  1. As I’ve said before on BC, the guy’s playing inspires me, I’ve worked on some of his versions and they’ve helped my technique no end, he’s not an album musician but that’s not his thing 👍
  2. Seriously, your views in music are not shared by everyone so you threaten people, perhaps get out on the streets and threaten some minorities while you’re at it 👍
  3. And if it’s still around in early September I’ll be coming down to try it out Lawrie 👍
  4. Beautiful, a unique and quite extraordinary instrument. These sell for stupid money in the US, hard to put a ‘normal’ price on UK sales given they come up for sale around once every five years here. They also have unique tone, perfect for bluegrass and country but surprisingly good in jazz (great for rockabilly of course). Frankly I think Lawrie’s underpriced this, but he’s like that 👍

    Flatter.

And a very chunky/deep neck profile. If I ever need to change between fretted and fretless on the same bass - happens occasionally - it's a 15-minute job to swap necks over and tweak action. Think I'll stick with that method 👍

    Flatter.

When selecting a board material for a fretless bass, plastic is not my first choice..... Although of course according to many on here the material chosen makes no difference to sound
  7. Yep, many lessons learned on this one 👍
  8. Two collections within 50 miles of each other, one two Mesa Diesel cabs (not urgent) and one a bike that was time-critical as it was a gift that needed collection within a 2-hour slot on the evening in question. And yes, I paid over the odds which is why it was so frustrating that he was so poor. By paying that much I hoped to avoid the usual courier shit And yes, I'm acutely aware this is a very first world problem
  9. Mate, you did your best and I'm very grateful, especially as you were on holiday at the time. You tried to help the guy out as he built his business, which was good of you. It however says a lot about him that despite the high quantity of work your advocacy here had brought him, he still refused to act decently when things went wrong and you intervened to try and resolve. £325 is a lot of cash for a courier delivery, in fact it was £235 more than Shipley quoted, but I need the item picked up in a small window and he agreed to do that. I suspect that by keeping my £325 in the short term he's going to lose far more in the long-term. So be it, it was all his choice.
  10. Most of the original finish mid-70s black Jazzes I've seen have finishes that were heavily cracked and falling off in lumps. No idea as to whether Fender had some issue with black finishes in that era, but whenever I see a relatovely decent black finish on a mid '70's Jazz it looks wrong (oddly I've not come across a Precision with similar issues)?
  11. I had the same model in a natural finish, and the comparison with Fenders of the era (late 70's) doesn't stand up I'm afraid. The Yamaha was infinitely better. Very good materials, very well engineered (built like a tank but not especially heavy), well finished, and evenly balanced across and up and down the strings. Lovely instrument. And as is always the case when I've found a really good bass at a decent price, I sold it in order to buy something far more expensive and of much lower quality 🤔
  12. Sadly Tim, the driver in question, let me down very badly in failing to make an agreed pickup that was time critical, not bothering to tell me he'd missed it until I chased him, at which point by phone he agreed to cancel the job and refund, but then when chased again refused to refund by suggesting it was all my fault for being up tight in expecting collection on the day I'd paid £325 for him to collect. He then told me to take him to court because, quote 'He wins all his court cases'. Following my trying to resolve and us agreeing a settlement which covered his costs - which we pretty decent of me frankly - he still did not pay as agreed. He then, when chased for the final time, pulled the classic 'Can you be patient, I'm going through some personal issues' excuse. In short, he might be fine when things are going well, but when they don't, and like a few luthiers mentioned in other threads on this forum, he ducks out of his business responsibilities, tells lies, makes accusations, and blames others for his shortcomings. @walshy is aware and tried very hard to resolve things. If you choose to use this guy, you've been warned.
  13. That’s a nice looking instrument but at the price I’d wait for something verifiably authentic and original to come along, it’s a buyer’s market at present 👍
  14. That has to be the ultimate 80’s FL, it shouts ‘Song from under the floorboards’ to me. Beautiful instrument at every level 👍
  15. Jack, just confirming, would you describe this as a manly bass?
  16. That’s a very good point Tony, I stand corrected 🙏
  17. Until about 2-mins ago I had no idea this existed, but now I do, it seems the worst of both Worlds; a fretted bass that's gonna be way harder to play than a standard EB and probably not sound anything like as good, and an upright bass that doesn;t do any of the magic that a standard upright or even EUB can do on account of having no frets. Sorry if that wasn't much help
  18. Body = lovely Pickguard............ WTF?
