  1. You were also after a cheap set of 760FS. That's a link to a cheap set of 760FS.
  2. A whole back I was trying to look into the Tony Butler sig and got the impression that the style of the neck profile changed abruptly at some point. I was definitely confused enough to forget about looking for one. If there had been any to hand I could have checked out, I would have, but them were lockdown days
  3. I'm going to try to work out how such a diffident soul managed to get banned from TB
  4. If you can't judge between the quality of articulation of 15 musicians playing a basic pattern, then here's one reason why you're not coming out as number 1 of 15 musicians
  5. 760 fx / fl / fs / fm - £40
  6. I've worked in circles where making a single mistake once you're in the room with the other musicians is deeply disappointing, and a second is out of the question. Could it have been more chilled? Very much so. Would the quality have been remotely comparable? Ahahahaha. If the OP wants to be ambitious and push himself, and work with like minded people, his existence doesn't threaten your lifestyle. Chill out, eh?
  7. A more taut string sounds more taut. To my ears, that usually means a crisp, vibrant sound, with an enjoyably immediate attack, but other people notice completely different qualities. I guess we each have our individual ways of weighting the aural information we receive. A really taut string, though, is one I haven't the strength to get ringing properly, and that just sounds rubbish. I once had a 45-105 set of Fender Pure Nickels on my P for half an hour, and they were totally beyond me — I had to downtune them before I got any real tone out of them 😒
  8. Yes, this is a noise worth making
  9. I was checking through the thread to see if this had been mentioned, despite being sunburst and lined and over budget And it has. And by you. I had a nice video ready, and I feel disinclined to let it go to waste....
  10. Skip to 1 hr 26' 51" in this to hear it being underwhelming in a live mix. Mystifying.
  11. I wanted a recent arrival setting up with a 49–69–89–109 set of La Bellas, and Chris felt the only choice. I left it with him for 48 hours. As well as doing the necessary trussrod adjustment, he re-did the action, getting it low in the pattern I'm used to now ... G 1.9mm D 1.8mm A 1.7mm E 1.6mm ... and re-did the intonation. He also got the heights of the split pickup balanced for a warm, even tone, oiled the fretboard, and fitted a Dunlop straplock. Both when dropping off and picking up, he gave me 10-15 mins of his time, talking through what was wanted / how things went. The bass now plays just how I want it, and he charged me £40.
  12. Played by him it sounds just like it did in the original release video
  13. And the neck is modelled on a 1962 Jazz (note lack of laminates) Think this is the 3rd time I've linked this clip on this thread
  14. They're all Dimarzios, just disguised
  15. I realised that Nick Latham had done reviews of the BB2024, the BB Pro 34, and the BB Peter Hook, giving a chance for a reasonable comparison. Of the neck pickups at any rate. All these clips should be starting at the right place.... The P34 The BB2024 The Peter Hook And also the Peter Hook on active I think I would prefer the cheapest.....
  16. The CLF Research Series 750 models have bigger bodies than the regular L-2500, though I haven't seen anyone taking a tape measure to them to say just how much bigger. If you want a properly light L-2500, there are a few Build To Order ones in existence made of Empress. Looking at old adverts, they're around 7.9-8.2 lbs.
  17. At least, unusually light for the supply of it G&L has used in the past. Usually their Swamp Ash basses are more reliable for being lighter. Speaking of which, Greg has just listed a Swamp Ash one of these, natural finish, and 8.9 lbs
  18. In which case, you've got an amazingly light piece of basswood
  19. For what it's worth, the G&L site lists four combinations for the CLF Research L-1000 Series 750 I've never seen Empress / Pawlonia listed for a CLF Research bass — at the moment it's not even an official option for the Build To Order basses. At the moment Sweetwater have 4 × basswood L-2500 Series 750, ranging 9.7 lb – 10.5 lbs, and a basswood L-1000 Series 750 at 9.6 lb — so all meaningfully heavier than yours. I'm never surprised at what Greg manages to get out of G&L, but their being persuaded to vary the ingredients of a CLF Research model is definitely news.
  20. I'm not yet seeing the necessity of your taking your inability to perceive the potential for ambiguity in that sentence out on me, but maybe it'll come to me in the morning? 🤞
  21. Deciding that your opinion is available for sale is also a way of being a pos. "Please could you tell me which local photographer will charge me 10% more so they can pay you to pretend to think that they're good — that's the kind of outfit I would like to hire for my special day." 🙄
