1.
Whereabouts are you Mr B ?
Hello mate, I'm in Canterbury Cheers Chris
 2. Weight is 9lbs 8oz on a pretty decent set of scales. Turns out that the strat in question is 3lbs heavier!!!!
 3.
Chris the bass arrived with a full complement of screws. I just saw fit to change them, new pick guard new screws sort of thing. I am very happy.
Excellent news Kev
 4. Thank you gentlemen, it is indeed a lovely geetar at a rather competitive price. If I didn't have two other Strats......
 5. And yes, that bass does not need a J-PUP
 6. Hi Kev Really glad it got to you in one piece and on time (it's a sad reflection of the courier industry that constant hope and eternal gratitude are required of customers!). Now, the pickguard screws! I took off the pickguard yesterday to check the solder joints - not pretty, but functional - before I sent, and about 20 minutes after it was picked up I had that worrying "sh*t, did I put the screws back in" moment! If I didn't, please accept my sincere apologies and I'll get a set to you ASAP. If I did, just another sign of old age creeping in I guess! Enjoy the bass, it's the type of Precision I used to love, loud, bright, zingy and responsive. I've become more docile over time and now have an old '62 RI with very heavy flats and a rather muted, if not rather toneful, output Pleasure doing business with you mate Chris
 7.
How heavy is the PJ Chris?
Hello mate, it's not heavy for sure, it's the lightest bass I have here and is actually far lighter than my 70's Strat! I don't have scales here however; I'll see if my neighbours have any and get back to you. Chris
 8. For sale is a lovely Strat built from good quality components. It has a Warmoth (USA) birdseye maple neck (with a lovely large headstock) and a set of Sonic Monkey pickups, handmade by Joseph Kaye at The London Guitar Workshop/Joseph Kaye Guitars (and as used by Wilko among others). I don't know the history or the wood of the body (although it is solid wood), there are some squiggles and numbers in the neck pocket but nothing that I think means anything. Either way, it’s light and resonant. There are a couple of dinks in the finish and a split near the neck pocket (although this also is only in the finish). The pots are CTS, the switch is a CRL, the wiring is cloth covered with an orange drop capacitor installed. The bridge and neckplate are Fender. Tuners are Kluson. There is an age appropriate logo on the headstock. It’s a decent guitar which I’m selling at a bloody decent price; the neck alone, which is a thing of beauty, is more than the asking price.
 9. On reflection I think I'd be happy to sell the neck/tuners and the loaded body separately, I think £250 for the body, PUPs, circuit, pickguard and bridge, and £400 for the neck tuners is reasonable Cheers Chris
 10.
It may work; it may become a prison sentence. Customs bods are not daft.
That's the bottom line here. I had a lengthy chat with a Denmark St dealer about customs and it was an eye opener. He described how it cost him a fortune and hit his bottom line badly, but that there was no way he'd try to blag it. And he didn't strike me as the delicate type...... Either way, 23% saving on a 7-year old instrument plus risk of approx 30% duties/taxes, and the possibility that if you try to blag it things could get messy (bass impounded and a prosecution). As our US friends say "You do the math...." And imagine if you then had to return it because it isn't what you expected
 11. Maple fretless is now on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182728051138?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649, so if you want it, please be quick. Let's face it, these basses don't come up very often, especially at this price Chris
 12.
Thanks SICbass - I found some more pics here https://www.talkbass...ge-rig.1120617/ It seem to be a fairly old story.
Bloody hell, those guys at TB take things seriously
 13.
I'm fine thanks Chris! Sounds like you're putting together a pretty cool studio btw... Nik
Thanks Nik, yes it's starting to take shape, it's as much for the kids as for me, at least that's what i keep telling them
That maple board fretless is just super fine..... Anyone who knows their bitsas knows that Chris's are as good as they get, and these are stonkingly cheap for the quality of parts Bump, and all the best mate
Thanks Greg, it's a rather nice bass, I just don't use the J-PUP and as you know, have another fretless precision, so I'm trying hard to be sensible. Emphasis on 'trying'
Couple of cracking basses there. Great quality parts and Chris certainly knows how to put a decent bass together. I'm a little bit tempted by the '57 P bass, as I've heard really good things about those necks. Must resist
Thanks Mark, it's a very nice neck indeed, some necks just work and this is one of them
May I buy the 57ish P? Was looking to buy a used MIM P on Ebay for a similar price.. Will send PM..
Replied
 14.
