  1. Your original post didn't suggest any of the above, it simply came across as the usual fosters take, which is why I objected. If you've got something to say, then simply say it, which also gives the person in question the opportunity to respond. And anyway, my main issue was with the 'care in the community' comment, which wasn't yours
  2. Yep, that was my original thinking but have checked it both ways and still the same. Might be an earth issue somewhere perhaps?
  3. I'm pretty sure that in a previous thread it was mentioned that, as the gentleman in question is a Basschat member, any comments on his listings could go via PM. Not sure the final line in the above post is appropriate either way
  4. Hi Pablo I installed a Fender humbucker at the neck of what was orginally a P/J. Solo'd it sounds great, it has more grunt that the original J-PUP and is far more usable in that respect. I wouldn;t say I can get a Stingray tone, but what I do get is closer to that than a Jazz. However, unlike that J-PUP, I cannot blend the humbucker and split-coil (Precision) PUP in any usable way, as soon as both are engaged at any decent volume (i.e., past about 6/10 on the volume pots) there is a complete loss of bass and I'm left with a bass tone reminiscent of the gear I was playing in the early 80's! I assume that this is a wiring issue that I need to investigate (the wiring is sound with all leads going to the right places, I'm guessing I might need to reverse polarity on one of the PUPs), but I didn't have this problem with J-PUPs.
  5. My fave, although perhaps a 'you had to be there' moment, was a pub gig at which our singer/guitarist was having all sorts of tuning issues, mostly because he's not only crap at tuning but also because he'd decided to mess about with the intonation on his guitar, and after he's spent about 2 minutes between each song trying to sort it - and with immaculate timing in a rare moment of silence - a bloke shouted "want me to tune it for you mate?". Like I said, probably had to be there but always brings a smile to my face
  6. I’ve been hoping a Mesa Walkabout head would come along for a while now, I’m a bit OCD and like to take a spare small amp along to gigs for the inevitable big tube amp fail (so inevitable that it’s yet to happen, but it will of course the day I don’t take a spare). I’m guessing this is more in the DB750 space time wise than the Walkabout, but find myself rather drawn ,
  7. I can provide ashtrays and pickguard with this bass (as in the photos) for an extra £40 but no longer have the PUP that was in it I'm afraid Cheers Chris
  8. Why not, and they wouldn't be the first band guilty of that anyway
  9. You know what these do Little bit of rack rash but otherwise in very good condition, spend most of its life relatively unused in my studio.
  10. EDIT: loaded body only for sale (neck gone) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another step in my current gear restructure. This is a rather nice hardtail Strat with a late 70's Fender body, lightly reliced, and a new Fender Mex neck with a lovely big 70's headstock (I tried to source an original '70s maple board neck but nearly every one I played was in such poor shape that I opted for a newbie, and frankly the new Mex stuff is hard to tell apart from the US made gear, hence opting for Mex). Body and neck are both very nice, you may want to cut the nut slightly lower than is currently the case, doesn't bother me but it's as it came out of the factory at present which is normally quite high for most players. PUPs, circuit and pickguard are Seymour Duncan Everything Axe https://www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/everything-axe-pickguard which retails at £320 https://www.gak.co.uk/en/seymour-duncan-everything-axe-guard/126372. Tuners are Fender US. Like the other Strat I'm selling here, this guitar owes me over £1000!
  11. Another step in my current gear restructure. This is a rather nice Strat if you like that lived in/well played/hung out with the Stones look. Neck and body are both original Fender '79, bought from Fender Factors a couple of years back. The body is very very nicely beaten up, please see photos. This is not a case of 'there's a small dink in the upper bout'. The neck is in very good condition, lovely dark rosewood board and, of course, the large headstock Neck and body are the only original vintage Fender parts. PUPs and circuit are from Joseph Kaye https://www.josephkayeguitars.com/about/ who, among others, makes PUPs for Wilco Johnson. Tuners are a nice set of Klusons bought new from WD (I think) last year. Pickguard is a lovely aged 3-ply Tort I picked up from the USA which still has the film in place. Guitar owes me over £1000, £800 is a decent price for this rather lovely old thing.
  12. Having said that, here's mine. Rics, more than any other bass, are less in the instrument than in the player, the band and the amplification. Discuss........
  13. But what did you expect, a useful & useable answer to the question
  14. Indeed, there is no point applying logic, evidence or argument to this discussion, they're useless weapons in the face of Rickenbackers. You either do or you don't get them. End of
  15. Funny you should say that. On the basis of a large number of orbiting objects, it appeared to have developed its own gravitational field when the guy finally delivered it but it transpired that the planets in question were actually large flies.
  16. Bloody hell, are we on "Rics are crap"/"no they're not"/"it was a Jazz/Wal/Precision anyway" again?
  17. Oh come on, never ever underestimate a courier. Parcel Monkey lost a Mesa 1516EV of mine a few years ago. Anyone who has ever seen or lifted one of these will recognise the challenge even the most inept of couriers would face in actually losing one; it's not unlike losing a mountain or similar large geographical feature (not least because it takes about four people to get it in and out of a van). But they still lost it. Anyway, long story short, it turned up in the back of a courier van in Suffolk. I suspect the driver didn't even notice it was there, it was such a big package that it became a form of horizon, probably requiring a county as flat as Suffolk to render it visible to the human eye. And I cannot begin to describe the dust and 'stuff' that was on it and in it when it arrived, I was given the strong sense that the van had been moving farm animals and manure as well as expensive Californian music equipment. But I got it back. There's still hope Dood
  18. You can get some half-decent unfinished bodies on eBay that would do the job, not often that a pure 'ray shape pops up (might be risky in copyright terms for the builder0, but quite a few that are pretty close are out there? As above, stripping yours and using veneer might work, as might respraying it a less 'challenging' colour (SUBs seemed to come in a rather odd range of colours IIRC).
  19. And with apologies to the members in the long queue, this rather lovely thing is off to a new home
  20. Thanks for the above guys, much appreciated. Yes, whilst I've always seen eBay as fair game, I still feel that what makes this place special is that even when profits are being made, there's some proportionality to it, and this is assured by mods when they can and by the occasional less than well discussed comment in FS threads (of which a couple of members are masters). And it generally works. In contrast, I sold a bass on eBay a while back (not the sort you can sell here if you get my meaning) and the buyer had listed it at a 180% markup on eBay using my photos within minutes and before he'd even paid. I then withdrew it and refunded him, not only because I was a bit miffed but also because he kept insisting on sending a courier rather than collecting it in person or letting me send to him, and then I had weeks of grief from him, eBay and Paypal about the alleged £50 courier fee he'd paid, despite my telling him I wasn't going to allow him to do so. It's nice to feel good about buying and selling, and it mostly does here, whilst every time I sell anything on eBay I'm nervous for around 45 days until the complaint (or fraudulent 'item not as described' claim) date has passed
  21. Hey mate, I don't (although I'll have a look on my old laptop), but as per the post above, it really wasn't attractive wood. I used stain and Warwick wax after stripping, and whilst it looked a little odd, it at least looked better than the extremely bland grain that sat underneath it. IIRC the wood was also pretty soft, and once I got through the lacquer it was really easy to find that even gentle sanding took too much of the wood off. I think that the lacquer is so heavy with SUBs that removing it (body and neck) might noticeably affect tone. Just my opinion
