  1. All joking aside (although truth be told, I wasn't joking), sounds like a great project Nik, hope to hear some of it. C
  2. Hi John These things happen, thanks for joining the thread, and glad to hear you're doing OK and still busy. Yes, I would love to have my P-Retro fixed; stupidly I sold my spare P-Retro a while back, then bought a used unit to replace that once mine failed, but sold that on another bass. Mad journey! I don't use my Precision in active mode all that often, but it's a great thing to have for those days when you find you need to! Can I post it to you, I assume you're still at the same address? I should add in case I gave the wrong impression above that it's not a manufacturing fault, I'm pretty sure it's the result of my having installed it in a different bass, it stopped working a few weeks after that (and I've always struggled with the paper connection between the two stacks). Very pleased to hear that the unit is going to resurface, as I've said in several threads here and elsewhere - as have many other players - it's a perfect and elegant solution, very in keeping with the Precision ethos, simple (in function that is, I'm aware the engineering is slightly more complex) but perfect. Cheers Chris
  3. You’ll be needing a bi-amp rig then
  4. All joking aside, if I still had my C64, it would be on its way to you right now
  5. Well it worked for Bruce Foxton Nik......
  6. Nik Assuming you want 'that' Ric tone Get a Precision (although it can be done on a Jazz but Precisions as ever are just better) Take the action down. Doesn't matter how low it is now, take it lower Give yourself a bit of scoop on your (all-tube) amp, although a Mesa Titan will do the job Hit the new, but not too new, round-wound strings hard with a pic And this is the really critical bit........................ .........close your eyes and imagine you're playing a Ric (it will not, repeat will not, work unless you do this)
  7. Yep, I assumed bubblewrap, clingfilm is pushing it frankly
  8. What a bloody lovely car by the way
  9. I had a a package delivered a while back and the driver said it had been repacked at the depot. He said they’d normally charge the seller, not sure if that happened. Frankly I think it’s pretty decent of them as long as it’s not abused. I get Stew’s point though
  10. OK, I can see how it works, does it not make setting the correct relief potentially problematic?
  11. So are you actually saying that the pocket is fine but the heel is too thick? If so, agreed, sanding at the heel is OK.
  12. I'm also completely at a loss as to how shimming the far end of the pocket could possible help this, it can solve some problems, but not this one unless I'm missing something?
  13. Don’t sand the neck, that’s the last thing to do!
  14. Absolutely, raise the bridge is the first option, or even simply shim the saddles with thin sheet metal as I’ve done before (or even buy a higher bridge), if that is for any reason problematic then consider other options.
  15. I have to agree, but it is so much better when listened to than when read, Zevon has the knack of making it sound like it was really happening to him at the time he recorded it
  16. I think that's fighting talk on two levels First, Zevon is a lyrical genius Second, Right Said Fred are... OK, that's fighting talk on one level
  17. An embarrassment of riches, literally
  18. Exactly. Who are they?
  19. Send lawyers, guns and money, the stinky poo's about to hit the fan
  20. Mate, the bigger stuff by Mesa, Ampeg etc can be bought so cheap now it's almost rude not to get involved
  21. Ha ha, fair point mate, I was tongue in cheek
  22. I wouldn't let it get to you, you'll get the guitar refinished to match, then prefer that version of LPB slightly to that of the bass, then get the bass refinished to match. Then sell them both because you fancy a change to Burgundy Mist.....
  23. Left bass is not LPB on my screen for sure
  24. So, back on topic (could a moderator speak to this Dad bloke who keeps taking it off?), just listened to the whole Warren Zevon Excitable Boy album and loved it, definitely an album that you have to listen to as an album, one that the whole is so much greater than the sum of its parts, but well worth a listen. Very distinctive late 70's West Coat feel if you like that sort of thing (as opposed to mid 70's West Coast feel; the shift is to my mind a bit like the shift from mid 60's to late 60's Motown)
