1. Agreed, it does balance very well, very good feel. Have a good gig Keith C
 2.
This is very true - its not so bad standing but sitting and trying to get the fingerboard in the same angle as my DB involved making up a foam cradle. At the end of the day there probably is no substitute for a DB especially given the volume of a DB body but thats the thing EUBs are EUBs and not DBs!
I think this is where the SLB-100 wins, with the exception of the angle of the strings at the bridge, it really does feel like a DB to play (I won't comment on the sound, I notice Keith has replaced the electronics on his, and I used external PUPs - a wing at the bridge mixed with a Kent Armstrong mag on the fingerboard - on mine, the internal pre-amp was a disaster). My current EUB isn't quite as DBish in terms of body contour and weight etc as the SLB, but it sounds a whole lot better and I like the fact that it uses a real bridge.
 3.
The Yammy is an excellent instrument but also pretty pricey at around £3,000 ...ouch ! Theres the NS Design CR4 which has a great sound - but aesthetically and shape wise not the same as a DB . It has a long neck without D stop bouts. The Yammy is about as close as you will get. But you can also pick up a Stagg for around £200 which does have little aluminium frames to simulate the D stop and a hip support. Folds down pretty compact too and feels quite DB -ish ( I took one on a plane to Greece last summer and put it in the overhead locker!).
The SLB100 can be got for around £750 on eBay if you're patient, it's good but not £3k good. I disagree re the Stagg, IMO you'd be better off using an imaginary DB, the Stagg feels nothing like any DB I've ever played
 4.
I think an EUB would be better than nothing
Exactly
 5.
In my experience the EUB that feels closest to the real thing is the Yamaha SLB100 It was designed for classical players to practice in silence. I use one (with modified electrics) on many of my gigs in preference to an acoustic.
Totally agree, although the bridge is much shorter which can make a difference. My current EUB uses a normal DB bridge and on that basis is a great proxy for the real thing. SLB100 is a far better choice than most EUBs however
 6. I must add that I never found Markbass gear to have much presence or clout. Whilst their rigs and combos can sound absolutely lovely, it certainly wouldn't be my first choice gear-wise if I needed to be heard in a large band setting
 7. Good advice above (i.e., more speakers, auralax/isolation, more mids in the EQ, wireless to get some perspective etc), but you also need to speak to both the band and the audience. What you hear and even what the band hears are not want the audience hears, and neither is the sound on youtube unless it's recorded from the floor in a full room. Ask your bandmates and punters for their subjective opinion, ultimately sound is subjectively experienced and no amount of objective attention to detail will overcome that fact.
 8. Not bought anything from Dingus, but I will say that on the basis of the very thoughtful, intelligent and generous PM he recently sent me, he's clearly a 100% top guy wh knows his stuff, and I certainly wouldn't hesitate to deal with him should the opportunity arise Cheers mate C
 9.
I need a backup for my 424x, I wonder if this would be up to the job?
Take a wild guess Ben.....
 10.
I was really sceptical about these until I actually played one. So much nicer than I imagined, a really top quality instrument!
Likewise, I was sceptical about this and about Yamaha generally, but man they know how to build a bass. IMO nothing Fender have done gets even close to this instrument, and I've played a lot of top end Fenders. I may have found a way of keeping both this bass as well as its proposed 4001 replacement which would be ideal, just waiting for confirmation of a gig (of sorts!) C
 11.
Is the neck closer to a P or J bass? Beautiful bass btw
Probably closer to a Precision, I'll try to post exact width and depth dimensions later
 12.
I own and have owned all kinds of high-end, upmarket basses of various types, and these basses really are up their with the very best of them. Think NYC Sadowsky/ USA Lakland/ Aleeva Coppollo / F Bass kind of quality, both in terms of sound and build , and you are getting some idea of the kind of level these instruments are on . They really are one of the best basses that money can buy, and as such are a bit of a bargain even at the full retail price. This is a mint condition example with a known ownership history of being well looked- after and hardly used , and with the added appeal of being the incredibly rare MX version with a maple fingerboard, all at a very reasonable price . As such, this bass will make some new owner very happy rather soon, I expect. One of the best and most appealing basses I have ever seen for sale on Basschat. GLWTS.
Many thanks Dingus, goes without saying that I agree with all of the above I'd certainly put this bass well above the two Sadowsky Metro Precisions which I guess would put them in Sadowsky NYC league, and in terms of leagues, it's in an entirely different one to the Fender Custom Shop basses you'd find in a similar price range. This bass really is a wolf in sheep's clothing (TBH I've found most FCSs I've owned to be sheep in wolf's clothing by comparison) C

 14.
stunning beedster stunning!
Thanks Luke, it's both a looker and a player. I've had a few PMs re trades. With apologies I definitely DO NOT want any more basses, I'm happy to arrange a deal with a decent, small but relatively high power combo (e.g., Markbass 1x12/1x15, PJB Super Flightcase, Mesa Walkabout, Ibanez Promethean) with cash my way. Cheers Chris
 15.
I personally think that Yamaha have created the ultimate (mass produced) P bass with the latest BB series.
I think this bass challenges the whole concept of 'mass produced' to be honest
 16.
Until Chris posts a pic or two, I stand by my opinion that Yams are bloated and ugly, except perhaps the white ones, for some reason they look really nice. Just too big and bulky looking for me though
I don't think bloated and ugly is fair really (note, these taken on iPhone in 3 minute gap between dealing with full scale assault on Daddy by daughters, several Peppa Pigs, a stripy dinosaur and what appears to be a snail with legs)
 17. I've just played it. I've owned a lot of decent basses - Fender AVs and Custom Shop, Sadowskys, Ric C64S and v63, Modulus Fleas, EBMM BFR Stingray, as well as a lot of vintage instruments (Pre CBS Precisions, Pre EB Stingrays etc). I can say hand on heart that this really is an outstanding bass even compared with the list above. I now need to sell it to fund a couple of other music related projects. Wish I didn't C
