  1. I can see how you get there, some of their studio stuff is pretty average. But some of their stuff is extraordinary, and live they were something else (never saw them, speaking about their live recordings). There is an extraordinary joy and passion for life in a lot of their songs, and especially in their performances of those songs live, despite that fact that at first impression, the songs themselves can appear quite MOTR.
  2. I'm with WoT, I've read several of the relevant books, and each comes at the same scenes with a different bias. Robertson had an agenda from the early days and was driven by a high level of ambition; Helm simply didn't share them, or at least not to the same degree (and you can see where he was coming from, post Hawkins he had to start playing second fiddle to Robertson, then third fiddle behind Robertson and Dylan, and this started a creeping resentment that never really went away). And whilst the truth is always going to be hard to come by, long-term use of hard drugs played a major role in the demise of the band as both a musical entity and a group of friends. Amazing documentary though, worth watching for the footage of Danko's playing style as much as anything else.
  3. It is, but introduces a little more empathy re Levon’s POV. Great footage, Danko’s presence and Manuel’s voice both notable. Real sense of the magic of a moment in time
  4. Loving it
  5. I do not like GB but if you do, why move away?
  6. Good stuff. As per the above, getting a high power tube head checked by a tech, ideally before buying it, is a good shout. Glad it worked out OK
  7. Likewise, email saying 'You are no longer allowed......." was quickly followed by emails offering me all sorts of benefits, zero selling fees etc, if I'd just take a few minutes to give them my bank details. eBay was such a great idea but has lost its way terribly and become just another cynical money machine. It's become a nightmare to use as a private seller, but I rarely use it even for buying these days as increasingly, at least in my experience, too many of the remaining private sellers there are either unable or unwilling to be honest about what they're selling. Despite the 'eBay always protects the buyer' mantra, it's creates a massive headaches to have to fight to get the type of refund that is automatic and immediate with, for example, Amazon.

  18. Very nice calm transaction with Bas, calmness especially appreciated when it transpired that the power supply for the MPC hadn't made it to him, and he was very patient while we sorted it. Great guy to deal with, I'm sure we'll do it again some day Chris
  19. And IIRC again, Marcus of this parish used to be in a Geordie version called the Reet Hot Chili Peppers
