replaced it with a G&L SB-1, I'll live And it's over 2 lbs lighter.
  6. After too many months dithering, I pulled myself together, had a final fond play of my BB424, and sent it off to Bass Direct, where it will be sold for a price like the one I paid, ie sod all for the quality. I'm going to miss that neck so much. My knackered shoulder is insistent, though
  7. This 80 second video — which I've been thoroughly obsessed with for months — is making me want to spend 3 grand Fortunately, vintage radius is a no go for me, I'm safe 🥵
  8. Bit perplexed trying to work out what The Stye Council would do.
  9. ** SOLD ** A set of 40-60-80-100 Rotosound monel flats SM77, cut for my Squier Precision. I tend to cut a bit on the generous side, as I like to get bored whilst winding them onto the tuners. I put them on my P out of curiosity, to find out what they sound like with a Dimarzio Model P. Answer: good, but not to my taste. I suspect I just don't like making the sound of flats as much as I like listening to them. I did like how quick they are to sound, relative to La Bellas, and how even the tone is from string to string. They got them for £40 delivered from GAK, though I could have paid £50 for them from Strings Direct. So does £25 delivered for a set that has seen less than 30 minutes of very gentle play sound right?
  10. The morning after a long night on the JJ, I was sat on the Frank, waiting for something to appear out of my Cilla, when suddenly I did huge Stevie all over the floor. Oh, the Kids From!
  11. Curiosity killed the cat, I know, but I quite want to hear two octave scales played on that.... 😬
  12. Musicians shouldn't be allowed to play their hits, and the public shouldn't be allowed to listen to them .... if the public wants to listen to them playing their greatest hits ....
  13. I would be worried by someone offering me some of their Primal Cream
  14. I think EMI had strict rules about how much bass could be in a vinyl release. The details are very sketchy in my memory, but I think it went as far as restricting the equipment permitted in the studio, and was to avoid damage to listener's speakers. I might be terribly muddled though. Is this ringing any bells? PS my attempts to Google my way to locating this memory failed, but en route I found this interesting story about the Paperback Writer bass sound
  15. As well as the solid reason for having the Beatles In Mono box set — that everything sounds better — there's also the nice detail of getting to avoid owning Abbey Road and Let It Be 😎
