Even were the bass all original, the seller's description as to its originality and condition was so far off that it was laughable (for example, he suggested he was regularly playing it, but when I received it part of the neck tilt assembly was missing, and looked like it has been for some time, meaning that it didn't stay in tune for more than about 20 seconds due to the neck moving in play). I emailed the seller about this when I bought it and received no reply, so thought 'sod it', spent £150 and did some work and got it back to playable. [/font][/color] [color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Anyway, i'm waiting for a response form the eBay seller. If I don't get one I'll keep the bass and reveal the full details of the eBay seller so you good folks can avoid him, especially if you are active in the live/pub circuit in Nottingham (he plays g****r in a Nottingham pub rock band) [/font][/color] [color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]So, in short, I'm happy to sell it, as I said above I'm spending too much time messing about with basses and not enough time playing them (I'm a sucker for the word 'project'). I will however wait to see if I get a response from the seller first regarding a return and refund, although I'm not optimistic as it's past the 45 days instant refund stage and he came across as less than honest when I was dealing with him. It has a painted board that has worn in places to the wood but which is in generally good playable condition. Any repair to the board would likely be aesthetic as opposed to functional. The body itself is painted in a thick black coating meaning it is not easy to see of how many pieces the instrument is constructed. However it feels strong, the only slight issue is the eight screws at back and foot of the body (photos above), which suggest that at some time the body may have been repaired where the endpin joins it. [*]1 x black bridge, semi adjustable but otherwise no further details [*]1 x black tailpiece no further details [*]1 x Kent Armstrong mag neck-mounted PUP. This is clearly used and was taped to a board at some time and could do with a clean up. I also suspect that it wouldn't do any harm at all to re-solder the leads to the unit, or at least reinforce the connection on some other way. [*]1 x Bassbalsereit DB pickup boxed. It is a project not an instrument, and on that basis comes with an element of risk. The risk is mitigated to an extent by the fact that if sold separately the two pickups could probably raise £100 and the tuners £60, meaning that if you put it all together and the body folds into two when strung, all is not lost! All joking aside, it's a big strong piece of wood so I doubt there'll be any problems, but it will require work. I was going to strip it down to bare wood before building it, that way I would be confident about the condition of what's under the paint, but this of course is a long job in itself and is in part why I'm selling the project. Another option is £250 with the original EMG active PUPs. This is a steal because I now have four fretless basses, need to clear the decks and need some cash.

The parts above cost me over £300, but with a little care and patience, this will make a decent EUB that will be substantially better than many models on the market that cost a lot more than what I paid for the bit! If you take this on you will need some skills, you won;t need to be a luthier, but you will need to know your way around a file or a piece of sandpaper. For example either the endpin or the endpin socket will require modification to fit, the board could probably do with a refin (although I was going to use oil as opposed to anything more substantial), and I strongly suspect the area around the endpin could do with a few reinforcement screws. There are also no doubt some 'unknown unknowns', although I doubt that many in an instrument this simple. I wish I had the time, the space and the patience to do it, but all three are in short supply at present, although I have no doubt that when photos of the finished article pop up on BC I'll kick myself!
