1. I've had many dealings with Howard over the years and he certainly isn't the sort of guy who'd rip you off. He often did work for virtually cost price, and the level of expertise, as well as support in terms of advice and experience that came along with every repair or build made each even better value. In short I strongly suspect that the current situation is serious and/or unavoidable, and that perhaps it's not really appropriate to keep this type of thread open if it's simply an opportunity for folks to moan and speculate (other threads relating to bass builders have been closed for less after all, mentioning no names). If people are posting here to wish Howard well and a speedy recovery, I'm of course all for it staying open. Look forward to seeing you back on BC soon Doc Chris
2. If you pay a seller and he transfers it his bank account leaving no funds in his paypal account it takes at least five working days for the payment to be returned. As I understand it this can be extended further in certain circumstances for example if you made the original payment directly from your bank account via paypal and not from funds held in your paypal account (ironically Ash this is what had happened to me when I was trying to buy that lovely old slab Precision body you had for sale). The only reason for all of this is to allow Paypal/banks to make shed loads of interest on tens of millions of pounds caught up in transactions at any one point in time of course, but they're businesses and that what businesses do I guess.
3.
It's a shame, love my TRB5PII and i wont let it go. I would love to find a TRB5P
TRB 5Pii is a hell of a bass for sure, how does it differ from the TRB5P?
4. I'll do this for £275 today only or it's going to stay at mine and I'll just have to bloody well learn how to use it! Chris
5. Offers before I sell this via eBay? Cheers Chris
6. PS as above I will post the head at buyer's risk and buyer's expense. It won't be cheap however as it is not light
7. Moving house on Friday so last call for this or I think it's going to stay put. Only trade I would consider is for a Markbass Minimark (the 2x8 version) with some cash my way (only half loud amp I've ever owned that can reasonably go in a rucksack, albeit a pretty large one. Wish I'd never sold my old one but that's the story of my life really) C
8. Undisputed winner of the Beedster "Best Bass on Basschat for Quite a While Award". Lovely.
9. I've owned both the SLB-100 and the SLB-200 and whilst the 200 has a lot going for it, if I had the choice I'd still buy the 100, it's a magnificent instrument, typical of Yamaha at their best, and with a second PUP to support the onboard PUP and circuit (which are designed largely to drive headphones - which they do very well - as opposed to being amplified for live use), probably as good an EUB as you'll get.
10. Hi Simon I have no idea to be honest, and not much time to go searching at the moment. I understand that one of the advantages of this PUP compared to other DB models is that you can, to an extent, tune it to your instrument by rotating it within the hole in the bridge (I'm not saying that you can't similarly fine tune other PUPs just that I haven't been able to do so to any significant degree with any that I've owned to date). I'd imagine on that basis that a decent arco tone will be achieved with some work, although of course the rotation/position of the PUP to get decent arco might be completely different to the rotation/positioning required to get a pleasing pizz. But that's amplifying DBs for ya! I guess the best bet is to try? Cheers Chris
11. This is still here but once I've moved house - which is imminent - I'll likely withdraw it from sale as it was largely the need for funds to pay the costs that I was selling it in the first place. To be honest, the costs have escalated so much that a few hundred quid here and there really makes little difference, and this really is one of the nicest basses I've ever owned
12.
Keep revisiting this thread, stopping myself and then revisiting again . My mate travels a lot as a sparky, let me see if he;s going anywhere near you in the near future. That head is calling me
Ha ha, it's still here but once I've moved house - which is imminent - I'll likely withdraw it from sale as it was largely the need for funds to pay the costs that I was selling it in the first place. 13. Had a few enquiries regarding splitting the rig so will take £475 for the head and £175 for the cab (both are USA built by the way). I would rather not post the head but will do so at buyer's expense and risk. Chris
14. Hi Keith, no, never got around to it, like most things DB at the moment! Hope al's well mate Chris
15. Bought from Clarky a while back and not really used. Original thread here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/237556-krivo-magnetic-pickup-sold/ £110 posted by Royal Mail Special Delivery Chris
16.
They have done this before!!
And isn't that Morten Harket wearing the 'phones?
17.
Thers one in warrington for sale for 380 no case but needs a fretdress. Pm me about yours tho mate i have cash
Hi mate, I won't match the price of the other as mine does have an original case and doesn't need a fret dress All joking aside it's way too good an instrument to let go for much less than the asking price, especially as you know I had the tuners sorted after buying it (in fact if I remember correctly you have actually played this very bass so you know how good it is) Cheers Chris
18.
Sitting there bold as brass between Tom Waits and Various Artists:
I'm embarrassed to admit that it sits between Tom Waits and Van Halen on mine (so so close to Van Morrison and all the associated Celtic credibility as well)
19. Thanks for the PMs on this rig guys, I'll answer the questions here if I may I will sell the rig for £600 and won't split, despite saying in an earlier post I would. I will split for a higher price. Part of the reason I'm selling it is that I need the space in the new house The gain control shaft has snapped off. It can be adjusted but it's a fiddle and i wouldn't want to have to do it in a hurry on a dark stage. It's not a pliers job, more a case of using a flat-faced screwdriver to tease it around. Ideally it will need a new pot installed although I'm sure a temporary fix could be sorted with some superglue or similar. The old V4Bs didn't have a gain control - master only - so I guess it's not a huge loss as much of the tubey feel of the head comes from the power stage anyway. I currently have gain set at a level so that through the active channel I get a lovely smooth tubey but clean tone and through the passive channel a little more grit that goes into distortion if I really dig in. This would vary from bass to bass of course. The cap of one of the tone controls has also come off. The control still works fine and to be honest I hadn't even noticed until a couple of days ago when I found Beedster Jnr 2 tugging away at it. It's now been moved to a less accessible location! I travel between Canterbury and Aberystwyth frequently so can arrange to meet up en route but would need payment ahead of travelling Chris
20.
Go on then. Is it modular? I have a bass with a P in it but it is not a P so the mounting holes are not P shaped. If it will fit the bill I will take it.
Hello mate, how are things? I'm not quite sure what you mean re modular. I think it would be a stretch to get it into anything in which the holes are more than a few cms shy of the standard Precision format. Perhaps you could post a pic or dimensions and we could work it out? Cheers Chris
