  1. Very disappointed that none of the grumpy pedants of BassChat have grasped the opportunity to point out that standard long scale is 34 inches not 34 feet.
  2. 6 pages of a dozen basses each.
  3. Amongst plenty of musicians this is not remotely an unpopular opinion, but straightforward Gospel truth. After Beethoven and then Mozart, it's now Bachs turn with the title of greatest ever composer, taking dictation from on high blah blah blah.
  4. Nothing to do with the sound it makes, everything to do with the Tolkeinesque effect on its owner's fate
  5. I'm still agog at this. Under 7 lbs. Pheeeeeeew.
  6. The music of Conlon Nancarrow for player piano works well too
  7. So.... Mon morning: email contact Wed morning: dropped off Thu teatime, an email saying .... I've dowelled the existing hole, redrilled and refitted the button for you and its all secure again for you. Total for the repair is:- £25 .... and I've arranged to pick it up now, Friday morning. Quickly done. Phil met me, nice smiles. This all done socially distanced so I won't have a chance to inspect until I get it home.
  8. Over the weekend, the strap button on the bottom of my Squier dropped out of the body, just from the weight of the strap. The wood surrounding the hole is completely gone. At the end of this year I'll be selling this bass, so I thought I should get it repaired properly. I decided to take the opportunity to investigate Mor Music in the centre of town. On Monday morning I emailed them and got a very prompt reply from a lady called Lynne, and we arranged that I would drop the bass off today, Wednesday. In her emails she wrote "Just in case it's of interest - if you wanted it setting up at the same time while it's on the workbench (recommended every 6 months or so if played regularly, or after storage/temperature changes etc), prices start from £48" and "Once the work is completed in around 7-10 working days we'll send you a text & email which will include all the details you'll need to make payment online prior to arranging collection." The Squier is now with them, Lynne was very friendly when taking receipt of the bass. Acknowledging that they won't know exactly what needs to be done until they've had a chance to investigate, I asked for a very rough figure for how much this would cost me. The answer was very approximately £30, perhaps less, perhaps more. I'll report back when I've the bass with me once again.
  9. Yep still got them I'll pop them in the post tomorrow. And then I'll be in the unusual position of having no strings, neither used nor new, except the two sets on my two basses. I suddenly feel my Click To Buy finger getting itchy....
  10. Having just got hold of a soft flexible tape measure, I took the opportunity to find out exactly how the split pickup location on my 424 relates to that on my P. Measuring the distances from the nut, the bridge-side edges of the pickups are in exactly the same place. However, the halves of the BB's split pickup are 2mm wider than those of the P. This means that on the BB • the mid-point where the two halves meet is 2mm closer to the neck than on the P • the pole pieces of the E+A half are 3mm closer to the neck • the neck-side edge is 4mm closer to the neck Try not to be too fascinated by this news.
  11. Either there's another one of those now listed, or the previous one has returned. But I recall the previous one being maple fb? This one is only 8 lb 2 oz..... [/daydream]
  12. And I like this demo of the 760FL (43-60-82-104) from 1'35 (I like how it skips to two weeks older halfway through!)
  13. The demo of some 23 yr old 760FMs (49-69-89-109) between 5'00" and 6'00" here is really something
  14. He should have carried on playing whatever it was he using on the John Mayall album
  15. I do appreciate that talking 💩 is half the point of this thread but ahahahahahaha
  16. The 760FL ("light") are 43–60–82–104 The 45-65-85-105 set is 760FS ("standard")
  17. Internet says black for 45-105 DTF, so bang goes the idea some LTF had got into the packaging.
  18. I keep wondering if a set of LTF ended up in DTF packaging
  19. Given the long term effects of ibuprofen usage, this is dubious advice.
  20. I find it best not to ask my right hand too many questions as to what it's up to, I only seem to put it off if I get too nosey, but as far as I can make out, the thumb lies gently on the body, muting the E string except when it's in use. I don't know how heretical this is in terms of technique, but I know my right hand feels lovely and relaxed. (How the fingers are going about their work muting the other strings, heaven knows) Random thought: the length of a thumb in proportion to the fingers varies greatly from person to person. Presumably this has a bearing on how comfortable or otherwise a thumb rest is?
  21. Pink Floyd aren't worthy of licking This Corrosion's boots
  22. The OP prompted me to educate myself about NMA's various bassists, when did Stuart Morrow leave etc and that led me to this clip of them on The Tube. A round of applause please for the sound guy, who certainly knew what was what ps if you want to ruin your morning, spend a while poking around online trying to work out Morrow's post-NMA career 😔
