  1. Not exactly a vote of confidence this thread is it. Explains why I’ve never seen anyone using one 🤔
  2. 44 years old to be precise and yes, that's pretty much the truth of it. People were saying much the same of late 60's Fenders ten years ago, and look at the prices of those now. If you don't get the reality of the seller's market that defines vintage Fender prices it's best to stay away from eBay and Reverb, as I do 🤔
  3. I’m keen to hear answers to the same question, although I’m 99% decided to buy one, Yamaha rarely get things wrong after all 👍
  4. Thanks Gareth, is that a unit designed to clamp onto the speaker?
  5. I'll be interested in the answer to this question as well. My concerns around the band centre on the fact I don't think I've ever seen anyone using one, but that might just be luck..... Re pre-amp, that will depend to a degree on what amp you're using but I've yet to find a DB PUP that didn't sound better with a preamp, even those that reportedly don't need one 👍
  6. Not sure I'm getting what you mean there? EDIT: Got it, mind was elsewhere when I read it first time around 👍
  7. Ha ha, we are agreed then! What amp did you use this with Gareth?
  8. Saw Chris Wood playing one of these, which in itself is a pretty serious endorsement, and he made it sound pretty close to not only an upright, but a decent upright at that. I'd love to have this in my collection, flight case must make life very simple. I still miss my Chadwick but it was a real PITA to build and take down at times, this looks to have things covered nicely 👍
  9. Yep my Sonic Hammer was far from sterile for sure 👍
  10. Fleas are great instruments irrespective of which PUP/pre combo is installed 👍
  11. Mate, you look cool as f**k playing the Jetglo; don't sell it 👍
  12. Yep, I had a similar experience when I briefly returned to fretted, found I had to work so much harder to play everything. Jaco always said frets slowed him down, I guess the trade off for precise intonation is effort, at least if you’re used to playing fretless
  13. Just noticed the Krivo's not currently installed in the photos as it's on my 4/4, will be included or can drop price by £150 or so without
  14. Thinking of moving to the SLB-300 for a few reasons but mostly for portability; despite being a whole lot easier than my 4/4, this baby can still take some moving around. Krivo mag PUP adds a new dimension to the tone, especially when blended with the onboard pre-amp. No trades thanks, collection from Canterbury ideal but may be tempted into the car or onto the train with it. For those of you who like an EUB to feel like an upright, this is the EUB you've been looking for. As an instrument to play it feels the part more than any other EUB I've played, and I've probably played most of the main contenders at one time or another. Close your eyes and use headphones and the feel and sound are as close as you'll get (I tend to rehearse it unplugged acoustically as it's fine as long as there's no background noise). Speaking length is just under 42 inches/106 cms and it's a D neck. Sound-wise it's taken me a long time to get the tone I want from it. In fact, having worked through various wing, underfoot and fingerboard PUPs, I've found that the tone on which I get the most compliments from both my bandmates and audiences is the at first hearing rather thin sounding and mid-heavy tone from the onboard circuit, which despite not sounding great solo'd seems to work really well with a band (also very well with headphones which is what the bass was originally developed for of course). The smaller the overall sound of the band the more I blend in the Krivo which adds some weight to the tone especially to the lows. It's Yamaha. It is the most stunningly engineered instrument, you get the sense that it would take a seismic event to damage it, and although there are a few dents here and there, the bits that matter, the board, bridge, tailpiece and tuners are all in perfect functional and aesthetic condition. I'm not sure I'm going the prefer the SLB-300 but I'm pretty sure I'm going to find it easier to carry to gigs and rehearsals. The only down side of the 100 is that it is very heavy - way heavier than my 4/4 in fact, and very long. There's a very big part of me would like to keep it and also buy the 300, take the 300 out with me and keep the 100 for silent practice at home. But that part of me also hasn't got as much money as it would like to think it has so is probably going to be disappointed 🤔 Strangely enough, despite being the oldest of the SLB series this is still far far the most expensive and will take close to £5,000 out of your bank account if you could find one for sale https://www.yamahamusiclondon.com/SLB-100-Silent-Upright-Bass/pidKSLB100. This is perhaps a reflection of the fact that in the context of it's original application - a silent headphone oriented rehearsal instrument for professional musicians as opposed to a gigging instrument - it really does tick all the boxes in a way that the more recent Yamaha models, developed with an eye to gigging, perhaps don't.
  15. Strikes me as a pretty impressive line up, I'd love to be going 👍
  16. I would love this, heard some great things about them 👍
  17. Yep, it's why I had to sell all my Firewire gear
  18. Wow, these do not come up often. i had a real tussle deciding between this and the SLB-100, the latter only won because not gigging all that often I prefer the greater length of the 100, and as I use a mag PUP at the end of the fingerboard anyway, the better core tone of the 200 is also less of an issue. But if I were gigging a more and if I were looking for a more DB-consistent tone, I'd certainly be looking at this; unusually for an EUB it produce acoustic tone, it's small and packs away into a case not much bigger than the average mic stand case, yet still feels like a DB to play. And it's Yamaha so you know you're getting extraordinary build quality and functionality. These are used by quite a few gigging pros for these very reasons. Bet you're a bit sad to see it go Nick?
  19. I really can't afford this, but keep coming to this page to look and wonder what it would be like to own/play that beautiful instrument. Do you have any recordings, especially of the the low end?
