  1. ....by which I mean that 6-months in a rehearsal room perhaps equates to about 2-years of normal high-volume use for an amp owned by the average gigging bassist (more in my case I'd imagine)?
  2. I'd say that 15 units over 6-months use in a rehearsal studio without problem (if I understand correctly) is a pretty decent indicator of reliability given that previous reports re recent Ampeg units suggested they could go very quickly?
  3. Differences between fretted and fretless are greater with slap that other styles - frets have a hug effect on slap tone - but I'd argue it's less a case of 'doesn't work particularly well' and more a case of 'works very well when used appropriately', one example for me being Bakithi Kumalo on the Graceland album (I may be repeating myself here) 👍
  4. Re fretless playing, it's all horses for courses of course, but for me, I play fretless and fretted very similarly as opposed to seeing each as needing a specific style/technique/genre - I often use fretless at rehearsal and gigs playing ostensible 'standard' bass parts, and always enjoy when someone says "I didn't realise you were playing fretless" (our keys player being a great example, I'd been playing fretless every week for three months before he noticed), which to my mind is far more of a compliment than producing lots of slides and double stops etc and having people say "I love the sound of fretless bass".
  5. Ampeg is always a safe bet for definitive rock tones, the great thing about the V4B is that you can wind up the power tubes at decent stage volume in a small venue. Lovely amp
  6. Not on a fretless no ……..
  7. Smaller frets?
  8. Great decision 👏
  9. I say this with some trepidation (and yes I can hear all of the sniggering, calm down at the back please) I think this may be a keeper................ I put it together from parts left unsold after a recent bitsa sell-off. Late 70's Daion body, Warmoth full-fat Precision neck, with maple cap/slab. A big surprise is the Squier CV PUP and circuit, which frankly sounds as decent as any I've owned (I am going to test some alternatives at some stage just in case they sound even better). Currently rehearsing a Pixies show, this is doing the job rather nicely 👍
  10. Glad you said it Lawrie, what a horror 🤔
  11. You won't get either trust me
  12. It would give you an idea of overall percentage of bass players interested which I suspect could be quite useful unless you specifically don’t want to know? Non participating doesn’t help you much….
  13. Nicely done @Rich, must admit I hadn't considered slap as a get out of jail free strategy
  14. According to members of a couple of bands I know who've auditioned bassists, not as far from the truth as it should be .....
  15. I had an FL Thinline, it was a lovely thing 👍
  16. Use of such language might have scared potential buyers perhaps…. 😂
  17. Precision: check 62RI: check Fender: check MIJ: check Lightweight: check Dimarzios: check CREME Dimarzios: check Iconic looks: check Under £800: check Ultra-reliable seller: check I have no idea what has happened to Basschat 🤔
  18. Thanks Steve, could you offer it as an option as do Warmoth with their 'standard 4-bolt' screwholes on Precision necks?
  19. I'd be interested in an unlined fretless Precision neck also. What's the likely timescale and, minor as it sounds, will the heel be pre-drilled to accept neck screws (if not it would mean sending to a luthier to do which is something I'd need to factor in).
  20. I do my best mate 👍
