1.
Watts don't matter. You don't measure sound levels in watts, you measure it in decibels, and there's no direct correlation between the two. If there was a Vox AC30 wouldn't make your ears bleed from fifty feet away, nor would anyone be able to gig with an Ampeg B15. The simple fact of the matter is if you can't get the volume you want with one cab you need two cabs.
Yep, I had to sell my B-15 (25w) because it was far too loud for my needs (small studio), and far far louder than several other amps I've owned that were rated at over 10x the wattage.
What you've been told comes mainly from marketing departments, usually through advertising. So yes, lies.
Ha ha, that's about the truth of it
 2. Don't sell it Dan, you'll regret it mate
 3.
I can only imagine that the 4b is more expensive to make. It has 4 recesses on top into which the feet of a stacked cab fit (the C4 doesn't). The 4b is physically larger and substantially deeper, thus you would imagine it'd produce deeper lows. I've run upto 4 x 4b's with DB and never found it lacking in lows. In fact I've had more issues with taming the low end (especially at medium to high volume), and end up cutting the lows from about 80Hz to 100Hz typically. Had I not already bought the 4b's (before the C4 was ever released) I would've opted for the C4 instead.
I think the point about taming excessive bass is spot on, I always suspect that lighter cabs do this less well? What does 'deeper lows' mean in the context of the PJB specs that suggest the lighter cab goes lower
Thanks Chris, long time! That was my gut feeling i.e bigger, heavier=better. It's hard to get solid advice from dealers.Any view on a single 8x5" cab versus 2 no. 4 x 5". More flexible yes but I always need 4ohms for both my EA and AI heads.
Hey Julian, for me flexibility is king, especially given the weight and size of these (PS we're now back in Canterbury - in fact I'm doing beers with Ali Atkin as we speak - let's catch up sometime?)
 4. Frequency range and quality of tone are not one and the same mate. The lighter cheaper cab may theoretically go lower, but you need to ask how well it dies so and how relevant that extra range is in a gig situation. I'd go for the heavier cab myself, IME lightweight is always a compromise at one or more levels sound wise
 5. Oil it to taste - light enough to not even be felt is OK as long as it's there - but don't leave it totally bare
 6.
B E A U T Y
Thanks Pete. Folks, just back to the UK. The bass is still nicely packed in a very big cardboard box with lots of padding and ready to send. Given I'm able to stay home for a courier collection tomorrow, it could be with you by Tuesday.......
 7. I think that's my old bass, if so it's a glorious example. If not, there are at least two '79s with rosewood board! Either way, this is a rare beast and a lovely bass
 8.
You say the gods are telling you to keep it and there's a bunch of us telling ourselves the gods are intimating to us directly we should buy it 😉 Ahh the mind!
They're not doing any of us any favours are they Just to confirm folks, this is sale only, I keep receiving trade offers but it ain't going to happen - if I needed another bass I'd be keeping this one
 9. I will now put a few folks back in their misery The bass sold, was paid for and was about to be couriered when two and two were put together and it transpired that it had sold to an ex-member of BC who had been banned and had come back under an assumed name. For a number of reasons related to this I pulled the sale and refunded the buyer (Ped and iCastle are in possession of all of the details around this). So, one way or another, I suspect the gods are telling me to keep this lovely instrument. I'll leave it here for a little while as I know there was a lot of interest and because I still have a few more pre-CBS/70's/CS Precisions than any man should. However, having covered the cost of the DB, I'm quite happy to keep this if no-one jumps at it. I'll leave it at £1750 as frankly it seems a little petty to put the price back up again, even if it's less than I paid and less than the bass is worth. Chris
 10.
Is there? I've not seen any? I've seen a lovely pre-CBS Precision on here but no Jazz Basses.
My bad, on the phone and didn;t read the thread properly, no just Pre CBS Precisions here
 11.
Prices seems nuts at the moment. All at around the £10k to £12k mark!
You're looking in the wrong places, there's some on here way lower than that
 12. Withdrawn due to complete lack of interest and on account of my feeling guilty selling what has become something of a mainstay chez Beedster!
 13.
If I hadn't recently bought Chris's '57P this would be mine in a heartbeat, and no question that the CS '55 was the real looker of the two Bump for best bass FS at the moment
Thanks Greg, if my old '65 hadn't re-landed this would be going nowhere, so I blame you mate Putting a few folks out of their misery here, now sold
 14. Nothing sounds like this amp, nothing. However, it was TOO BLOODY LOUD for me! It's a great example of how one has to do one's homework. I wanted a great recording amp, and being a bass player am used to amps rated in the hundreds of watts. This is 25w, so I assumed it would be relatively quiet but toneful. Wrong. As is indicated above, is the equal of many amps rated at over 10 times that level. It's a great example of how good tone travels, and in many respects of just how used we as bassists have become to poor quality sound from otherwise 'high powered' amps. OK this is quite big and quite heavy, but neither are prohibitive, and I've played bigger and heavier amps that produce a quarter of the volume of this. A glorious amp, and I'm very glad you're happy with the tone and volume Chris, stick with it mate, nothing you play ever again will make you sound so good
 15.
https://instagram.com/p/BCTcSUauQR0/ Just in case anyone is wondering... Have also seen this handwriting in the pocket of a telecaster done for the same show. And my wife still hasn't forgiven me for selling this bass
Thanks Andy, appreciated, those are great pics (and please apologise to your wife mate). Chris
 16. Folks, I originally listed this bass at £2000, but dropped the price substantially on Monday this week because I needed to pay for my new DB. I've now sorted that from another source, so will be withdrawing the £1750 price on this bas this Friday (also in part because I won't be able to post it after that date for quite a while). Whilst I could do with the money, I'm more than happy to have it sitting around the place, and am not in a rush to sell it. Anyway, I thought I'd mention this as I know there's a couple of you think I might drop the price further. Trust me on this 100%, I won't, it will in fact go back up again, sorry Chris
 17.
Grrrr I know I should stop looking at this
It has that effect doesn't it
 18.
I'm so loving this bass.
Cheers mate, you should see it in the flesh, it's one of those rare example in which the photos really don't do it credit. FCS really did pull out all of the stops when they did this bass. I've put it back in the case and put the case under the bed, that way I don't keep looking at it and/or picking it up and playing it and questioning whether I'm doing the right thing by selling it
 19.
Heavy Equipment Flapping Trousers.
Ha ha, everything summed up perfectly
 20.
Well done Alex, I remember you first starting out with just an idea and messing about at home with designs and a theory. You've come a very long way from humble beginnings. It's a shame back then your enthusiasm and passion on here were misinterpreted. I hope you feel very proud of what you've accomplished and the best is probably yet to come!
+1
 21. A rather moody pic from Andy's original thread
 22.
From the other side of the fence I just view that as 'easy option first' customer service. Can't be bothered to actually provide you with what you ordered (ie an item that isn't damaged and is the spec you asked for) so they offer to give money as it's quicker/easier for them to deal with. Decent customer service would have been to arrange the return for you at zero cost and ensure the correct product arrived with you (in perfect condition) as swiftly and as pain-free as possible IMO. It's easy to throw money at a problem and hope it goes away. Which is fine it that's the outcome you want :-)
Yep, exactly my thoughts also
 23. Perhaps this isn't the best place to flog a vintage Gibson acoustic
 24. Just committed to a new DB so will take offers on this lovely bass
