  1. There appears to be a cultural assumption in the over 40's that if you're on stage you're fair game, the idea being "We're the customer". I don't think it's an over 40's thing, I think it's slowly dying out as that generation ages.
  2. Guts have mystique for a reason, I guess that mystique is starting to cost. Silver Slaps are fine strings, but they're not guts 👍
  3. Sorry mate, but let's face it, there'l be other similar threads along soon
  4. That’s interesting, will check this as it might explain it 🙏
  5. IIRC O/P was aiming to buy a new Yamaha P/J, remove the JPUP and the circuit in order for it to become a Precision. Not really sure why he took two fairly tame responses the way he did but that's his prerogative, frankly I've seen more hostile comments in threads about the mid-70s English Folk scene
  6. At the level of money we’re talking, and given the suggestion of Farrell’s ownership/control above, this reads as almost a case of corporate irresponsibility. Having said that I read there were only 12 dates with a load of dates already played, to go so tour receipts to date might offset cancellation costs. I hope so
  7. The type of insurer who underwrites a rock tour would be unlikely to fall for that, they’d have seen this potential and covered themselves very well. The only way out for the band would have been a swift show of solidarity following Friday but that ship sailed. Only people who get rich now are the lawyers 😕
  8. I always have the single leg facing away, it’s just habit now but originated from needing the mic stand and endpin to keep their distance from one another - less chance of me tipping a mic stand into the audience, but I guess more chance of them tipping one onto me. I’ve not looked at how other players do it, especially on small stages, probably should 🙂
  9. Suspect that this will cost them all a lot of cash, not just the cancellations and refunds of ticket fees (dread to think what the costs of stadium hire are these days, but have no doubt we’re looking at tens of millions over the tour, and I’m assuming the insurers will refuse to pay given the circumstances). Solicitors are going to be brought in by one or more of them to try and recoup losses from the others and that’s going to ramp the whole thing up even more. All because a bloke can’t hold his drink/manage his emotions on stage 😕
  10. So, I took of my Gamuts last week for an experiment that didn’t really work, and realised while putting them back on that they are pretty worn and might need to go into the spares bag. I checked out the set I have online and it comes in at over £700 all told, in part due to them being made to order, in part due to customs etc (none of the UK stockists have had any for several months). So I thought I’ll get some Lenzners from Thomann - not my fave guts but still pretty decent - but was gobsmacked to see that even they’re coming in at close to £500 now, the last time I bought a set they were £200 and it doesn’t seem all that long ago, at the time IIRC they were cheaper than some of the steel/hybrid strings, now a whole lot more expensive. Is there a global gut shortage or something, or is this just how it is now?
  11. Many thanks @cybertect, that links to a live version on mine! I’ve searched for any settings or permissions that might be awry but can’t see anything? It’s not the end of the world of course, but is a little annoying
  12. I’m being punished by the gods of Americana 🤔
  13. Suspect the live version is from Rock of Ages 👍
  14. Live first track on this … but studio version on this
  15. When I play first track - Great Divide - is live and also misses CC completely as with you, although why? Gonna delve a little deeper tonight 👍
  16. Been my experience that it doesn’t work so well with a double bass 👍
  17. Sad for them, I’ve got a lot of time for them, less for their ego mess of a singist
  18. Do you have a link to the correct version of the album? I can get the original by searching for the tracks by name individually (not within the album) and then selecting the version I want, but when I select the album I get some live and some studio and some not there at all
  19. ...and I think this is especially true when the version Apple provides is performed by different musicians to the original album
  20. A rope is a very good idea, as soon as someone crosses gig stops. I've twice had mics shoved into my face when an audience member has found their way into the what is pretty clearly the band's area and knocked into my mic stand - I'm playing DB do can't simply move out of the way as I would with an electric - the last time it was so painful it messed up the rest of the gig for me. Made me realises that this..... ...is actually very sound advice. If you don't have that option, at least make sure the people behind the bar are aware that the safety and security of the band is their issue while the band are performing, and specifically it's not up to the band to try and police the audience.
  21. I guess it varies with band/genre. I found it bloody annoying when I started having to listen very hard to Danko's basslines in both Dylan and The Band tracks to find that the versions Apple Music was giving me where not the same as the other guys were getting from Spotify and certainly not the versions that I remembered from the albums themselves. I've solved the issue in that I'm going to work from the CDs, but to my mind it doesn't change the fact that if Apple are charging people to download an 'album', they should allow you to download the actual album, and not what appears to amount to a pretty random collection of live versions/remixes albeit of the same songs. Perhaps part of this for me is that I'm of an era both in age and musical preference in which the idea of the album still remains the overarching driver of the music, a statement of the band's thoughts and emotions at the moment in time. The first track on the original album Blonde on Blonde really sets an odd tone, and I've always loved it for that. The version on Apple Music however is live and to my ear has a very different feel, almost as if by the time it was recorded, Dylan had come to hate the song, and I think it sets the album off in a very different direction. I wonder if people who find Dylan through digital might be taken on a very different journey to that he intended when he recorded the album?
  22. Wow, see what you mean, bass appears a lot more prominent?
  23. Ooh that’s promising 🙏
  24. Thanks Michael I’ll check out that link seems a lot if Dylan/Band albums are affected 👍
