  1. Compressors e.g., DBX 160. Just buy a decent tube amp Costly DI e.g., REDDI. Just buy a decent tube amp Class-D tube-emulating heads e.g., WD-800. Just.......... Nothing wrong with any of the gear, in fact each of the above were bloody lovely, but I defo bought them with a sense of 'I need to get this" rather than "I actually need this". Although tongue in cheek, the 'Just buy a decent tube amp' thing is not so far from the truth as since switching to tube amps only I never feel the need for any of them πŸ‘
  2. Thanks mate, my feeling also, I have some options on space luckily πŸ™
  3. Thanks @Joe Nation, cavity will take it more a question of the plate I suspect, I've messaged John which is probably the best bet πŸ‘
  4. Lovely thing πŸ‘Œ
  5. Absolutely, thanks once again to @Steve Browning and @obbm, I use the box pretty much every rehearsal, perfectly engineered, built like a tank, and to paraphrase Anchorman, works 100% of the time 100% of the time πŸ™
  6. Anyone know if the Uni-Pre 4-knob can be configured with the four pots in a line (as in Jazz Bass Deluxe), looking at it in detail I'm not sure it will?
  7. Need it gone, Β£450 without flight case (much cheaper to post as well)…..?
  8. Ah, ferrules, tuners, holes, and the great mystery of just how f***ing difficult it can be to get all three to match. Best of luck πŸ˜‚
  9. That neck..............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Defies logic doesn't it πŸ€”
  11. Exactly this, but perhaps s/he knows from experience that some people simply can't be told, largely because........ For a lot of musicians it's simply habit learned and reinforced over many years, initially driven by either ego or poor understanding of audio. But usually ego. There's a reason people choose to be a lead guitarist, especially in certain genres, and it's not to contribute to an overall well-balanced sound
  12. Good call, far too many guitarists - many with damaged hearing making things worse - are either in search of a Townsend-esque visceral high, or because they don't understand audio/acoustic, ramp up their levels to compensate for poor EQ/positioning. I got in the firing line of an Tele through an AC-30 recently, my ears were ringing for around 4-hours!
  13. I think I'm going the Uni-Pre 4 direction, in part because I love John's preamps but suspect the J-Retro might not be the best option here, and in part because I love the tone in that clip @Stofferson πŸ‘
  14. I suspect the whole forum wants nothing more than a vid of you playing it Jack .............. πŸ‘
  15. Very interested, do you have any pics of it built up and are you able to courier or it it collection only? Assume electrics are all fine? Chris
  16. Launderette? Hand wash clothes? Don't wash clothes? Priorities @fretmeister, priorities πŸ‘
  17. Really enjoyed that @Stofferson, and yes great bass tone (and playing) πŸ™
  18. This stuff happens. I'd get it sorted myself, no point having a broken bass sitting around, and you'll find a lot of suggestions as to what PUPs you might upgrade to either elsewhere in this forum or as this thread develops. Frankly, if you've emailed the store four times and had no reply simply name them here, it might encourage them to do the right thing. Of course they may have gone bust or there might be another legit reason for non-response but I still think it's worth you posting. I wouldn't bother with a small claims action, more trouble than it's worth, life's too short.
  19. Always be careful of your following, the amount of times I've realised at a gig that a band I've recently joined have a dodgy follower (singer's wife) or following (singer's entire family)........
