  1. Mate, you've had a bad evening in the studio, nothing to do with the basses. Flea good, Jazz good, Precision good
  2. I auditioned for a band, git the gig, and almost within minutes of the first rehearsal the band leader/drummer started to moan about the fact I played a Ric, saying that he wanted me to play a Prevision. This made me more determined to play the Ric. The music was mostly late 70s/early 80s new wave, Clash, Buzzcocks, Stranglers, but there were also 90s indie tracks also, so either bass worked looks wise. Thing is it was a three piece and to my mind the Ric simply filled the space better than a Precision, but for him it was about the image. I pointed out to him that I wasn’t insisting he play a Ludwig kit, and he said he did t have to, it was his band! We argued about this and as a consequence about everything else. I did about five rehearsals and left before we did a gig
  3. Jay, I know where you live Must admit, I'm tempted because I can stick a nice fat Precision neck on this, and transform it into a real bass. I'll get my people to talk to your people. C
  4. Not sure, especially given he’s changed out the PUPs, how that Cowpoke will sound any different to any other PJ to be honest? But GAS is a cruel mistress
  5. Hey John, funny thing is I realised just after posting that the Badass III isn't going to work due to the staggered string alignment. So, I was about to PM you last night! Then, as if by magic, you posted, so I was going to order one from the link you kindly provided. And then as if by magic again, I received a PM from Greg/Shaggy saying he's got a spare of the exact same bridge hanging around which I can have. I love this place. Thanks all And re refin, I don't know why I worry about such things, it's a really silly thing to do, costs a lot of money, takes the bass away for a couple of months, and makes no difference to the quality of the bass at all (unless you believe the nitro/breath versus poly/restrict argument. Which I don't). So rest assured that it's staying as it is; I'm just going to enjoy playing it.
  6. WTF are we expected to do with our time now that the major drama of our lives is gone Andy. Can you fire your drummer perhaps?
  7. I'm warming to it already, and although it's probably in my head, it feels very easy to play Diamonds on this compared to my other FLs
  8. It's typical of the intelligent, almost prophetic synthesis of ideas that we're all here for
  9. And whilst Clarky's basking in the afterglow you can half-inch his rather lovely bass collection
  10. I now have it's sibling
  11. I agree to a point, but I'm amazed that the PR people in a multinational couldn't see the response coming. Perhaps they were in a wine bar* at the time *Wine bar. Previously a bank, selling over-priced Liebfraumilch, common in the 1980s and frequented by PR and media types allegedly
  12. Not my usual taste in basses, but once brought to my attention by Andy and John, I couldn't resist, especially given that it - or an instrument very very similar to it - was responsible for the bass parts on my fave album of all time, parts that I have been learning for about 10 years! What do I love? The nut is close to 45mm, the board is pretty much flat, the PUPs are light years apart, and it's bloody light. What do I not like? The colour Should be strung through, so a Badass III is going on at the weekend. The board is going to receive a damn good oiling at the same time. At some point in the future the finish may come off also. But in the meantime, I'm going to Graceland
  13. I find that quite interesting if true. Lots of people criticise Rickenbacker for defending their copyright, but it seems that Behringer go a few steps further and (racially) abuse and ridicule people who are critical of the way they do business. Always thought they were a stinky poo company anyway, and would never would buy anything they made, but now I feel morally righteous as well. Thanks Behringer.
  14. Probably why we gig so infrequently these days
  15. I get your point, but what they think they can get out of you and what the act is worth are technically the same thing I think?
