I suspect if we look at the lyrics of a lot of songs, undercurrents re bandmates or rival bands will appear 👍

U2 tribute band needs new bassist, a question for you all

Now you have the gig this is a no-brainer https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176614163712?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=FOG9Z1W2SD2&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=155UlNbXQGW&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY -
Mmm, I like the sentiment but disagree with it being 'wrong' Nik. Creativity is sparked by emotion, and emotion is sparked by both positive and negative events. I think back through the history of music and I see diss tracks everywhere, at least tracks in which an artist has a transparent pop at another person quite openly. Possibly the most famous is 'You're So Vain' by Carly Simon (poor old Warren Beatty), but Neil Young v Lynyrd Skynyrd in the Alabama/Sweet Home Alabama debate, there's Silly Love Songs by Macca that was a direct response to a line in a Lennon track (and apparently Lennon & McCartney were at it a lot in relation to each other in their post-Beatles repertoire). Morrissey and Pet Shop Boys weren't averse to the occasional dig either. I've just read this book and it makes it very clear that the verbal/lyrical competition between sound systems in Jamaica and UK was a key player in the development of reggae. In short, it's use in rap/hip-hop is not new, in fact it's just normal human expression via music, and if it helped Lennon & McCartney, Neil Young, and reggae, I'm fine with it 👍

Depends what you're wanting to do mate. If the band are real fans, they might recognise it, but whether it works might depend on what image the rest of them have. I think the relic Precision is a far safer and more versatile bet; frankly pretty much any 3tsb or even natural Precision with a maple neck can be cheaply and quickly modified to look like that bass, and if necessary returned to stock within minutes. Purple sparkly needs you to to source, and probably pay over the odds for, a unique and potentially not easy to sell, instrument. And it looks shite -

Slighty sanitised tribute version. Can only assume to remaining pickguard covers the PUP-control wiring cavity, and leads to/joins an EBMM Sabre-style control plate. This version to my eye does the job without the need for gaffa tape that, frankly, would be trying just a little too hard! perhaps there's a little too much relicing by comparison with the photo above, but there are later photos where the finish does appear to be largely gone -
IIRC the original line to The Real Me was played in a single take which JE was sure Townsend would reject as being overly complex and disorganised Man, what a take......
-
WTF is the story with that guy, seems to have a lot of instruments with a greater or lesser connection to some well known musicians but at mad prices. Is it money laundering?
-
JE's a player I understand. If I had those songs put to me, those are the lines I'd play, at least the technically simpler ones. I'd love to be able to think like Flea or Zender or many of the great funk players, or play fretless as lyrically as Bakithi Kamalo or Mick Karn, or just hold it al down like Deacon or Macca, but I think at heart I'm an ill disciplined rock player, and the sheer joy I get from playing JE's lines makes this bass 100% worth it, one thing I am sure of is that it is going to have very little trouble finding its way through the mix 👍

Let's do it 👍

So I have a set of DR Lo Riders lined up, purely because last time i used them on a graphite neck they went very very low without problems, so I'm going to start there and see the lie of the land tone and playability wise. Next few weeks I'm going to be spending some time with my cherished copy of this I imagine.....

Two B2s next to each other in Google search Which, via planes, takes us back to basses

Al's an absolute star, great to finally meet, sorry it wasn't for a more substantial period of time. Next time mate 👍
-
And I'm so sorry to have had so little time Al, would have loved to have shared a bite and a beer mate, perhaps next time. Hope you enjoy that bass and that especially lovely neck 👍

I think a BC Bash at Duxford and Cosford in in order? We tend to hit the Folkestone show each year as my wife's Mum live's right under it, and two or three years back they had a Victor. Man, it was impressive, not Vulcan impressive, but up there. Those Cold War designs were extraordinary

I'm more interested in the fact that a performer is suing his own record company for the fact that he doesn't sell as much as one of his rivals. Whether we like the music in question or not, it strikes me as another nail in the coffin of the music industry. Each new nail results in an increasingly risk-averse music industry, and an increase in the promotion of safe, generic, offend nobody & please everybody, dull music (more Ed Sheeran essentially)

Depending on when the audition is I'll do you one at cost, and it really won't be much, certainly less than a new Squier 👍 -

Do a bitsa version of the one in the photo, easy and cheap to do, it's a PBass so all you need for it to sound decent is a decent PUP and tuners that hold. Most of my bitsas - and FFS I have made a lot of the bloody things - were cheap and pretty decent by comparison with even used prices for equivalent quality instruments 👍 -

It's why I didn't get famous, zero sum game between me and bloody Pastorius
-
Exactly..... In the old days they used to write (often quite clever) diss tracks that made them both shitloads of cash. Fast forwards and Drake's suing his own record company - essentially because his diss tracks sold less well than Lamar's diss tracks - so he (Drake), and possibly both, are about to lose shitloads of cash? But interesting that the allaged slander/libel (never sure which is which), isn;t the subject of the case......?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cje08q8qnzqo I have my own theory as to the why and the what here but it potentially sets an interesting precedent?

When in the US I rhyme it with manger, as in ‘away in a….’ In France I rhyme it with manger as in ‘Pret a…’ In the UK I rhyme it with hanger as do all proper English speakingers 👍

They just don't make 'em like this anymore......
