Welcome @Wellsyboy, I'd recommend that you simply listen to the music you like and pay attention to the bass parts. The likes of Jaco, genius though he was, are not a great starting point for a study of bass, there's are some amazing bass parts hidden in some otherwise quite ordinary songs. Good luck 👍

So, metal polish ordered, next job is to identify which of the screws is rattling, which I suspect is going to go hand in hand with replacing the old, ugly and rusty flat-head screws with some nice, new and shiny cross head equivalents 👍

Yep, we hear with our eyes and our emotions more than we realise. I get it with strings a lot, swear I can hear a nasty overtone but in reality my brain’s focussing on and unconsciously amplifying a very small part of the overall sounds making me irritable and causing a viscous circle 👍

Or in strict legal terms it's a fender Jaco signature jazz that has NOT had the neck epoxied by Jaco's bass tech

I owned a mid-late 70's Jazz in black, and the original factory finish didn't have much to commend it either

Wish I looked that cool when I get cramp, got finger cramp at a gig just before Xmas (stupidly experimenting with short-scale) and apparently looked like I'd forgotten how to play
