  1. No way, a major part of what gets a gig is the subconscious decision making of the band and the auditionee's sense of self/authenticity feeds into that significantly. IMO the only thing worse that someone not trying hard enough to get a gig is someone trying too hard 👍
  2. They stated the loss was over $100 per instrument at the time 👍 But before you feel sorry for them, I suspect they're clawing it back with all the numerous Joe Dart sigs
  3. Totally agree, I picked up a five-string SUB for stupid money on eBay in 2004/5 I suspect because a) no-one in the UK knew what it was and b) it was a competition prize with a custom goth paint-job. I played it for a year or so and then fell into the stupid trap of thinking along the lines "If the SUB is THIS good, an SR5 will be even better", sold the SUB, bought and SR5, and probably have experienced fewer greater disappointments with a bass purchase. The SR5 was a completely different and a far more polite/tame beast (and had the fugly pickguard that I still find offensive whenever I see one)!. SUBs were built for the gigging musician, no frills, no hint of coffee table finishes, tone woods or any of the other factors that allow manufacturers/marketers to push instrument prices through the roof, just a well-specified, well-built instrument at what was then a very decent price. The SUB was very much in the spirit of Leo Fender, who I guess was ultimately its designer 👍
  4. Yep, nothing better than good tight playing on a Precision to support a song, makes we want to go and get some tapewounds (and a '78) 👍
  5. The seller's reply to you 'No pics of the neck stamp but it's genuine...' is all I'd need to know. I'd need to see those pics before I travelled even a few miles to view it 🤔
  6. I look at basses these days and simply go on gut feel. My knowledge is nowhere near the likes of some of the guys here such as @wateroftyne @AndyTravis @Chiliwailer so there are far better opinions than mine, but I do know for sure that I wouldn’t travel far to take a look at this bass especially if, like my experience with a reputable London shop a few years back, the seller refuses to allow inspection of the heel/pocket on the basis that it might damage the bass….. 🤔
  7. He says he’s played it since the 70’s, almost six 🤔
  8. I’m going on gut instinct and saying it’s dodgy 👍
  9. Have you Google image searched the photos?
  10. Ha ha, you live and learn 👍
  11. Think you’ll find it was ‘Stingray Utility Bass’ 👍
  12. I’m partial to the opposite, Jazz Bass with Precision neck 👍
  13. A perennial problem with being in any tribute band is the almost universal requirement for a guitarist 😆
  14. Surrender is a classic, you need to explain this to your covers band Jack 👍
  15. Cheap Trick circa Dream Police were a band I really wanted to be in, albeit I was about 12, as well as The Cars, the latter being the band I’m thinking of doing?
  16. Would love to hear some of your thoughts on leading a tribute act, especially one performing music by a pretty unique band?
  17. Let's see where it goes next Jack, speaker characteristics to car boot capacity, beekeeping might be next 😃
  18. Guys, there’s Carbootsizechat for all this stuff 😆
  19. Never played a Spector, but think that’s about it of the major brands 👍
  20. Live it, Surrender sounds great 👍
