  1. I wouldn't ship an all-tube amp any more, and recently bought a £190 return ticket and spent 16 hours on trains to collect an SVT because of this. I've had too many dropped packages over the years. At the weight of an SVT, a drop is catastrophic, and as I found out, couriers will not cover damage to glass even if the damage is categorically their fault, and it's an expensive re-tube.
  2. New year, new gig, and a fortuitous opportunity to buy back the bass I custom ordered from Modulus in 2007, at the time because it was the more cred (compared to the sparkly finishes) of Flea's basses to my eye. It's great to have it back, didn't realise how much I;d missed having a Modulus around the place Walshy, thanks so much mate The bass..... And why I love this bass (apart from the fact that it's bloody awesome to play)....
  3. That was my emotional reaction when I first saw the bass
  4. Very very nice, to the point that having payed conventional Precisions for a VERY long time, I have to question the sweet spot orthodoxy (although there's really no agreed sweet spot for the back PUP anyway)
  5. Glorious, that is all, I've always felt that P/Js lack a little something, P/Ps are clearly where it's at. And wow, Fender Custom Shop build quality in every respect.
  6. Agreed Mick, I just bought a vintage Fernandes Precision and it is frankly outstanding, FCS standard In terms of build and playability alongside glorious tone and outstanding looks.
  7. And of course Lee is also a true gent in case the omission of that fact in my previous post rang any alarm bells!
  8. Yep, likewise, the neck alone is worth the asking price
  9. Absolutely, and SITSOM is essential viewing
  10. Wise words above, 100% keep the Flea Andy
  11. I’ve been torn between buying a vintage or decent contemporary Precision for a while, a Lakeland USA PJ popping up has swayed my thinking a little
  12. I’m having a serious think about the PJ
  13. Absolutely, I wasn’t suggesting the bass be EQ’d in isolation. EQ that works in one band could be entirely ineffective in another, and yes, thick gutsy driven guitar tone versus thin and clean will make a big difference. You can change EQ entirely mid set to accommodate different songs or instrumentation, but to the audience the bass will sound exactly the same (whilst if the EQ had been left the same, it would have sounded entirely different). The Keith Richards isolated bass line in Sympathy for the Devil is a great example of how EQ solo and EQ for the mix are two entirely different things.
  14. No such thing as ‘reality’ when it comes to sound/tone Andy, how you feel in the moment changes everything. But hey, I’ve a nice ‘68 Jazz (with a ‘90 fretted neck also) if you want to offload that Flea
  15. Not sure JPJ, Lee or Redding would agree! It's all about the elusive balance between overall band sound and bass tone, whether it's the result of strings/EQ/technique, you just need to find what works. Plenty of players have made Jazz Basses work/cut through just fine Although I think Precisions are generally better :)
  16. And even then not worth the asking price. At worst ....?
  17. Life's a journey mate! My current gear line up is looking increasingly as it did in 2008, despite many, many, changes in the interim
  18. IIRC there's a thread somewhere on TB which they discuss the isolated bass line to Sympathy for he Devil, and they can't agree whether it's a Precision or Jazz (this despite the evidence of KR playing a Precision in the film of the session). The line itself is well worth taking the time to listen to......
  19. Ah, I’d assumed the deal was on BC. It’s Probably not really an issue for this forum or the moderators to be honest Rikkers. I hope you get it resolved.
