1. Interesting thread, the title of which is the exact same question I've been asking myself since A-Bing my DB750 with my B-15 and finding that the former fared pretty well, or at least well enough for me to question whether my assumption that, as my gigging days are largely behind me, I should keep the B-15 and let the DB750 and two DB112s go. Had the 750 not performed so well, it would have been a no brainer, my main interest now is going to be recording, and the B-15 is the definitive recording tool. However, it's not exactly a versatile gigging machine! Having said that, the DB750is perhaps not exactly a utilty gigging machine either (45lbs my a**e). So if the TH350 or TH500 might be good enough for the odd gig that pops up, I could sel the BD750 which, given the outlay I need to make, would allow me to keep the B-15 in the studio and take out a nice, albeit smaller Aggie rig, for the odd gig. So, obvious plan was to sell the 750 and buy the smaller head, taking about £500 on the deal towards studio build and gear. But..... If the DB750 records as well as the B-15, or close enough, perhaps the trick is simply to keep it and sell the B-15. That way I have a rig that works for both purposes and does both very well. So a couple of questions. Firstly, does the DB750 record well acoustically and via the XLR? I guess my point of reference here is the B-15 (I don't have my desk set up yet so am unable to record side by side for a while). Second, in terms of recording, how would the TH500 fare compared to the DB750, again both acoustically and via DI? It certainly seems that the TH fares 'well enough' in live applications? I hope the above makes sense? Cheers Chris
 2. Thank you for your kind comments gentlemen, the rather attractive blonde is now sold and will be spending the foreseeable future in that London
 3.
Jeez, I'd feel like Elvis with this bass........
I'd love to see you in a white one-piece rhinestone jumpsuit Greg
 4. Dan, I suspect that if this was on eBay at a substantially higher price it would sell quickly? OK, it can be quite uncomfortable selling high value items via that route, but the risk can be pretty much mitigated through careful statement of T&Cs in the listing (and obviously if you provide a contact number people will try to deal direct). £6,000 for that bass? As Bacon would say "It's Sale of the f*****g Century"
 5. Long queue for the Aggie gear so a quick bump for the apparently rather unnoticed yet very high quality PJB Briefcase at the top of this thread
 6. You only have to start the process of identifying s favourite to realise just what an extraordinary talent he was. I agree with nearly all the selections so far!
 7.
This is a lovely bass, with a nice warm sound that contrasts very well with the relatively bright velvets. Chris has had some great work done to get this bass in top condition. Best of luck with the sale, should make a nice DB for someone out there in need
Thanks Jason, i have to agree, it has a lovely tone that would not embarrass a far more expensive instrument. I've had a think about pricing on this bass and for a couple of reasons am going to revise it down to £800. Firstly, I was mislead by the label into believing it to be a 1960's English instrument when in fact the label was the importer not the builder; as Jason mentioned in his thread it is likely of Czech origin. Second, in arriving at £1000 I added what I paid for the bass to 2/3 the cost of the work I had done on the bass, and in doing so I'm not sure I've arrived at an entirely reasonable price. So, £800 it is. For that price it is a no-brainer to be honest
 8. So how good was my recent deal with Roberto? F*****g awesome to be honest! Firstly the deal was a Chadwick Folding Bass, not often seen over here, and something of a dream instrument for me having seen them here and there over the years. Second, Roberto clearly had cold feet selling it - and for anyone who's played this is entirely understandable - but went through as agreed. Third, despite the fact it folds, it's not an easy thing to post 500 or so miles, but was packed absolutely perfectly to the point that not even Parcel Money could have damaged it (although it was sent via a much better service). Last but not least however, we agreed a price for the courier and as these things go, the actual cost was about twice what we agreed, but Roberto covered the whole fee without question or complaint. In short, I can't recommend or thank Roberto highly enough, a great instrument, a great deal and a great transaction. Deal with confidence folks. Chris
 9. Man, that's a nice tour, and on stage as well, good stuff! Would love to catch the show but looks close to sold out already (3 seats left for Friday). Perhaps drop me a PM if you fancy a beer or two mate, it'll be a pleasure to welcome you to town. C
 10. Some more pics and some specific comments re condition etc below. It's an old bass, and has spent a lot of time on it's sides (no comments please), so there are a lot of scuff marks. All joints are however sound and there are no structural issues. Tail-pin doesn't look very nice but is appropriately aligned and rock solid Philippe moved the bridge slightly as can be seen in the pic below and, along with a few other modifications, this has noticeably improved both sustain and volume. I play a relatively high action..... ...but as you can see, the bridge can go down a long way and given the trueness of the lovely new board, the instrument will take an almost electric bass action (I've done it) The back of the neck may not look very nice, but compared to what would have been a very sticky original finish, and a quite heavy oil that was on previously, the sanded and lightly oiled finish on now is a dream to play. It's a lovely solid neck enhanced hugely by the new ebony board. Close up the nicely oiled neck and the join with the new board, which is a lovely thick piece of ebony More of that lovely high action over that lovely new board And again! Happy to talk string options as I've a few sets of DB strings lying around to say the least
 11.
