1. I've had a lot of trade offers but not really anything I need. I have a few things that at present I could use the money on, so I will consider cash offers on this bass Chris
  2. Seems a fair listing to me, he's allowing bidders to make offers so a slightly ambitious starting price is expected
  3. I’ve had a good long rethink about what I need in amplification terms and I’ve decided that Markbass no longer figure. Don't get me wrong, I think the gear is outstanding, it’s just that – somewhat ironically - I’ve found myself investing heavily in lightweight gear at a time at which I suspect that my gigging days are over, and one at which I want to focus my musical energies towards writing and recording. So, despite the gear in question all being relatively recent acquisitions, I am letting it all go, plus a couple of other items also. I’ve listed every item cheap because I’m not going to haggle and am not looking for trades of PX. I’m happy to put any or all items into very secure packaging and post anywhere in the UK but for a number of reasons – including both voltage issues and two recent transactions that have left me feeling rather jaded – I will not send outside of the UK. Please don't ask for trades or overseas postage. There are pics of each in the links but I will add detailed pics as and when I can take them. All gear is in VERY good condition and has been well looked after. First up Mini CMD 121P and the matching New York 121 cab, both in covers. Recent, in fact very recent purchase from Spongebob here http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2698457. I paid £600 which was a bargain, that’s what I’m asking. Postage on top. SOLD Second Markbass AC 101 Acoustic Bass amplifier http://www.markbass....etail.php?id=73, absolutely great for DB and actually not bad for electric (I assume great for acoustic bass also). Also does a fine job with mandolin and guitar. These go for close to a grand when you can find them http://www.gak.co.uk...ss-ac-101/28694. £350 plus postage And last but not least…. Markbass TTE500 in gigbag paired with a Barefaced Compact in a rather fetching vintage outfit. This has been my main gigging rig and is lovely, light as a feather (can carry head in left hand, cab in right and bass on back with utmost of ease). Loud and light with some lovely tones. Bought from Stu (onehappybunny) on here a year or so back for a grand http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1, selling for £800 for the two or £450 each (plus postage). Please, no offers, the above prices are very good. It’s all Italian by the way Chris
  4. Every thrwad on this tired website is eventually OT these days. Used to be a bass forum, now pretty much a bunch of bored folks looking for an argument as far as I can tell? Anyway, back on topic, web is how things are done theses days, no ones making anyone watch her, she's no doubt better than 99% of BC members, and whilst I can play s lot of parts, if I were in stage with JK I'd probably make a balls up of it also.
  5. Will consider trades/PXs (with cash either way as appropriate). Looking at present for Fender Strats, Gibson Mandolins and Yamaha SV electric violins.
  6.
Seriously are we not even allowed to write the word Rickenbacker any more? Edit: just re-read the rules. 😊
Complex these days isn't it!
  7.
I wonder whether you are again hankering after a famous 63 RI by any chance !!!
Not quite John but not far off, think of a bass from the year afterwards and you're there (funnily enough whilst looking exactly the same they are different beasts)!
Hey Chris.... Didn't I buy one of these from you back in the day ?? Awesome instrument.... Memo self... I don't need another ;-) GLWTS
Yes, that was 2007! Long time ago eh. It's funny that I fell very much out of love with it quite suddenly, and like yourself was playing in a Chili's band that needed a Modulus Flea more than it needed a Jaco (despite Flea rather mysteriously playing what appears to be a FCS Jaco in the video for 'Tell Me Baby' I've hankered after one ever since, and decided to go for it after selling my DB a while back. Thing is I think I got VERY lucky with the Tokai, which is outstanding, and even I don't need two fretless Jazzes! Just strikes me as more sense to move on the more expensive instrument, especially as my number 1 fretless will always be the Ric (yep, that one John!). Good to hear from you both
  8. I have withdrawn the Tokai FL so this is now most definitely for sale now. I will be happy to consider trade offers for basses of similar value from Fender, Musicman, Wal, and other classic basses (mentioning no names).
