  1. I agree, but Fender haven't done this to sell the bass in question to players like Blu, they've done it to sustain their relevance with the demographic that aspire to be Blu. They don't care whether the bass sells by the 10s or by the thousands, but the fact that people are talking about Fender in the present tense, that some people new to Fender believe they are relevant, still others even that Fender understand them, that's where the mojo is for Fender 👍
  2. Sorry thought I'd replied to this, 4.2kg/9lb4oz, balances nicely 👍
  3. I feel this thread - or this phase of this thread - has come to it's logical conclusion, final few lines of this seem relevant......
  4. "Alexa, play Lonnie Donnegan" Gotta laugh, first song appears to be about 'The Young Folks'
  5. Just joshing mate, but that was exactly my point, we each have our own terms of reference for life, those that my daughter's generation share are very different to those of many if not most of the contributors on Basschat, and I suspect that this thread demonstrates it. Blu is very much a member of the former and is speaking to that demographic, our points of reference - as Fender's PR and marketing depts are aware - are largely irrelevant in this context. And I wish I could have liked Lonnie Donnegan, just one song!
  6. Yep, my Dad was likewise underwhelmed by longhairs and transistor radios and preferred to get his kicks from Lonnie Donegan LPs No disrespect to my Dad BTW, but I never could bring myself to like Lonnie Donegan no matter how many listens
  7. It's quite amusing that last week a poll was started asking the age of members, I suspect reading this thread would have achieved the same, we really are largely a bunch of out of touch old blokes aren't we 😃
  8. All good points but again relates to the 'what is commercial success?' question raised earlier. Why would she need to join a gigging band, she can no doubt have an easier, more financially rewarding, and potentially happier life generating content, recording music, and monetising other processes related to these? If either of my daughters wanted to be a musicians these days and were given the choice of an 18-month World tour (and those of you who've done them know that the excitement wears off after a week), or being around their close friends, doing what they love doing but having a normal life beyond it, I suspect I know what my advice would be 👍
  9. As was mine, virtually no finish on the board making it unplayable with anything but low tension tapewounds. Also had slightly oversized headstock. I might have been unlucky of ocurse 👍
  10. Abilities and image. Exactly the two reasons I found Jaco and Mick Karn so aspirational in the 80's, but Mark King and Pino less so. If that makes me superficial so be it 😀
  11. That's a great shame, hope no-one here is affected
  12. But so what? Do you approve of her dress sense?
  13. Embarrassingly I'd not actually checked out Blu's playing, and on the basis of a few posts here had assumed it was perhaps style over substance. But having now done so: 1: She's a significantly better player than I am or ever will be. 2: She's certainly as good a player as any of the bassists I know, and i know a few 3: She's probably a better player than a significant and substantial percentage of the members of this forum.
  14. THIS ^ About 10 years ago I tried to make the point that middle-aged men using relatively provocative images of women as their avatar wasn't especially encouraging to female members. IIRC it didn't go down well. Re this thread, to be honest I'm surprised a mod didn't openly challenge at least two of the posts above; as you suggests @Supernaut, if I were a girl or woman new to the forum reading this thread, and despite the very positive attitudes of many of the members, I wouldn't feel it is a place I'd want to frequent
  15. Thanks. Putting feedback to one side, if I change my username today would there be any way another member would know or could check whether the owner of the new username used to be @Beedster?
  16. I find it’s less the complexity of the processes than the complexity of the writing that describes the processes. It’s like learning statistics, every book is written by a statistician, and they don’t think like the rest of us. Same with tech, guy who helps me out is lovely but often after a very long explanation that I failed to decipher I’ll ask him to explain as if to an idiot and bingo. There seems to be a tendency among experts to make the thing in which they’re expert seem more complex than it is 🤔
  17. Thanks, happy with East Street?
