1.
You've thrown down the gauntlet there!
Ha ha, well it's now sold and will be going into the back of the big red courier van very shortly. Time will tell
 2. I LOVE that bass, my old Gherson was an awesome bass (Rick copy), and something about this reminds me of that. £125? Sale of the f*****g century
 3.
can you run a guitar through this as well as a bass
Yes, and although I've not done it, you can do both at the same time using entirely independent patches on each. It's got two independent channels with a mic and instrument input on each. I bought it because I thought I would use all the functionality but as I use it exclusively in the studio, I've got multi-channel functionality anyway. I also thought that running two mics (on acoustic guitar) into this and running hardware FX before going into the desk and using plug-ins might save some processing power but I've got too many units and I realised I'm starting to complicate what was supposed to be a very simple studio set up again (bloody eBay/Basschat)! I imagine that live it would have pretty much every base/bass covered to be honest. Chris
 4. Shameless plug but this is a good unit for bass/guitar/vox, two channels can also be run simultaneously http://basschat.co.uk/topic/312041-fs-line-6-pod-x3-pro-fxmodel-for-bassguitarvox/ Chris
 5. Great piece of kit both live and in the studio (Sound on Sound review here https://www.soundons...ne-6-pod-x3-pro). This comes in a Gator 4u rack case with stage light. Recent ebay purchase but have too many pres/FX units and don;t have space for another rack unit! Original eBay listing at http://www.ebay.co.u...vip=true&rt=nc. Works exactly as it should and is in very good condition. Gator rack case means that even Parcelforce won;t be able to break it
 6. Photobucket's demise has ruined bass browsing for me! Jack, I'm sure would work something out excuse wise....
 7.
Depends how serious you are. If you really want an old-school sound which sounds great at rehearsal volumes, can handle small gigs, and is more-or-less transportable then get yourself an early 70s WEM Dominator 25 - the one with the 15" Celestion. Superb open-backed sound, 15W of valve power, looks cool as f***. They turn up quite frequently on eBay. Don't pay more than £400.
Yep, I sold mine here recently and whilst it didn't have the mojo of a B-15 it did a pretty fine impersonation; a f*****g glorious sounding amp that punched well above its weight in every respect. One of the best tones I've ever managed to produce was a late 70's Yamaha BB1200 through the WEM, total cost less than £800, tone indistinguishable from a pre-CBS Precision through a '64 B-15.
 8. The big daddy of all pre-amps! Lovely piece of kit, in fact potentially the best at what it does, but I've opted for Jack's Demeter VTBP-201 this week simply (and superficially) because I can rack mount it. I had two of these and this has seen virtually no use and will be sent in its original box/packaging. Details here http://www.adesignsa...tube-direct-box I seem to have used all my storage space for photos (why did Photobucket mess it up for us all) so will have to clear some space before I post pics. However be assured it's in 100% absolutely perfect condition. Chris
 9. I've been buying and selling here for 15 years and 99% of the time folks are 100% reliable, but I would not do a trade deal overseas, far easier for one of you to sell their respective instrument and buy the other's
 10. I met Paul McCartney about 30 years ago and didn't recognise him. Only realised it was the man himself after a mate pointed out how cool/disinterested I'd been in the presence of music royalty. In hindsight it seems really quite odd because he's an extraordinarily recognisable person (although I was most certainly not a fan of either the man or his music at the time, something that has changed significantly since, certainly in relation to his bass playing, musicality and songwriting). Having said this, he appeared not to recognise me either, so the disinterest was mutual
 11. What a great bass. It took me about 15 years of trial and error with basses to realise the benefits of a Jazz Bass with a Precision neck, in short. My current Jazz - which weighs in at about 13lbs - has an Indian Rosewood body and a fat and wide Precision cocobolo/ebony neck, and it sounds huge irrespective of which PUPs are in there. Some people say that neck dimensions make no difference to tone
 12.
Wow! Worth buying if only for investment purposes.. I am skint however.
Indeed, and having just bought Jack's Demeter tube pre I am now also skint so would quite like this to sell. I'll let it go for £400 without the tuners. Cheers Chris
 13. Interested, anyone know how this unit compares with the REDDI, I've the latter but although the tone is glorious, it bugs the hell out of me that I can't rack mount it?
