  1. Thanks @Andyjr1515 and @BigRedX. As far as I can tell this version has the active circuit that balances the changing PUP outputs but a conventional passive circuit, but I will do some checking and photography this evening and report back. Thanks for your help 👍
  2. Thanks Andy, that's my thinking, my main concern is of any potential interaction between the J-Retro and the circuitry associated with the Quads to be honest, any thoughts (can't see there could be a problem but then it's about 40 years since I learned anything knew about electronics so.......)?
  3. Hi @Andyjr1515, many thanks for the above. I have what I believe is an early Enfield fusion FL that also appears to be passive in terms of tone controls (I say appears because I'm not expert on what the circuits do). I'm looking to fit the J-Retro in the front cavity as would normally be the case, the body has a standard Jazz route.
  4. Very happy to post this of course 👍
  5. Think it might be this guy.....
  6. He also has this Jaco-related item at a bargain price of $850, frankly I'm not sure if this isn't even worse than the bass https://www.ebay.com/itm/113728005656?hash=item1a7ab7a618:g:Jd0AAOSwxUNhLnWI The face in the drawing really reminds me of someone, just not Jaco
  7. Thanks @BigRedX, that's probably the best bet, I was tempted to install the J-Retro on a suck it and see basis, I think I may see if John has any ideas ahead of doing so 👍
  8. Rather nice and portable unit from MarkBass for sale. Original listing here Great amp in great condition but now made redundant by some new gear (wasn't it always so.....). Cheers Chris
  9. Bought a few weeks back, original listing here... Lovely head in perfect condition but having bought this as both a backup and a 'desktop' head for home practice, I've now bought myself an old-school Mesa head that does the former and some new studio gear that does the latter, so this is up for grabs for what I paid, as will be my MarkBass 602 and PJB Bighead V2 which are also going in the same wave of gear redundancies Cheers Chris
  10. Mad claim (and also untrue)
  11. All the best with the recovery @Telebass, start of a new road perhaps 👍
  12. I think it's great that Bass Direct are looking to stock uprights, despite the fact that many of us play both electric and upright there are very few shops that deal with both at any real quality level. But if they're looking to get into this space they'll need to make sure they have an expert because neither the visuals or the written description encourage much confidence in the instrument, for example 'USA made strings' and 'Quality machine heads', there's a lot of competition at that price point from far more established and far more detailed retailers such as Thomann. But I hope they're successful, seems a step in the right direction 👍
  13. Many thanks for all the above post folks, apologies for delayed response, I was planning on wiring it in this weekend until I read.... ....which is an interesting post, thanks @BigRedX. The tone circuit itself is passive, or certainly appears and responds as if passive (VVT), but I must admit that the electronics in the rear cavity certainly look more complicated than they'd need to be to simply switch on the lights so I assume you're indicating that's a pre-amp albeit preset?
  14. That’s outstanding, rare combination very technical, very busy, and very musical 👍
  15. Seems to be a lot of love on here for Bass Gallery and some hostility towards Bass Direct, my experience is 100% in favour of Bass Direct who have been without problem on around 30 purchases
  16. That’s the BC effect 👌
  17. i tried to buy from them directly so no excuses 🤔
  18. If you’re buying online from there I’d suggest you check it’s actually in stock, I bought a vintage Fender from their website a couple if years that had apparently sold weeks previously, they were very casual about it also
  19. No more PUPs Mick just an active tone circuit, currently passive 👍
  20. This one came with a passive tone circuit but that’s still a helpful observation thanks 🙏
  21. Hi folks, I want to install a J-Retro into my Enfield. The bass has the 2xQuad PUPs as well as neck LEDs, both circuits powered from the battery in the rear cavity (photo below). While I doubt it's entirely beyond my electrical skills to wire the J-Retro to the existing battery, I'm wondering whether running three discrete circuits from the same battery is going to run it down very quickly and whether I should install the J-Retro as usual with it's own battery in the control cavity? The only downside of the latter is that the magnetic retaining system for the rear cavity in the photo above makes changing batteries tool free, quick and easy whereas changing the battery installed with the J-Retro is a PITA. Thoughts/advice most welcome 👍
  22. That is a rather elegant solution, well done. Reminded me of Drillium, when before the arrival of composite components in the late 80's, pro cyclists used to drill out various components to save weight, most frequently the cranks. And occasionally they failed catastrophically as the result, but apparently it's a fashion that has returned courtesy of the hipster/fixie community
  23. Even a heavy Mustang is still on the light side by comparison with most Fenders I'd have thought?
