  1. The sound of a Ric is all in the eyes Well, some of it is. I love Rics, but got one hell of a wake-up call when I realised that the Ric sound in my head could be got by using the same strings, and importantly the same playing style, with a Jazz,, albeit a Jazz with a chunky Precision neck. Heavy flats, pick, both PUPs on, tone rolled back a bit. Didn't feel like a Ric, which part of it for the player, but sounded like one. But well done, great idea, and great first post. Love to hear how it works out.
  2. Hello mate, it's 1995 Fender USA Precision B-width neck, with a lovely dark, lined, rosewood board. No idea regarding the body I'm afraid, but it's a decent piece of wood and very well aged
  3. Yes, bridges can make a massive difference, and importantly, there's not an obvious cost/benefit ratio, which is why I'm about to sell three Badass II bridges. These days I'm preferring fewer overtones and less sustain, and there's not much point paying £100 for a bridge if you have to stick a 20p piece of foam in front of it to get the tone you want
  4. Wise. Amp gets too heavy? Get a gym membership or a roadie. There's a reason why nearly all the classic amps are heavy. I curse the weight of my SVT every time I have to lift it, but that's all forgotten when I plug in, and even my lightweight heads are still pretty big and heavy (e.g., Mesa Venture)
  5. Hi Johnny, it'll depend on the width of the neck, I'd say 3-5mms if a standard Fender. Cheers Chris
  6. When the singer says "mate, can you do something about your tone?", you simply hit the "vocal enhance" switch (DFA1) and say "How's that?". S/he will love it. On the other hand when a guitarist say's you're too loud and s/he can't hear the nuances of their '57PUPs, you hit the "guitar enhance" switch (DFA2). S/he will also love it. I have a few such circuits in stock if anyone would like to buy one, they're lightweight and require no expertise to install, but don't come cheap.
  7. Great basses, good call. The two switches are DFA1 and DFA2. Sound guys use them, albeit mostly with guitarists and singers, it's unusual for them to be required by bassists
  8. Hi Jim, certainly looks like nitro and is on the light side (we don't seem to have scales here any more). Not sure if either answer is much help to be honesy, but if you buy it and don't like it, you can send it back mate Cheers Chris
  9. I've amassed a rather large collection of parts that I've built in and out of various basses over the years, some I've sold, some I've given away to various causes, some I've kept, but I find myself with far too many bits and far too little cash right now so am getting rid of a lot of necks, bodies and hardware. This has been hanging around a while, neck is Fender dimensions albeit a little deeper, will need a shim for standard Fender neck. Screw holes also not standard Fender. Lovely aged grain with some nice flaming here and there. This is a set of hardware for Jazz, good quality bridge (Gotoh) and tuners (Schaler), no idea about the rest, but you're getting bridge, tuners, ferrules, control plate, knobs, neck-plate/screws. £60 posted

This is a Kent Armstrong Precision PUP bought on here a few months back but not out of its box since, and plastic cover still on PUPs. £45 posted

These need no introduction, a lovely balanced pair of P/J PUPs. Little use, no issues. £100 posted.
  13. Well Jack, might I suggest to you that you suggest to them that they man up a little. Like many disco classics, it can be injected with a funk/blues/rock vibe - think Miss You by the Stones, only a little more up-tempo. In fact, we used to go straight from Miss You into Funkytown and occasionally back again (and not always deliberately if the singer had warmed up at the bar) .

This is what it is, a laminate Precision body covered in dinks (although not really relic dinks if you get my meaning). Standard Fender fit. Comes with the highly desirable 'Mad In Korea' sticker just behind the bridge (you can have that separately for £20).

I bough this a year or so ago, could be alovely bass but some clown (not me) decided to install new PUPs the wrong way around and appears to have adopted a somewhat agricultural approach to the woodwork. Neck however is lovely. You will get body, neck, tuners, pickguard and circuit, bridge and bridge cover (not pictured as they're in my studio at present). There are no PUPs with this, and if you want to install some normal Jazz PUPs, you will need to do a little woodwork £70 posted

This has been hanging around a while, I bought it because I love the thin veneer between front and back, something that was found on a lot of the early 70's Yamaha Precisions. Neck is not standard Fender dimensions (it has a more square profile). Screw holes also not standard Fender. Lovely tan lines however £35 posted