  9.
does this one have the Epoxy resin on fingerboard, whereas the Tokai does not? just out of interest, how much difference does this make? (sorry if this is not the right place to ask) cheers, Roman
Yes, and so does the Tokai, although in the case of the Tokai it was not a factory finish but was put on following the defret (which of course makes it a more authentic Jaco tribute that the FCS which has never had any frets!) As to differences over a normal/unfinished rosewood board, it depends on so many factors (including type of strings, action, and playing style, but I'd say it feels slightly harder under the fingers and produces a slightly brighter tone. I also feel it is a little less forgiving in terms of intonation, although I might be imagining this! I assume it also wears less under rounds than will an unfinished board. Both necks are lovely to play, I'd say the neck on the FCS Jaco is quite possibly one of the nicest I've ever played, and this seems to be the consensus elsewhere (e.g., on Talkbass) Chris
  10. Bought a couple of months ago from Mark at Bass Direct, original ad here. I'm asking what I paid for it. http://bassdirect.co...storius_CS.html I find myself between a rock and a hard place with this bass, I have a lovely Tokai JazzSound that, whilst it is not as good as this bass, does the job well enough for me (that bass is also listed for sale here http://basschat.co.u...er-report-pups/). So, I'm torn between emotional links to the CS bass and pragmatic links to the Tokai. On that basis I thought I'd list both and see what develops. I'll entertain trade offers on this bass as there is a specific bass I'd be happy to take in trade/PX but which I can't openly ask for on the forum! Chris
  11.
Gutted! I ordered a bb1025x just last week, if only I had waited :-( Good luck with the sale!
Distance buying regs might help you out there?
  12. Yep, that's the best value for money bass for sale on this forum at present by a long way, outstanding instruments
  13. Hello Mr T Weighs in at around 8.5 lbs on the bathroom scales, which is a tad lighter than the FCS Jaco. Neck is 40mm wide and 21 mm deep (centre line) at the nut, which is about a mm deeper than the FCS. This feels more C and the Jaco more D. Having played both this afternoon I have to say that I like each bass equally, but prefer the SD PUPs to those on the FCS, the back PUP especially is outstanding. Chris

  15. Original build thread here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/182246-la-cabronita-porazzo-custom-precision-build/page__st__30__p__1810839__hl__dusty__fromsearch__1#entry1810839
  16.
Def Jaco vibe happening here! Mwah....
There is indeed some Jaco-ness Had a few PMs offering trades. Thanks but whilst I'm happy to talk cash offers, I have all the gear I need right now.
  17.
Do like! I tried this at a Bass Bash when it was Billy Apple's and loved it. If one of mine sells I may be onto this. Out of interest, do you have the the white pickguard for it Beedster?
Hello mate, Billy did PM me about the pickguard but I forget what he said, I'll chase it up Cheers Chris
  18.
Very cool bass. GLWTS
Thanks Aero, couple of folks asked re the reason for the sale, it's to be found here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/255174-sold-fender-custom-shop-1955-precision-ltd-ed-relic-2013/page__fromsearch__1 You can probably see why I don't need two! As is the case with the Jazz I'm currently selling, difference in tone and playability, not a whole lot to be honest. FCS is perhaps a tad more to my liking, but at the price it should be really
  19. Incoming instrument means this is for sale. It's lovely as is reported elsewhere on the forum (I'll link to the threads when I find them). It's the Muhammad Ali of basses, floats like a butterfly at under 8lbs, stings like a bee with the stunning TV Jones PUP. Neck is hefty, but no more than old Precisions generally.
