2. Most of the large scale online retailers are simply not close enough to their stock to know what they've got, they have to go by what's on the screen and bar codes, which can be wrong for so many reasons. The amount of times I've bought and paid for 'in stock' gear online only to get an email saying something like "Good news, your amp will be with you in July" is simply ridiculous. The only online dealer who can be trusted are Thomann, who are also generally the cheapest, most efficient, and most polite if you have to deal with an issue.
3.
"Can play a myriad of styles, basically speaking Jazz..." Calling Bilbo...
I've not met Bilbo so can't be sure, but whilst I can't quite put my finger on a specific reason, I'm guessing it might not be a trouble-free relationship?

7.
That must be the least inviting ad for a bass player I've ever read. Whoever wrote it comes across as a right ****.
To be honest, I think they know what they're looking for and have made the terms pretty clear. I'd rather than than what happened to me a few years ago which is that a band advertised for me, seriously, I met every criteria they stated, including the exact taste in 70's funk rock. I turned up to the audition to find a bunch of 16 year-olds who realised they'd forgotten to put 'must be 16' in their ad. I was 45 at the time. Shame, their setlist was awesome, but not only did they look like Hanson's kid brothers, they sounded like those f*****g awful cartoon chipmunks. Good luck to the band in the link, as Jack suggests, there'll be plenty for whom that is a great opportunity
8. Frankly Jack, I think your attitude stinks, I would have paid good money to see you in that band
9.
I'm glad you mentioned the Thwump as mine does that but other than that it's great. In addition to your uses, when I've been travelling light, I've used it really successfully with electric guitars that have active electronics too. PJB does make great sounding gear.
Thanks jazzyvee, I've used it with a Strat and it's not at all bad, but probably needs a box ahead of it to get any sort of grit. I suspect the best tone I've heard through this was an old 70's passive Yamaha Precision, if the source tone is good, the PJB tends to make it even better! Having said that, I've yet to hear a bass sound bad through it, even - surprisingly to my mind - my Ric strung with rounds was rather nice

11.
Cheers Beedster, I'll watch out for the Mackie's on eBay but I think the RME is out of my price range
I think the RME is not what you want though, sounds like a Mackie would be the answer to the question at the top.
12. ...RME Fireface 400, which I thought I might use more given its smaller size and ease of access etc (sits in a desktop rack), but it really doesn't get much use with the Mackie around.
13. There are some pretty good deals on USB mixers on eBay at the moment, IIRC there's a Mackie Onyx 1220i going very low. The whole Onyx series is very good (I use the 1640i which I love and which, once I got my head around getting it to talk to my iMac, has been trouble free for years). I also have a
14. Think I'll hold on to Clarkson for a while so thread closed I guess........
15. I've listed this in Amps and Cabs For Sale but it seems a good idea to list it here also. Phil Jones Briefcase http://philjonesbass...case-bass-combo, in my opinion the best of the small portable small gig combos and perfect for DB, especially as it can be carried to the gig at the same time as the DB. As you can see from the pics, It's in very good condition, albeit suffering from that odd little 'thwump' noise that around 50% of PJB gear makes when you switch it off. I've gigged this with DB about 20 times and about the same with acoustic bass, and it really is an outstanding little amp. I tend to stick it under a chair for DB gigs and most folks - including a few musicians on the stage - simply think they're hearing the natural sound of the DB and marvel at my ability to project Tone wise, it's beautifully transparent but, perhaps contradicting this, also appears to flatter the instrument. It also project nicely, even in some quite big rooms, and works well with electric bass, acoustic bass, acoustic guitar, mandolin and even electric fiddle. At £300 it's a bargain, new price is close to twice that I believe. 