  1. Mozart's 25th piano concerto while I had breakfast at half six. The last thing I listened to last night was Killing Is My Business. Think I got my uppers and downers the wrong way round.
  2. Some great little demos in this review of the PH iirc he did the same for the 2024 a while back
  3. Moving pickup positions changes the tone? Why did no one tell me?? 😭
  4. No complaints about the quality of the string, if anything the tone felt more even and clear as I moved around than on 7250s.
  5. And off they've come already, a fresh set of 7250M have replaced them. Ahhhhh that's better I knew it would be an experiment, and I knew within 5 minutes they weren't for me. Good clear low notes on the E string, btw, a bit better clarity than on the 7250's .105
  6. By the way, this 45-105 set of 7150M sounded a lot more characterful when I momentarily tuned them to Eb Standard. I might give that another go before I entirely give up on them. As said earlier in this thread, no floppiness at all when tuned down β€” at E Standard they are very tumescent
  7. The all-nickel 7150s have indeed successfully cut the knackers off my P 😳 They will be replaced very soon.
  8. I think it was left to him in BE's will Edit: trying to find a YouTube clip to substantiate that, I think I've got that wrong. Rather, BE gave it to him deep into a late night pΔ±ss up. Imagine waking up with a clattering hangover and thinking, I wonder what foolishness I got up to last night...... oh ffffffffffffffuuuuuuu...... The good news is that JT still uses it on tour
  9. I recently worked out the wiring for a three-way switch going between the three possible pairs of four adjacent coils, always in series. Without the option of wiring them in parallel complicating things, it turned out to be quite straighforward. Basically all 4 are in a single chain and the selector is deciding where in the chain to start and finish.
  10. Speaking of four halves, something pinched from TB a while back, two splits run together PS I keep thinking through this, and always end up thinking it would be more fun shifted one block of plastic closer to the bridge. Then you've one Reverse P in the BB1200 spot, and one Reverse P in the Stingray spot. Would that sound any good? Sure I don't know
  11. I listened to three tracks at random. The songs seemed not to be the kind of material where the bass line really needs to be up and driving everything along in a muscular way I think the problem is that the guitar sound is too raw and bright: those little details are being rammed in our face, distracting from the song, when they should be kind of how your bass already is, supporting the song (Now I've written that I want to go back to the first Geneva album, which I haven't listened to in many years, and hear how they mixed those kinds of guitar figures)
  12. I decided to play with pictures. If the BB split was moved down to the SB-1 position and then reversed .... that would be a very unhappy pg. I remember once listening to a demo of the Sims pickup. Jack of all trades, etc, I felt. PS "any wooden block and/or filler will eventually move differently to the body wood and a tell tale 'ghost' will appear" - fairy godmothers wielding magic wands don't encounter these problems. Perfect job, every time.
  13. Where I would want the Reverse P (a smidgen bridgeward) would make a filthy mess of the edge of the pickguard, I fear. No, this is just the latest in my endless series of stupid daydreams. And anyway, I've just promised all my money to G&L. Still, if a fairy godmother were to magically flip the split on my pg-less 424, that would be, well, magic 😏 She would be very welcome to paint it black afterwards, to cover the opencast mining.
  14. β€’ Take a 1024 β€’ Reverse the P β€’ Toggle to the left, bass works like a passive P: split pickup, vol, tone β€’ Toggle to the right, a 3 band preamp turns on, hidden in the cavity, with the blend, treble, mids and bass all set to the one combination I like (mids massively up to counter the natural scoop, treble and bass backed off a bit, blend slightly favouring the bridge) β€’ Give it a bit of a tidy up 😬 β€’ Pray that making the cavity bigger hasn't made the neck dive too badly
  15. And even though it didn't exist, it was still 43mm DAMMIT. So, this is easy. I just need a BBPH, my 424, and a chisel
  16. Am having a totally pointless bundle of thoughts that could be summarised along the lines of, Was there ever a BB with reverse P, rail J and 3-band eq?
  17. *taps mic* Ah, this account is still working. I think
  18. "the moderators aren’t equipped or obligated to moderate politics, sex, race, religion, tax, PayPal, whatever. So as soon as any of us spot a thread about any of that, or if any thread veers in that direction, it’s locked" Will you be locking the thread yourself?
  19. Fortunately after shifting it here from Germany it would be prohibitively expensive
  20. Like this BB-V, you mean.... πŸ˜‡
  21. It was only when reading the blurb just now that I realised that the paisley shape is arranged as a bass clef:
  22. I've just been looking at the very thorough tension charts supplied by GHS. If you're used to 40–60–80–100 for EADG, then for D standard 45–65–85–105 would be a bit slacker across the board, and 50–70–90–110 would be a little more tense than what you're used to, again across all the strings. One notch bigger and a bit more slack sounds easier to deal with than two notches bigger and harder work.
  23. Probably not worth playing different notes now you mention it
  24. If your a mug designer, and you've already put a Strat on do you (a) put a Precision (b) look for something that provides some visual variety? It's not that they've been ignorant or careless, it's that they've been good at their job in a way you're choosing not to perceive.