Thanks for your thoughts there Beedster Yes, I recall seeing a few early Ibanez PJ's. Just wondering whether Norman Watt-Roy's PJ was like that when he bought it in the early 70's, Or whether he added the J pickup, as he liked the tones on his other bass - that distinctive Gold Jazz I always thought he'd used the Jazz on the Blockheads records, but he says that he mostly used the PJ
I'd imagine NWR's P/J was simply a modded Presision unless it's a very rare Fender indeed
 15. Lots of folks who played the 70's Telebass added J-PUPs out of necessity. It was around the time that active onboard electronics and better bass amplification were emerging, and bass players were becoming more creative, but neither of these could do much about the mudbucker on the Telebass Whilst I remember some awful DIY mods at the time, quite a few luthiers routinely did the J-PUP mod on various basses, some fresh from the factory, so many of the early example appear to be factory but in fact aren't. Earliest P/Js I remember were Ibanez and Yamaha. Fender only caught up a while later.
 16.
I need another amp like I need another hole in my bum, but I'm going for it anyway Phil
Pretty much the story of all of our lives there Keith
 17. Thanks Nik, all good mate, hope the same's true for you. Yep, decent couple of basses for sure, and I won't be gutted if they don't sell, just a little less stressed about the recent outlay on a Roland TD-30K if they do
 18. I bought this about four months ago from my old trading partner and rather splendid bass player Jay Synchro, and didn't get around to collecting it until a month or so ago. I've got a new studio project coming up and have just put some cash into some gear. It sold here a few weeks ago but to an overseas buyer and it got a little complicated so I'm selling it once again. You know the deal with these; phenomenal amps, even more so given their size and weight; makes me sound a half decent bassist! Put one of these inside a much bigger cab and you'd be easily fooled into thinking you're hearing the bigger cab! I'll post pics this evening (need to collect it from the studio). No trades of offers, thanks Apparently the BC photo uploader turns all photos around by 90 degrees, unless you edit them at source in which case it doesn't.....? From the front From the back Small enough to hide behind a Precision..... Chris
 19. OK, last of the studio gear arrived this week in the form of a Roland electronic kit, so I need to let a few instruments and amps go to keep things on an even keel so to speak. These two are the basses I use least, and going forwards are also those that are least likely to be used in the studio also. Both are bitsas but built from high quality parts, in fact if I broke both for parts they'd earn me around £500 more than the total [price for both basses. But frankly, I can't be bothered with the hassle of selling the bits one by one..... First up, maple board fretless P/J. £600 Body: Phil Kubicki late 70's. Lovely worn natural finish. Bridge PUP very much in 70's position Neck: 1971 Fender, classic profile of the era. Very very good condition, no signs of play-wear on the board suggesting either extremely light playing/flats or a refin, but if the latter, it's been very well done. Slight signs of wear on the back and side, but very little in real terms. PUPs: Nordstrand NP4 V Precision/NJ4SV Jazz Circuit: Kiogon VT stacked Tuners: Gotoh FB30 Bridge: generic BBOT Why am I selling this one? I have three fretless Fenders, a P/HB with flats, and a Jazz with rounds (and both with big Precision necks). This is the one I play the least. Simple as that. However, I kid you not, this is a very nice bass and at the price, is a steal (it cost around £850 to put together). [s]Second up, a rather nice '57-ish Precision.[/s] £400 **SOLD** [s]Body: Not sure. bought on here a while back here http://basschat.co.u...1#entry3124531. Colour is Champagne Gold, very hard to photograph but very very fetching in the flesh Neck: 2000 Fender MIA '57 RI replacement. Very very nice neck, wide and flat. Pretty much unused (bought NOS last year from £275) PUPs: Bill Lawrence P-46 Circuit: Generic (might be Fender, might not) Tuners: Fender American Vintage nickel (still wearing plastic protectors) Bridge: generic BBOT Why am I selling this one? It's just a little too bright for me, there's a lot of zing and top, and I don't generally use tone controls. I've two other Precisions, and once again, it's the one I play the least.[/s] Courier will be around £30. No hard cases with these but they will be very well packed. Sale only on both, I don't need any more gear. No offers please, the prices are more than fair. These are priced to sell and will both head to eBay at around £150 more per bass at the weekend if they don't sell here before then. Chris
 20. Had the pleasure of seeing and hearing the 2000 in action a few weeks back and it's lovely in both respects to, helped somewhat by Jay's magic fingers! Jay, if you fancy a AER Bass 1 for it , let me know
 21. I've wanted one of those from the moment they were announced. Anyone got a couple of grand they can lend me?