16. Interesting thread, the title of which is the exact same question I've been asking myself since A-Bing my DB750 with my B-15 and finding that the former fared pretty well, or at least well enough for me to question whether my assumption that, as my gigging days are largely behind me, I should keep the B-15 and let the DB750 and two DB112s go. Had the 750 not performed so well, it would have been a no brainer, my main interest now is going to be recording, and the B-15 is the definitive recording tool. However, it's not exactly a versatile gigging machine! Having said that, the DB750is perhaps not exactly a utilty gigging machine either (45lbs my a**e). So if the TH350 or TH500 might be good enough for the odd gig that pops up, I could sel the BD750 which, given the outlay I need to make, would allow me to keep the B-15 in the studio and take out a nice, albeit smaller Aggie rig, for the odd gig. So, obvious plan was to sell the 750 and buy the smaller head, taking about £500 on the deal towards studio build and gear. But..... If the DB750 records as well as the B-15, or close enough, perhaps the trick is simply to keep it and sell the B-15. That way I have a rig that works for both purposes and does both very well. So a couple of questions. Firstly, does the DB750 record well acoustically and via the XLR? I guess my point of reference here is the B-15 (I don't have my desk set up yet so am unable to record side by side for a while). Second, in terms of recording, how would the TH500 fare compared to the DB750, again both acoustically and via DI? It certainly seems that the TH fares 'well enough' in live applications? I hope the above makes sense? Cheers Chris
17. Thank you for your kind comments gentlemen, the rather attractive blonde is now sold and will be spending the foreseeable future in that London
18.
Jeez, I'd feel like Elvis with this bass........
I'd love to see you in a white one-piece rhinestone jumpsuit Greg
19. Dan, I suspect that if this was on eBay at a substantially higher price it would sell quickly? OK, it can be quite uncomfortable selling high value items via that route, but the risk can be pretty much mitigated through careful statement of T&Cs in the listing (and obviously if you provide a contact number people will try to deal direct). £6,000 for that bass? As Bacon would say "It's Sale of the f*****g Century"
20. Long queue for the Aggie gear so a quick bump for the apparently rather unnoticed yet very high quality PJB Briefcase at the top of this thread
21. You only have to start the process of identifying s favourite to realise just what an extraordinary talent he was. I agree with nearly all the selections so far!
22.
This is a lovely bass, with a nice warm sound that contrasts very well with the relatively bright velvets. Chris has had some great work done to get this bass in top condition. Best of luck with the sale, should make a nice DB for someone out there in need
Thanks Jason, i have to agree, it has a lovely tone that would not embarrass a far more expensive instrument. I've had a think about pricing on this bass and for a couple of reasons am going to revise it down to £800. Firstly, I was mislead by the label into believing it to be a 1960's English instrument when in fact the label was the importer not the builder; as Jason mentioned in his thread it is likely of Czech origin. Second, in arriving at £1000 I added what I paid for the bass to 2/3 the cost of the work I had done on the bass, and in doing so I'm not sure I've arrived at an entirely reasonable price. So, £800 it is. For that price it is a no-brainer to be honest
23. So how good was my recent deal with Roberto? F*****g awesome to be honest! Firstly the deal was a Chadwick Folding Bass, not often seen over here, and something of a dream instrument for me having seen them here and there over the years. Second, Roberto clearly had cold feet selling it - and for anyone who's played this is entirely understandable - but went through as agreed. Third, despite the fact it folds, it's not an easy thing to post 500 or so miles, but was packed absolutely perfectly to the point that not even Parcel Money could have damaged it (although it was sent via a much better service). Last but not least however, we agreed a price for the courier and as these things go, the actual cost was about twice what we agreed, but Roberto covered the whole fee without question or complaint. In short, I can't recommend or thank Roberto highly enough, a great instrument, a great deal and a great transaction. Deal with confidence folks. Chris
24. Man, that's a nice tour, and on stage as well, good stuff! Would love to catch the show but looks close to sold out already (3 seats left for Friday). Perhaps drop me a PM if you fancy a beer or two mate, it'll be a pleasure to welcome you to town. C
