I recognise that handwriting! And I also recognise those numbers. He won't have dropped it as low as it will go, but to a place which is safe for all styles of playing. If you play with a very light touch, it's worth demonstrating that to him, so he understands what is suitable for you. If you find that you wished he had lowered it a bit further, that adjustment is included in the price you have already paid, and can be done while you wait.

I've enjoyed the GHS Boomers very much, so for me that's definitely encouraging. (I had been wondering if Rotosound were the manufacturers) The only two pure steel roundwounds I've experience of are Swing Bass (which don't suit me, unfortunately) and Pro Steel (which do) If Bass Direct or Strings Direct had stocked the GHS steels I might have tried them, too.

Anyone else like really light gauge strings?

To kill two if not three birds with one stone, you could put together a 40-55-75-100 set of Elites Players for £20 plus £1.95 shipping ... Which is about 5p more than their 35-55-75-95 and 40-60-80-100 sets. -

Pssst, Rickenbackers can now be sold in BC classifieds!
Munurmunuh replied to Downunderwonder's topic in Bass Guitars
It reminds me of when you would copy your friend's homework, and would add extra mistakes so that the teacher wouldn't notice. I would say it's an attempt to get as close as is legally permissible to a copy. Given the Fender and Musicman copies they sell, we can be sure that if Rickenbacker didn't defend their intellectual property, Thomann would be contentedly pinching it wholesale. -
When brands are owned by retailers, not manufacturers, it's difficult to be sure whether past reputations are still relevant – who knows whether they changed supplier, and if so, what consequences there were on the qualities of the string: tone, feel, durability etc. The Bass Centre's advertising spiel is pretty vague on the subject of their nickel-plated steels. They claim that their pure steel strings are less rough than other brands (presumably meaning Rotosound Swing Bass) but for these, they just say.... "Versatile and smooth feeling, Player Series strings feature a nickel alloy with less high-end attack and a pronounced mid-range definition, reducing finger noise and delivering a warm, rich, full tone. Recommended for soul, funk and vintage styles, as well as alternative rock and pop" ....which could easily be an advert for the Roto Bass set I'm currently using.....

I only own two basses, both bought used, and I wanted both of them to be as good condition as they can be. One of them had previously enjoyed the attentions of multiple owners who had hands-on attitudes, which left it needing significantly more attention from the tech than the which had been spared any well-meaning tinkering, but which still benefitted from a professional's experienced eye to get just right. The price of getting these two basses in excellent playing condition was an absolute bargain in comparison with most things in this world (eg bass guitar strings) and the choice between knowing that I've got my basses in their best possible condition and knowing that I've got the approval of some old men I've never met doesn't really look like one.

It's a Harley Benson, on sale on the Thomann website, and so presumably safe from Rickenbacker's lawyers. If that bass was offered here, would all be fine? It's clearly a copy of a Rickenbacker, but deliberately incorrect enough to dodge copyright. If this kind of bass is permitted, someone is going to have to examine every Rick-ish advert, but without the benefit of advice from Thomann's legal team -

😎 Listing of Rickenbacker products: Listings for copies of Rickenbacker products are not permitted. Listings selling or otherwise trading, soliciting or exposing for sale any GENUINE Rickenbacker products are permitted but currently under trial. The ban that was in place until January 2022 may be reimposed in the event of further threats from Rickenbacker. I foresee a lot of wrangling over how close to the wind one may sail. Is this a copy? -
Sometimes I wish EBMM had also trademarked forgetting to put the paint on 😇 😘

For no reason beyond their being cheapish and easily available individually, am feeling a bit curious about these strings. At the moment I've a set of Rotosound Roto Bass on the go, and also have recent experience of Fender 7250 and GHS Boomers, so if anyone could relate describe the Players in relation of one of those, that would make sense to me.... But even if not, would like to hear whatever recent thoughts on them there are to be had

That was my hazy recollection, too

Was this thanks to EBMM making litigious noises?

Rosewood, three tone sunburst, gold guard, chrome covers: Doesn't seem a change worth spending actual money on. Browsing through a Google image search, the anodized pickguards seem happier on the more muted two tone sunbursts - the bit of red in three tone seems to trump the gold. (But maybe I'm just preferring what I'm used to seeing?) Anyway, Rotosounds on that, right?

I recently put Daddario steels on my P and am very impressed with them, enough that I wondering if my experiences of Daddario XL Nickels were so coloured my unhappiness with the tone of my TRBX that I need to revisit them and give them a second chance.

What with?

Be sure to keep that self admiration in the fridge, it curdles really fast

My 3rd and 4th fingers are busy muting strings, which is weird, because I never asked them to, they just decided that I was sounding a bit more rubbish than I needed to, and started tidying up around me. Great tip I got taught a long time ago on a different instrument, but which applies everywhere: work on the last four notes of a tricky passage first, then the last eight notes, then the last twelve notes, etc. Once you've learnt the whole section, when you're playing through it, you'll always be moving onto a handful of notes you're more familiar with, rather than constantly moving further away from what you're comfortable with.

About a year or so ago Bass Gallery had multiple PP basses. Pretty sure there was more than one Stingray.

Giving away my 45-105 set of 7150 here. Would rather they went to someone who's read this thread.
