1. Thanks Dan, really not a problem, I've checked it all out and it's all as described above, that is all parts are authentic and original (the tuners and neckplate excepted), it's just they didn't all originate on the same instrument, which - Fender's late 70's QC being what it was - probably means it's a better instrument all round than had it left the factory as one! I'm not going to chase the seller despite the fact he's clearly dishonest so have left feedback to that effect and will get on with playing some bass rather than buying, selling, modifying etc! I want to keep this bass because it has a great core tone, but I don't need this bass, so I'm happy if it goes but won't be unhappy if it stays. £600 seems a very fair price all things considered so I hope someone who both wants and needs it comes along and makes my mind up for me! Cheers Chris
 2.
I wonder how much, (and is it worth doing) changing the colour to seafoam or yellow?
Ha ha, defo not my colour scheme mate! Folks, I've had a few PMs on this, thanks for that. I perhaps indicated above that I'm after the eBay seller, I'm not, I really don't care to be honest, it's a lovely instrument and once I've verified that all parts are in fact original 70's USA Fender, I doubt it changes much (let's face it, most late 70's Fenders were bitsas when they left the factory). I've emailed the seller suggesting that he was, shall we say, economic with the truth, but I doubt much will happen. All of the above taken in to account, I'm probably happy to sell it and equally happy to keep it, although if the latter the finish is coming off and that PUPs going where it should be! Chris
 3. I find most vintage Fender gear, especially cabs, not very bassy. As above, the Bassman is/are very good, but better through Ampeg cabs C
 4.
Thank God for that! Temptation and lust defeated
Well, I wouldn't speak too soon Karl..... It's on hold because I've just had a chat with a very well respected and long standing member who not only used to own this bass, but in fact actually put this bass together form parts. So, it's a bitsa, the degree of bitsa-ness yet to be confirmed as it's a while since the BCer did the work. This has a couple of implications. Firstly whilst it might be all 70's USA parts - and I'm emphasising the might - it's likely not a restoration project, which makes me more inclined to keep it, strip it, fill the holes, oil it and play it. On that basis nothing has changed perhaps, it's still a cracking bass. Second, I'm going to pursue the guy I bought it from, who told a story about the bass which clearly isn't true, and it appears that the original owner/builder pointed this out to him via the eBay listing and was ignored when he did. Even were the bass all original, the seller's description as to its originality and condition was so far off that it was laughable (for example, he suggested he was regularly playing it, but when I received it part of the neck tilt assembly was missing, and looked like it has been for some time, meaning that it didn't stay in tune for more than about 20 seconds due to the neck moving in play). I emailed the seller about this when I bought it and received no reply, so thought 'sod it', spent £150 and did some work and got it back to playable. Anyway, i'm waiting for a response form the eBay seller. If I don't get one I'll keep the bass and reveal the full details of the eBay seller so you good folks can avoid him, especially if you are active in the live/pub circuit in Nottingham (he plays g****r in a Nottingham pub rock band) So, in short, I'm happy to sell it, as I said above I'm spending too much time messing about with basses and not enough time playing them (I'm a sucker for the word 'project'). I will however wait to see if I get a response from the seller first regarding a return and refund, although I'm not optimistic as it's past the 45 days instant refund stage and he came across as less than honest when I was dealing with him. I'll have to content myself with the word 'fraudulent' in his feedback. I I sell, I think £600 is a fair price, but ahead of selling it I will get verification on the parts that I'm in doubt about, namely the body. Might even part it out.... Basses eh! Chris
 5. Many thanks Karl, greatly appreciated. This bass is now on hold Chris
 6. OK, I've decided to definitely sell this beauty. I spend too much time on project basses and not enough time playing them. This is perfectly playable as is, but I know that if I keep it I'm going to end up spending time and money on it, and both are in short supply at present. Happy to talk cash offers.
 7. Thanks folks, now sold I'm sad to say, although happy for the buyer who will no doubt build a cracking bass
 8.
Surely this can't still be here by evening? Bargain beauty.
Dan, on the money there mate, now sold Chris
 9.
Buy with confidence people. This man knows his Fender's and is a pleasure to deal with. Getting this Jazz off him is going to a bit of a wrench, so make it quick and make it as painless as possible. If I had the cash, I would be on my way over there (again) myself.
+1, in my book if Dan says it's a good'un, it's a good'un
 10.
Surely this can't still be here by evening? Bargain beauty.
Ha ha, thanks Dan, there's SO many great basses for sale on here at the moment that we're all spoilt for choice - I doubt there's ever been a better time to buy a bass to be honest. Just seen from your sig that you're letting one of your Jazzes go also. All the best with that mate Cheers C
 11. In response to a couple of enquiries apparently the PUPs are passive the only active component being the circuit Chris
 12. OK, I've had a couple of enquiries so just to confirm 100% what is being sold here and the terms of sale is the following: Used parts

I x large black EUB body very similar to a Yamaha SLB-100 in feel and weight (it is big). It has a painted board that has worn in places to the wood but which is in generally good playable condition. Any repair to the board would likely be aesthetic as opposed to functional. The body itself is painted in a thick black coating meaning it is not easy to see of how many pieces the instrument is constructed. However it feels strong, the only slight issue is the eight screws at back and foot of the body (photos above), which suggest that at some time the body may have been repaired where the endpin joins it.
1 x black bridge, semi adjustable but otherwise no further details
1 x black tailpiece no further details
1 x Kent Armstrong mag neck-mounted PUP. This is clearly used and was taped to a board at some time and could do with a clean up. I also suspect that it wouldn't do any harm at all to re-solder the leads to the unit, or at least reinforce the connection on some other way.
1 x Bassbalsereit DB pickup boxed. This requires a hole drilled into the bridge to function
New items bought from Thomann

