  1. Man, I’d love to get the Venture combo again, best combo I’ve ever played, albeit one of the heaviest and hardest to move!
  2. Been thinking about projects and bands for 2020, so a few other potential trades/PXs...... Modulus Flea/Pre EB 'ray Ric c64/v63 Takamine B-10/TB-10
  3. The finish on the FL boards could be better IMO
  4. I’ve owned five, and to this day I’m unsure why I sold two of them, C64 and a 4003FL. All I have to add to this thread is that there is a lot of nonsense talked about the ric sound, the 4003s are easily as versatile as any twin PUP passive bass, and can do dub just as well as they can do clank. A 4003 with heavy flats, played with a pic through a B15 is about as iconic a bass tone as youll get - powerful rounded bass, slightly subdued mids and sweet highs - it’s like a fine wine
  5. It would be great to think that they could reclaim that dynamic, perhaps it needs JF to go away and come back again - each time perhaps renewed or refreshed to the point that he's able to be so heavily involved? Looking forward to hearing the next album either way
  6. That's a decent point Bilbo, I guess I had always seen fretless as so much harder irrespective of other factors, and it was really odd to find that frets, fat from being the solution to my technique as they had often in the past, were actually getting in the way!
  7. Hope it goes well Clarky, the World needs more of your type of music mate! C
  8. In my experience, a heavier bridge is about different tone, not necessarily better tone. I had a Precision a few years back that had, to my ear, a nasty undertone to some of the notes, it wasn't a rattle or a buzz, it was a very subtle but once heard very annoying artefact. I 'upgraded' to a Badass II, and it got a whole lot worse. Given all the variables - type of bass, woods, PUPs, strings, amp, style of play - a new bridge can go either way. Only one way to find out though!
  9. Hi Sumatra, Yes, epoxied. I’ll fully update the rest of the details with photos when I get the chance. Cheers. C
  10. Seems a bit daft to list this as trade only as there's quite a few nice old basses out there for sale at present, so I'll happily talk cash offers for this lovely old Jazz. Also happy to discuss PX with anything nice and old, 4-string basses (especially old Fender or Yamaha), 6-string guitars (especially Fender electric or Gibson acoustic). Cheers C
  11. Very '70s pub scene - Feelgoods, Nine Below Zero, Eddie & The Hot Rods. Nice one Clarky
  12. And the photographer of course
  13. Everything about that photo is right
  14. A great example of how playing one note only through an entire song is all about feel, so it's not as easy a song to play as the single note idea would suggest
  15. Lovely bass, but far too pristine for me mate
  16. Thanks mate, there's only one in Kent listed there and his link no longer works, so I'm keen to hear if anyone has a decent tech down here in Kent also, I know of a few but I've not had sufficiently good experience with them to list them as decent I'm afraid!
  17. Evening all I played this bass in a shop years ago (Chandlers I think), at which time I was still firmly in something of a Jaco phase. I loved it, and thought "I'll own that one day when I have a proper job"! It popped up for sale on Reverb earlier this year so I jumped at it. It's absolutely glorious, and pretty much sounds like it looks (and smells), open the case and plug it in and it oozes a 50+ year history of jazz/blues bars, sweat, nicotine and alcohol. It's obviously had a few changes over the years, but none detract from the fact that this is a fine example of a well played vintage musician's bass, and far closer I imagine to Jaco's than the FCS relic ever was (I've owned that also). But I sank almost £3k into a bass that I only play at home, which simply doesn't work with any of the bands I play in, and which I think I'd prefer to sell or trade for something more useful (I also have a Warmoth FL Jazz that works better for me having a 44mm). Photos below from the dealer's site, I can provide more detailed shots if needed. Cheers Chris
  18. Love that vid
  19. Mudbuckers are difficult beasts to tame, and whilst I’m happy to be proved wrong, I’m pretty sure not many reggae bassists use them. An active circuit might be a better bet?
  20. Absolutely, and some neck sound great on pretty much all bodies. I've got two Warmoth necks that have made every bass they've been on sound a whole lot better.
  21. And you can always try one of these, unbelievably light
  22. How my DB gets to gigs
  23. Harry, take a look at Alexander Technique and even yoga. Posture and pain is a big problem for bass players, human bodies weren't designed to stand pretty still for hours on end with a boat anchor around our necks. One or other - and sometimes simple weight training (squats and deadlifts) - have done the trick for a few musos I know. Good luck mate. C
  24. So it’s better to think too little than too much?
