1.
MB1. Topic Reopened.
Thanks Martin I've decided I need other things more than I need a five string, no matter how lovely it is. Trade wise I'm looking for bass with a stereo output and a cap on the back PUP. Otherwise it's good old fashioned cash only
 2.
It's whatever you feel comfortable with init.
That's the bottom line isn't it. No matter how cool we may think we look, someone somewhere thinks differently, just do what works for you. I used to have rather a crap beard. I liked it, made me feel good (no idea why). I used a pic with said beard on a webpage a few years back, to the unanimous verdict of "what an awful look" from friends, family etc. Now that beardiness is for some reason de rigueur in certain quarters, I am suddenly considered somewhat hip (or at least my photo is, the beard went in 2010 and would take about a year to grow back, by which time it won't of course be hip any more). Just easier to stay as you are really
 3.
Now, I guess this guy has money - so why did he have such a crap job done all in a colour that doesn't exist in nature?
If you look hard there are some clues in his past as to why he may have opted for this particular colour?
Maybe there was a party in the bar from the Bat Preservation Society? A difference of opinion surfaced, one thing led to another.... It happens all the time.
It's a good theory
 4.
In truth, we know nothing about what went down. Was Geezer being a drunken arse? Or was he heroically defending someone on the receiving end of some hassle? Who knows. It's a bit unfair to judge at this stage.
I totally agree, I doubt we can rely on the US media for an accurate version of events. Rock star, bar, alcohol, fight, police, detox; all the info a journo needs to write a story. Either way, even if he was a bad boy, we all have off days, I've a very good mate who is usually impeccably behaved found himself in the cell for a night after a pretty nasty bit of provocation in a bar led to a bit of fistycuffs. Luckily the CCTV bore out his side of events and led to the original accuser - who I'm guessing didn't realise he was on camera - being nicked. It happens, nothing to judge a man too harshly on.

 7. Just picked one of these up and really looking forward to using it. Anyone know if I can use both channels at once, specifically for a stereo Ric? I'm pretty sure that combining both channels from the mono output will get me close to the tone I'm after, but the two channel option would be ideal? C
 8. Among several things that worry me, what is going on at the dusty end of the fretboard, looks like a lump of plastic on my screen....?
 9. I've been buying stuff in Denmark St. since the early 80's and Wunjo's blew me away first time I walked in there and haven't disappointed since, I just wasn't expecting friendly, helpful and respectful staff in the street in question. Keep it up guys Chris
 10. PS anyone know where the white pickguard got to, would love to install it?
 11. Thanks all, greatly appreciated, you've likely saved me a few quid there Chris
 12. This has now been mine fro about a month and I have only one thing to say, Billy, why did you sell it, it is an absolute stunner, 100% Custom Shop quality, light as a feather and a dream to play. This is going to be my go to gigging bass for a while at least
 13. TI Jazz Flats are OK on through body bridges, La Bella Deep Talkers are not, and the Pyramids are somewhere between the two in terms of tension and stiffness. Having learned my lesson with the La Bellas (and why is it always the most expensive string that breaks), it seems best to ask. Before you ask there is no non-through option on the bass in question Cheers Chris
 14. Makes a difference on some basses and not on others. As has been said above it should be kept in mind that 'difference' does not always mean 'improvement'. Some bridges are an improvement simply because they allow better intonation, alignment or action, others because they link the surfaces better than the original perhaps allowing more sustain (or fewer energy losses), others because they actually do alter the tone. Either way, there's a whole lot of reasons why you'd change a bridge, but I've done it many times and I'd say that tonally there are often as many improvements going from a heavy and expensive bridge like a Badass II to a Fender BBOT as there are the opposite direction. A very good example for me is my 4003, on which the brass Hipshot version bridge to my mind takes something away from the Ric tone and sustain, despite facilitating far better intonation and string alignment. I'm sure the answer to the OP's question is quite simple, you'll never know until you try a certain bridge on a certain bass.
 15. Saw them when I was a student of electronic music in the early 80's. Definitive leaders of the genre, made Kraftwerk look like Jedward
 16.
Edit: I just remembered I also emailed Alex asking for a receipt/invoice for my cab & he's ignored that email too. totally craps,if my cab doesn't really impress me next Saturday he can have the sodding thing back !
I'll have it if you're not happy. I understand the O/P's POV, but I do wish that things were different. I work in a university in which, increasingly, the quality of the education that students receive is considered secondary to the quality of the customer service that students receive, and by customer service I mean the speed of response to emails as opposed to the quality of the response, the 'niceness' of feedback on coursework as opposed to the effectiveness of that feedback etc. In short, in my job increasingly appearances matter more than actuality, style matters more than substance, and it's consistent with so much elsewhere. Does a response to an email matter more than the quality of the product, no, not at all. I have a BF Compact and to be honest it works for me on so many levels that no amount of poor customer service from BF could undermine my happiness with the cab. I also bought a 69er from Alex a while back and it didn't work for me, and I told him so. What was his response "You can have a full refund". How many manufacturers work on that basis, very few (BTW the 69er was a great cab in every respect except for one particular aspect of the way I needed to use it which I hadn't really thought through fully when ordering). Neil, really hope you like the cab mate, but if not, I know how good they are so I'll have it for what you paid for it. C
 17. Hi Bazbass, welcome to the forum. Lovely bass that I expect most would agree is underpriced Cheers Chris
 18.
Ignore......
How many of these have each of us owned between us eh Marcus!
 19. Did this to mine a few years back, took months to get the finish off! Check out where it started though.... And after a few months of sandpaper... Great basses and as you say, one to keep
 20. These came with a recent purchase that has since been restored to passive. Can post pics if needs be but they're fully functional and in good cosmetic condition. Circuit is vol/blend/concentric bass/treble. Retro fits into a standard Jazz rout with battery in the same compartment (like J-Retro). Note in the pics below the pots are mounted on a piece of card! 21. Good condition, professionally filed saddle. 22.
I'd complete it Beedster, then do a comparison..... Sell if you must after that, but it'd be nice to see this EUB develop
Thanks Marc, wish I had the time to be honest. Anyway, last call on this or I'll be forced to build it and sell the SLB!
 23.
Isn't the Fender Hot Rod bass a PJ with blocks and that's a USA made model.
There's this in the CS line which is lovely (although this is a custom finish) OK, it's a Reggie Hamilton Sig albeit slightly better built than the MIM, but if you want a PJ-5 by Fender I think this is the only option.
 24.
Of course. Hey it's Fender trying something a little unusual and different not normally seen on a P of J. I don't quite get this "clueless" approach tho. It seems that anything Fender try differently is pretty much ridiculed on this forum. And if they don't try anything different its seen as the same old boring stuff. I get the impression tho that if it had Sadowsky or Lull on the headstock it would be taken quite differently. I think it will be interesting to see some of these models once the NAMM show is up and running and to see what the Custom Shop is doing this year.
I get the impression that rather than think hard about innovation, Fender just adopt a 'change for changes sake' approach. Compare them with EBMM, OK, some challenging designs, but often linked to genuine innovation. As for the Custom Shop, their Prototype series seems to be losing direction quickly, which is a shame.