4 x 001.00 RUBNER DOUBLE BASS MACHINES 4-STRING for 4/4 -3/4 doublebasses, single machines, French style, nickel-plated, complete set of 4 machines, order code: 257587, amount: 1 pc(s)
2 x 002.00 GEWA ENDPIN DOUBLE BASS STANDARD, metal rod, 8mm diameter, 33cm length, plywood endpin cone with diameter 28mm to 26mm.order code: 246528
1 x 003.00 GEWA TAILGUT FOR DOUBLE BASS 3/4, Nylon. Order code: 228633, amount: 1 pc(s)
New items bough from Caswells

1 x Double bass semi fitted ebony saddle x 1
1 x Double bass top nut semi shaped ebony (I have two more of these somewhere but my daughters have hidden them!)
I think I need to be quite clear that this deal has to be no returns so please look at the photos and the above before deciding to buy. It is a project not an instrument, and on that basis comes with an element of risk. The risk is mitigated to an extent by the fact that if sold separately the two pickups could probably raise £100 and the tuners £60, meaning that if you put it all together and the body folds into two when strung, all is not lost! All joking aside, it's a big strong piece of wood so I doubt there'll be any problems, but it will require work. I was going to strip it down to bare wood before building it, that way I would be confident about the condition of what's under the paint, but this of course is a long job in itself and is in part why I'm selling the project. Wish I could do it myself. Anyway, please feel free to ask further questions
 13.
If you could ship it or meet up somehow I'd have it Chris.
Ha ha, I'd love to see the face of the Parcelforce driver who has to collect this! This may be sold locally and there are a couple of other enquiries, but it would be good to have an excuse to finally meet up! C
 14. Another option is £250 with the original EMG active PUPs. This is a steal because I now have four fretless basses, need to clear the decks and need some cash.
 15. This is still available until I fire up the V4B and SVT15E again and change my mind
 16. PPS this is the only 'rough' part of the body, at the bottom on the back. Some decent screws will no doubt help this 9streaks are the result of my washing off some dust) Just gave the board a good wipe and the wood is actually really quite nice and will oil very well.
 17. PS I know the tuners look rather minimal but the Thomann page here http://www.thomann.de/gb/rubner_doublebass_machines_4_string_3.htm indicates that they are indeed designed that way!
 18. Some photos of the bits included in this sale PUP number 1: Basbalsereit Standard. Requires a hole drilled in the bridge, I've never used it as me and drills have a patchy history. Reports are varied but those that like it appear to like it a lot PUP number 2: Kent Armstrong magnetic: it's seen some action and has been gaffa taped heavily at some stage in its life but will still do the job nicely (as long as you're using mag strings of course) Bridge: your guess is as good as mine.... Tailpiece Tailpieces x 2 Tuners: amazingly - for Thomann anyway - these were sold without screws. so these will need to be sourced elsewhere Tail thingy Nut and tailpiece blanks Headstock: a bit dusty... Body: board looks much darker in the flesh and although it looks worn, the wear is in the finish not in the wood. I must restate that this is a project. The parts above cost me over £300, but with a little care and patience, this will make a decent EUB that will be substantially better than many models on the market that cost a lot more than what I paid for the bit! If you take this on you will need some skills, you won;t need to be a luthier, but you will need to know your way around a file or a piece of sandpaper. For example either the endpin or the endpin socket will require modification to fit, the board could probably do with a refin (although I was going to use oil as opposed to anything more substantial), and I strongly suspect the area around the endpin could do with a few reinforcement screws. There are also no doubt some 'unknown unknowns', although I doubt that many in an instrument this simple. I wish I had the time, the space and the patience to do it, but all three are in short supply at present, although I have no doubt that when photos of the finished article pop up on BC I'll kick myself!
 19.
Oh yus
I'll start, with thanks to your good self of course
 20. We'll be needing to start a reverse headstock telebass club Karl
 21.
I just don't get the s**t that's been thrown at the OP for daring to complain that an item he had ordered and paid postage to be delivered signed for was dumped into his garden overs gate, left to the elements and his signature fraudulently applied to say he had received it.
OK, differing opinions for sure, but another perspective is that, unlike the situation in which you were involved, nothing actually happened. Well, that's not entirely true, what did happen is that a courier company delivered a bass in one piece on the day it was due to be delivered and then a bloke got fired (although like a few folks above I doubt this is the case to be honest). And even had the bass been damaged or lost the OP would certainly have been fully reimbursed by either Thomann or PF because the driver had signed for receipt and the buyer could likely prove this. So, from every level of scrutiny this is a non-event. Even had things been worse, it would still have been preferable to a number of other courier related fiascos, for example a neighbour signing for a box with a dirty great hole in it but PF and the seller both stating 'it was signed for as undamaged therefore we are not liable', the courier losing the entire package and claiming it had been delivered but that the driver's hand held device had broken and had not stored the signature, or the box and the item coming in two separate pieces and the courier claiming it was poorly packaged and again not accepting liability, all of which have happened to me in recent years, and none of which I deemed sufficiently serious to warrant an email to the MD
