  1. If the singer was acquired from a endless supply of quality vocalists with an excellent range and tone, a good stage persona and sensitive musicality, then calling his bluff should be fine.
  2. The point I was trying to make is that some bassists have achieved a degree of fame, but with their playing bass not being any part of it: Mecca for singing, Nigel John Taylor for being hot, Suzi Quattro for being both, Alex James for being on the telly making cheese, Bill Wyman being in the papers for being a nonce etc. And some bassists have a negative public awareness: eg people know that there were 4 members of Queen, so somebody must be filling the final slot.
  3. Bill Wyman, though without knowing and/or caring which instrument he played Alex James, ditto Paul McCartney, ditto The guy from Thin Lizzy, ditto John Taylor, for being hot Suzi Quattro, ditto That guy in Queen, for being the one they can't quite place That guy in Led Zeppelin, ditto That guy in the Who, ditto The one in Bros who wasn't a Goss, ditto
  4. Its interesting how the Venn diagram of empowering bassists and hot young bassists that middle aged men enjoy having an excuse to watch on YouTube is always a circle.
  5. When I was 13, I want to play bass, but I got pushed into guitar. As a teenager, I only ever played bass on borrowed instruments, and I can remember nothing about them, except that they were hard work. Tuners so far away, action so high. When I was 18, a Hohner The Jack landed in my lap (where on earth were all these basses coming from? did their owners not mind me pinching them for months on end?) and it was a milestone for me too: at last I felt that a bass could be as comfortable to play as my Westone guitar. I get sorely tempted every time one comes up for sale here!
  6. One bass I bought from BC taught me just how bad an amateur set-up could be. I've no reason to think I could do any better, so I've been very happy taking all my basses to my local, thorough, conscientious and reasonably-priced tech. I'm sure that it is a very rewarding experience, being able to set up your own basses .... but so is having instruments you know are playing as well as they could 😁
  7. Are You Ready For A Miracle? - Patti LaBelle
  8. The two vacant control holes on mine are sealed up on the inside, to keep the cavity clean. Not sure what my tech used to do that, though.
  9. I rather like the look of it which is why I posted it in hoping to see similar examples. My lipstick is quite happy in my makeup bag alongside my eyeliner, mascara foundation and powder.
  10. Most times I visit this forum there's an advert inviting me to pay to be a supporting member.
  11. I was thinking of extinguishing a cigarette in it, as a kind of mojo starter.
  12. I like to think that Malcolm Young would approve
  13. Shoot To Thrill - AC DC (My autocorrect wanted Shoot To Thirsk. Well, quite, if only.)
  14. I've a bass I intend to convert to reverse as that will suit what I want from it, and I've one l'll leave as traditional as that will suit what I want from it. Neither are right, they've both got a combination of strengths and weaknesses and I take my choice. A reverse P has a more narrow pallette; on one bass I really want its consistency of tone, and will positively embrace the narrowness. On the other bass, I really want the full breadth possible, and don't care about the inconsistency. PS. CLF didn't leave the reverse P uninvestigated..... From 1975