  20. Visually stunning, great playing, and great sounding late 80's/early 90's Tokai Jazzsound fretless Jazz, bought from eBay a while back and upgraded considerably, all pending the arrival of my FCS Jaco Jazz which is now here. It's a defret, and whilst the work at the fretlines wasn't perhaps the best (see pics, although don't get me wrong, it's not bad either), the neck is wonderfully finished both back (lightly oiled) and front (lightly varnished) and plays very very nicely, real 'worn in but not worn out' feel. The SD Weather Report PUPs cost over £200 (http://www.thomann.d..._pickup_set.htm) and are absolutely lovely, I'm tempted to drop them into the Jaco but think I'll just move the whole bass on as is. Reverse tuners, new Fender threaded saddle bridge, and new/unplayed Rotosound Solo Bass 45s which I find perfect for Jaco-esque tone without trashing the board. A few cosmetic issues such as the slight damage at the truss rod access, which of course would be easily covered with a pickguard if you wanted to un-Jaco it! The big question, how much better is the FCS Jazz than the Tokai? Answer, not a great deal, enough, but certainly not £2,000k enough if you get my meaning. If the Tokai was what came out of the box from Fender I certainly wouldn;t have been disappointed. Anyway, I'm keeping the Fender for a number of reasons, but if you came down and played both, you'd be hard pushed to find a huge difference. Both are pretty light, both feel beautifully played in, and both have that lovely vintage fretless Jazz tone, barky and burpy from the back, jazzy and smooth from the front. Collection from Canterbury or Aberystwyth or meet-up in London, or courier at buyer's expense in a usable if not especially sexy hard case. The FSC (reliced) in the pics is not for sale Chris
  21.
It's a look , pure and simple.
I'd add that It's a feel also. Some of the relics the FCS do don't look much different to a new bass until you're very close up, but they feel beautifully played in, and for many it's that combination of a new & reliable instrument with the feel and - in some cases - sound of a lovely vintage bass. Not all relics feel old of course, and plenty of new basses feel quite played in from the factory (my old EBMM ray with an oiled neck for example), but I know enough players who don't give a damn whether their bass looks new or old but who prefer to play reliced instruments to know that it's more than looks alone.
  22. There will be a Markbass 121P combo for sale very soon! Just down the road from me and I've been looking for the extension cab for a while so why not eh! Good to speak to you Ian C
  23.
The type of person they are looking for probably would not care about the grammar, those they want to scare off to save the embarresment of saying "no thanks grandpa" will not even reply, looking at this thread the plan is working just as planned
Ha ha, I've been there, and the guy - 17 years old - was so polite in saying essentially "You gotta be f*****g joking mate, you're older than my dad".
I agree with the sentiment but the thing about bass players is that they have to pretty much play all the song, and the all the others as well, so there is no hiding place. But sure, many bass players have the minimum competence in their band in quite a lot of bands that I see. And they get away with it, because some people don't want /require them to have much more..??
I agree, although I'll add that if you're an intuitive musician - that is you have a natural feel for timing, groove and other structural aspects of music generally - bass is probably one of the least technically demanding instruments at which you can be considered competent. It's also the instrument on which you are perhaps most likely to be found out if you're not an intuitive musician. Lead guitarists without a shred of musicality can achieve a lot through sheer hard work and technical ability, and lead guitarists without huge technical ability rarely get the gig. Plenty of the great bass lines however are played by players relatively low on technical skill but high on musicality. Perhaps the band in the opening thread want this type of player - a Simenon or a Wobble - with a feel for the music, as opposed to a technician. I don't get many consistent compliments for my playing, but the one I'm most happy to receive is that I rarely do more than the song needs, in fact a guitarist said last week "the great thing about your playing is that we don't notice when it's there, only when it's not there". I'm a pretty average and agricultural bass technician, but I believe a good musician, which is what matters. I doubt I'd ever get a gig on guitar despite being just as technically proficient on guitar as I am on bass. I also know quite a few very good musicians who can pick up a bass and humble me, they just choose to play other instruments in bands, which is lucky for me. In fact, to steal an idea from John Lennon, I'm in a four piece band, and three of the members are better bass players than me! You don't have to be good, you just have to be good enough for whatever the band needs.