 14.
Another solution might be for you to think about a more solid, chunky bridge than the standard Squier / Fender BBOT.... A chunkier bridge, on a thicker plate, with sufficient height adjustment may do the job? Has anyone else found a suitable bridge?
Job done
 15.
Agreed to buy bass off seller - made arrangements for collection at a service station- drove 50 minutes to pick it up got there and had received text to say he'd sold it on ebay, Texted and called and got no response so drove home. What a complete waste of a night. I didn't bid on ebay thinking I'd save him having to pay fees. A valuable lesson learnt,
That's what the feedback forum is for mate, hit him hard
 16.
And there are no trails left to blaze..? No impact to be had, culturally..? The legends of the 1920's are gone, those of the '50s sprang up. My (our...) generation is passing (we're all just passing through...); the next legends are only just born. Give 'em a chance and they'll 'originate' as did the others, as do all legends, in their time, in their own time. Every generation mourns the loss of their own, but each generation has their own legends, I'm sure, otherwise, there'd be no shoulders to stand on, would there..?
+1
 17. Very rare first year of production (I believe) Fender Precision neck with factory fretless maple board. The letters 03 71 B are evident on the heel stamp but are very faint. Only other identification on the heel is the pencil squiggle apparent in a couple of the photos. The board is in very good condition with little sign of play wear; what's there is suggestive of either very light play with roundwounds, and/or almost exclusive play with flats. The board is true with no significant dead spots. There is some sign of wear to the underside of the treble side of the back of the neck where the playing hand makes most contact, but even this is minimal. The neck is equipped with a new set of Gotoh FB30 nickel tuners. Bought from Maut on here about 18 months back (original listing here http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry3056087 ), I've had it on an old 70's P/J but am having a bit of a clearout at present and this simply doesn't get played as often as my other two fretless basses. Please note that what look like string friction marks in the photo of the headstock/nut are is actually the grain, there is very little sign of play-wear anywhere on the neck. Cheers Chris
 18. All sold, '71 neck/tuners only now for sale at £450, new listing at http://basschat.co.u...ck-maple-board/
 19.
Thanks for that Chris, a bit heavier than I'd like so I shall pass. Cheers Gareth
Thanks Gareth, no worries. Chris
 20.
Seriously tempting
Ha ha, you might need to be quick mate, it's now on eBay also
 21.
That's a lame excuse...
The two excuses in question
 22.
If it works as you want, there is absolutely no reason to update any computer software. If the applications you are using don't run under the next version of the operating system then DON'T UPDATE IT. I still run Logic 9 under El Capitan. Both do everything In need, and therefore I see no reason to muck about with updates to either.
This. I still run Pro Tools 8 on Snow Leopard, and neither goes anywhere near the internet, and I still have this forum to thank for that extremely useful piece of advice when I was setting up the studio in 2010. All the hardware works just fine, and I like it that way (specifically my Mackie 1640i desk). I simply don't use any equipment that would require updating my software. OK, I guess one day something's going to go wrong with either the computer or the desk, but frankly I find navigating the constant issues around compatibility, bugs etc with software in other areas of my life to be sufficiently tiresome to ensure that I prefer the risk of major hardware failure than the almost daily hassle of software issues (when I bought the gear in question I was on the phone constantly to Avid in an attempt to iron out issues between the three core components, the desk, Pro Tools, and the iMac. Even given I had bought all three on the basis of 'compatibility', it took almost two weeks to get them to talk to each other, a process that involved my deleting various files, loading (and on several occasions subsequently deleting) custom versions of the software etc. But back to the OP's observation, Apple are no different to any other business, and perhaps far more customer-centred than many. They are always being bashed for the simple reason that they are a massive and successful business, but one that has to update its products at a frantic pace to keep pace. Perhaps it's a sign of my age, but I've always been an Apple fan, simply because of what they were trying to do in the 80's and 90's. Today they are in a different market - one which to an extent they themselves created and defined - and so are a different proposition I'll admit. They're a little like Nike, innovating thinkers and engineers for a niche market of passionate devotees in the 1970's turned mass-market fashion leader 20 years later. Both companies changed the world to an extent, but both face huge problems of their own design.
