Peter Hook auctioning off equipment/memorabilia
Munurmunuh replied to Belka's topic in General Discussion
Just noticed this lovely detail in the description -
If I hadn't simply decided to sell my TRBX, which has similar style pickups, I would have been looking at seeing if replacing them with fat single coil pickups would have given me a sound with more meat to feed into the preamp. I'm still wondering if that would have been simply a daft idea, so if anyone wants to tell me.....
-
I know nothing about the realities of wiring, so this is just me repeating what I've read: whilst the coils are in series, the cap is wired in parallel with one of the coils
-
Get a move on or you'll miss out 🙄
-
How much does a used bb734a cost? How much would having the split pickup reversed and the bridge pickup and 2nd vol knob removed cost? How much would having it refinished in classic bb red cost? How much would you lose trying to sell the resulting bodge job? Does a grand for the real thing still seem expensive?
-
Another bass where a pair of L-2000 MFD humbuckers wouldn't be expected The two upper switches do the parallel / single / OMG for the neck and parallel / single / series for the bridge two of the three lower switches are on/offs, the third is yet to find a use
-
Do you find yourself using both choices?

I like this guy, Fernando Rosa. This account seems to have gone quiet — I've been told he's still posting on Instagram, which I don't have
-
It's all relative – eg this note is a minor third above the last note so I either go three frets forward or two frets back and up a string. I even do it when reading the music in the first place – I'm not reading the notes themselves but the relationships between them. Is that what you meant?
-
Those fretboard stickers are making me realise that I still never know the actual name of the notes on the fretboard ..... and that maybe learning that info might help a bit 😅

To be accurate.... ....they were paid, the disagreement was over how the performance royalties etc were to be divided up. Moz+Marr couldn't prove that Rourke+Joyce had been informed of and had agreed to the 40–40–10–10 split that had been operating since day one. Since Rourke had made a final settlement before the trial and couldn't exploit the decision made in Joyce's favour I guess that means performance royalties are now being split 32½–32½–10–25? At any rate, Joyce and Rourke were always getting a share of the performance profits. ....It was Joyce's own lawyer who used that description of Moz's attitude towards Rourke and Joyce I'm sure if The Smiths reformed, the absence of Joyce trotting along behind the drums would make 0% difference, either to the massive sales or the quality of the performances. And I'm sure if Rourke was offered 10% of the massive mountain of money sitting waiting for that moment, he would be extremely happy.

Sunburst isn't a colour, just a default setting
-
-
When and why did Yamaha get the idea that more we want to spend on a bass, the less interest we will have in nice colours? Most interesting colour available per model: 424 — Red 1024 — Caramel Brown (sombre trans red) 2024 — White 234 — Raspberry Red 434 — Teal 734 — Translucent Matte Black P34 — Midnight Blue

Andy Rourke playing a P? Go on then
-
Exactly the kind of demo most useful to me
-
Found the right paint for refinishing a boring natural BB2024x edit: just remembered – there was no natural 2024x .... but there was a 'vintage sunburst' in need of covering up
-
This gives us a chance to make requests..... Mine would be: your three favourite settings .... first demoed all playing the same music .... then demoed each playing something the setting suits best.
-
Ideally, we want the undervalued 424/5s to keep drifting up in price, and the slightlysteep 2024/5s to carry on slipping down ... until the upgrade only costs another fiver or so ... 😬

A front man should find being both Joey and Johnny Ramone simultaneously an exhilarating experience

Comparing the studio albums and live recordings of most bands like these makes me feel that more Jimmy Pages should have done what Johnny Marr eventually did and found themselves Craig Gannons. (In Pete Townsend's case, he should have found himself a Johnny Marr)

For £300, I was delighted to get exactly the model I wanted in excellent condition strung with new and good quality strings, at the exact moment I wanted it, delivered. Especially as a few months earlier I had paid almost twice that for a bass that didn't suit me, that needed setting up and which came strung with twangy Daddarios that did the poor thing no good at all. Amongst the huge pile of money I've pushed in a bassward direction in that 12 months, that £300 stands clear as the only sensible, restrained bit. Once I had got my Matt Freeman up to a level where I am just about as pleased with it as I am with the 424, I had spent £600. No regrets, but still, it makes the 424 look an absolute bargain.

The £300 I paid on 30 Dec 2020 for a mint 424 was felt to be a bit steep.
