  1. I spent money on a Matt Freeman sig, in essence one of the CIC CVs, not because it was made in China but because the neck specs were quite different to the current models — deeper but not so wide. If the 43mm slim C suits you, good for you. It wouldn't suit me.
  2. He's such a Yammy man that another 1600 will be coming along in his life sooner or later, whether he intends it or not. Keep the Fender!
  3. So, you've been a member of BC for four days now. How you finding it? 😬
  4. I've now got a pack of 7150. Can't decide whether to try them on my BB (PJ, rosewood fb) or my Squier P (Dimarzio Model P, maple) The Squier currently has a set of 7250, so I would get a nice clear comparison of the two .... but would all-nickel and the Dimarzio cancelled each other out? Never had all-nickel before, so am feeling a bit clueless
  5. As I've suddenly gone off the PJ combination on my 424 (which I suspect is just my general dislike for the sound of two pickups together finally asserting itself) I'm going to try a set of Fender 7150 next, to see if 100% nickel will thicken up the middle of the sound a bit better than the Boomers. They're still hexcore, so my fingers should like them. Anyone ever put them on a BB?
  6. As an example of Bass Direct's usual prices, they started my TRBX604 (available for £570 brand new) at £525, and then after a while dropped it all the way to £499 So them starting something at an ebay price does look unusual, no? I always wondered where on earth the popularity of the awful Fiesta + tort combo came from. The sole blot on Pino's record?
  7. Surely they got the memo on what CIC CV prices are doing? 2014 bass in excellent condition with light player wear. Perhaps this is another Bass Direct price typo. Perhaps it's a consignment sale and the seller has asked for it to be priced to sell toot sweet? 🤷 For context there's a good condition 2010 60s P being offered here for £475.
  8. You would have thought at that price Macca could have included one in the case
  9. Flaky is a proper insult, as all professional performers know.
  10. And yet they're not done, astonishing. What could the explanation possibly be? Incompetence? Purely idle laziness? A perverse desire to annoy the internet commentariat? Or a retailer whose time and manpower are limited exercising the right that belongs to him alone to decide what to prioritise on the endless to do list that is the reality of a retail life?
  11. I knew Chris was the guy for me when I saw the Mor Music website bothering to make the effort to attempt to shove the boot into him. That made me very happy to go past Fossgate and walk a mile further to the south. Something I have been wondering: when after a few days I found the action on my Squier was still a tiny bit too hard work for my fretting hand, Chris lowered it further for me, at no charge — is that standard practice for techs? (I was amused to have walked 4 miles for a 0.3mm adjustment )
  12. How do people who have trouble getting around that website manage to move from the E string to the A string?
  13. For no reason at all, I've just been comparing the specs of the BB234 with the TRBX174, which is quite different to the rest of the TRBX range (which is all ice lolly stick necks and humbuckers) Both have ceramic PJ pickups, both have 40mm nuts, both have 4 bolt necks (the 6 bolt for the BB starts with the 434) The TRBX174 neck is very slightly *thicker* than the BB234, and the much smaller TRBX174 body is mahogany, whereas the BB234 is alder.
  14. He does like to have an instrument with him for a few days for a set up, so that he can respond to how it settles in to his adjustments.
  15. If you leave it out the fridge it'll just want chucking out anyway
  16. This has all been pretty basic stuff, but Chris at Wintaura set up three basses for me over the last 18 months, and I've been very happy with the results. The neck on a older bass needed a new nut shaping and fitting, to bypass an S bend which had developed around the first fret. Young, friendly, conscientious guy. He's on Campleshon Road, between the Bishy Road and the racecourse.
  17. Who was claiming the copyright infringement? The publishers of the song, or the holders of the rights of the original recording? If the latter you need to appeal, because your recording has nothing to do with them. The automated software is pretty inaccurate. During the lockdowns classical musicians were having their home videos of, eg, 17th century works pulled because of supposed copyright infringements. Clearly this was nonsense.
  18. They managed to sell my TRBX604 ... they stock strings I'm interested in at good prices ... their website is a bit clunky. That last bit doesn't take the shine off the first two.
  19. Was there ever a BB which combined a reverse P (like a 300 or 1200) and a 40mm neck (like a 424 or 1600)? Aside from the BBPH, and Maude's modded 424, I think not. More realistically, I'm still wondering about modding the toggle switch from bridge/both-in-parallel/neck to both-in-series/neck/kill.
  20. I found an old TB post saying the 414 needs a 5mm allen key – I can't see Yamaha changing a detail like that between the 414 and the 424....
  21. I'll shop carefully, I've a good household goods store nearby.
