  1. Given the role the bass typically takes, it would be more like "I'm no Kenny Sansom but....."
  2. Gah, well just so I can at least finish on something that fits the criteria, Ruby Red Metallic. And now I'll 🤐
  3. Ah understood, not daft at all. And in light of that, I vote shell pink 😬
  4. This just appeared on TB's BB thread. May I vote whatever this shade of white is called? (Alpine White? Snow White? Stamford Demographic White?)
  5. I remember going to Poland in the mid-90s, seeing people being served perfectly good pizzas and then squirting tomato ketchup all over them
  6. Oh, yeah, Django Reinhardt! In the 65 seconds from 1'45" here, such variety of tone and expression and articulation. Lovely
  7. My 424 sounds and feels like a Jazz?! 😜
  8. Love the look of maple + white pg + a bold colour
  9. This thread made me think of this advert.... sadly the bass is now sold. But, still, a nice indication of what's available. Jazz style Peavey
  10. Wouldn't complaints about the TB membership be more fruitfully placed on TB?
  11. Oh, I should have had that on my list, too. Frustratingly, I had really enjoyed "Dr Mabuse" on Now 3, but didn't get around to getting to know A Secret Wish for another 30 years. Ugh. ps I also knew of The Cure and The Smiths from early Now albums, so I really had no excuse
  12. Did you pop into Popolino while you were passing?
  13. I love Prince's guitar playing, but .... but he's a Fisher Price Chris Poland, no?
  14. The Yamaha TRB1004J is 35" scale. 40mm nut, two humcancelled single coil pickups, 3 band EQ Yamaha TRB range
  15. I like the punch, I'll stay happy with my 424. Still want it in white though.
  16. Some of his earlier singles I can still just about listen to, but the stuff on that album.... yeugh
  17. The gloomy mid 80s indie kid party pack
  18. ...and sometimes the guitarist just needs a little help...
  19. I'm perfectly content with my 424, but the knowledge that for just £5 more I could have had a 1024 is making me daydream a bit. I know that they make pretty similar sounds, but what would be the biggest tonal difference between the two? From the YouTube demos I've heard, the biggest difference is in the quality of the neck pickups soloed. I get the impression that the 1024's is the same style as the 424's but with a bit more liveliness and complexity. (On my 424 I find that I need both pickups together to make a satisfyingly complete sound.)
  20. In 1985, there were available a handful of recent releases which I could have bought then, had I known what I would like, but which I overlooked, and only came to know and love later on: Powerslave - Iron Maiden (Sep 84) Ride The Lightning - Metallica (Jul 84) Killing Is My Business - Megadeth (Jun 85) Cyclone - Vow Wow (sometime 85) Head on the Door - The Cure (Aug 85) Meat Is Murder - The Smiths (Feb 85) First and Last and Always - The Sisters of Mercy (Mar 85) Psychocandy - The Jesus and Mary Chain (Nov 85) But this is what, in 1985, I actually spent my money on: Dream Into Action - Howard Jones
  21. I'm worried that anyone could be training anyone else that its perfectly acceptable to tell people what to do with their own lives. If someone gets more pleasure tinkering with a unnecessarily large collection of instruments than they would struggling to turn themselves from a third rate player into a second rate player, so what? For all we know, the pleasure of thinking about lovely stuff helps sweeten the pill of their indifferent ability. Who are we to be poking our noses in? Who are we to say that we've worked out the best way to live? It's all very impertinent.
  22. Shall I trust (a) Greg at Rocket Music in Blacksburg, Virginia (b) Opinionated Internet Guy? 🙄
