Mesa Boogie Road Ready 215 - *WITHDRAWN*

So, played this in anger through a rather large Mesa rig at the weekend and it did not disappoint. It has that wonderful clarity and character that comes with the classic Precision SC but being able to blend the two PUPs brings a whole new World of tone to the party. It's also incredibly resonant, light and playable. Only quibble is that the roll-off on the tone is extreme to say the least, moving from twang to dub within a few degrees, so I'm going to take a look at the circuit in the near future. Gut feel is that we're going to see a few more Twin SC Precisions, it works very nicely. Full review with pics and clips to follow 👍

Will get that, thanks for the heads up. First month of my Electronic Music Technology course at ELP and we were marched round to Sarm East where we had the pleasure of seeing Trevor Horn recording ABC’s Lexicon of Love. At the time I was into Kraftwerk, King Crimson, Hawkwind, and Fischer-Z so wasn’t as impressed as I would be now 🤔

Great playing also 👍

Great thread, both the idea and the content, nice one @Doctor J

That’s good to know, thanks 👍

It’s in the small room so will only be low volume, will move it into the big room (not yet built) for anything more. And yes, this thing will happily take the wall off a building if one is not careful, not helped by a rather sensitive master volume curve 👍

Thanks Paul, that's going to help for sure 👍

Probably the specifics might be down to our good friend in Petulma @agedhorse, but is there any reason I shouldn't use a large combo on its side? The combo in question is a Mesa Carbine, it would only be used at low volumes when on its side, and at present main concern is that on its side one of the fan vents would be blocked, although I'm worried there may be unknown unknowns? Interestingly the unit should have fitted upright into a nice little alcove in my new studio, but guess what......? Thanks Chris

If you're the type of guy who holds on to a single bass over extended periods of time you're going to struggle on this forum Only joking, lovely bass, sincerely wish I could find one bass to rule them all, god knows I've tried........

See how it sounds in the final mix before you do anything, amazing how the style of play can define the recorded instrument as an upright as opposed to electric bass often more than FX.

Well, I started taking this apart on Friday and it was clear that it is a bloody well engineered piece of kit, after 2-hours I'd only managed to get the door out. Continued for another couple of hours on Saturday managing to get the whole front wall out. But even what was to all intents just over half a side wall weighed a bloody tonne even without the door and rather heavy glass!!! So, i decided to call on a few friends to do the rest but realised pretty quickly that this is a job for pros, we left a ladder and some wood in there just in case having dislodged the ceiling ever so slightly! Today four very strong and experienced removal guys came in, and it nearly beat them as well. While I was cursing the builders at times for having used so many screws and such heavy panels, it brought home the difference between buying an off the shelf and relatively lightweight unit (I looked at a few that were all very expensive compared to this) and having one engineered by guys who know what they're doing. Even the base weighed a tonne and turned out to be, like the sides, triple ply and about 3-4cms thick! No idea how I'm going to get it back together in the new studio, but that's a problem for a couple of month's time now I guess 👍