Beautiful DB, Chris.. GLWTS!
Thanks Nik, it's a lovely old thing and, as ever, a shame to see it go, but I now have a lovely Chadwick that will work for both recording and the occasional acoustic gig. As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm still travelling down Sussex/Hampshire regularly to see my sister........
Chris are you still in Canterbury? I ask because I'm on a tour that does a week in the Marlowe as of Tuesday Perhaps a pint may be possible? Jake
Hi Jake, I am indeed and am walking distance from the Marlowe mate, what show are you in, I'd love to pop down? Oh, and do you need a new bass
 12.
Is that 800 for the pair of DB's mate?
It is yes
 13. Wal and Yammie now sold folks, sorry. I will PM all interested parties ASAP (there were quite a few for both). Thanks Chris
 14. Re the Aggie, I'm pondering keeping one of the cabs and getting a smaller/lighter head, so might consider a PX for the DB750 with a smaller Aggie head e.g. Tone Hammer. Just a thought anyway
 15.
A new blonde would be very nice but I'm banned from buying any more basses.
Ah but I wasn't thinking about the Wal mate, I was thinking the DB
 16.
Would it fit a Stonehenge model

20'' x 14'' That'll be a small amp flight case then? Looks great, as does the Wal
Ah yes, the perils of posting from a phone! To clarify it's about 20 x 14 FEET
 17.
& they probably have the money to use whatever they fancy. But how much of that B-15 sound is gonna stay unprocessed? On a budget, you can get a decent set of monitors and a good Amp sim & have change left over from what a B-15 (or just about any decent amp/combo) would cost.
Totally agree, I was only pulling your chain I've no doubt that my B15 is in many respects an expensive placebo, but it's one I'm very happy to live with. I love the ritual of taking the cover off, unclipping the lid and flipping it open, plugging it in and checking everything's where it should be, watching the tubes light up and waiting for it to warm. To me it's the same as playing an old LP compared to hitting an icon on your iPhone screen; there's genuine pleasure to be found in the ritual, irrespective of what the objective truth might be. That subjective pleasure adds to the experience, and music, both playing and listening, is all about the experience
 18.
I've done two gigs in four years. I've got two P Basses, one with flats the other with rounds, because when that 3rd gig comes knocking I want to be ready for anything!
A man after my own heart
 19.
I'm seriously considering using VSTs on a macbook for playing live. There's pro gigging musicians that already do this (Pino uses an iPad).
Yep, but I bet they're using a B-15 or similar to record
 20.
Would it fit a Stonehenge model
Yes, and all controls are 0-11
 21.
I can vouch for just how good a condition the DB112 cabs are in as Chris bought them from me. I owned them for over 2 years and they are in brilliant condition as they were flightcased whilst with me. Bump.
Thanks Jamie, they're pretty much as new aren't they, you took good care of the mate! In response to a couple of PMs I've added couple of pics above but will take better at the weekend I promise!
 22.
Holy carp she is utterly gorgeous!
It is isn't it - although not sure what carp have to do with anything Looks-wise I have to admit I much prefer it to it's darker sibling in the pic above, but the latter cost me a lot less and is probably not really as good a sales prospect in its current condition anyway. As a couple of folks have asked, here's a pic of the cabin, as yet unfinished. It looks pretty small but it's deceptive, at about 20"x14" there's plenty of room for a decent sized band to record in there. Wish it would stop raining for a few days so I can get the finish on!
