1. Hey Justin, nice clips, many thanks, I really like the tone (and there's nothing wrong with your playing or talent mate). C
 2.
HNY to you too Chris. Seriously, this is an excellent combo that will work superbly well with virtually all basses. GLWTS matey
Cheers mate, back in the SE in a few weeks time so hoping to catch your band live soon C
 3.
You mean every thread should end on post #84? Fascinating.
#83 Although perhaps someone should audit previous threads to determine whether they do in fact peak in the mid 80's (unlike Clapton)?
 4.
Civilisation beckons again ?
Ha ha, indeed it does John, just have to admit that i don't have what it takes to live miles from almost everything! Looking forward to being able to walk to gigs again, bass on my back, head in one had, cab in the other. Hope the Bassman's working out for you mate, all the best for 2014 Chris
 5. Can't help thinking that this is the best bass for sale on here at present. Michael, if you fancy a maple fretless Precision, give me a shout
 6.
Some cheap Squiers are great. So are some Ritters - get over it. Oh and I don't care what you think of the paint job on barefaced cabs and don't have any strong opinions either way on the beatles.
And that's where this thread - and many others - should conclude
 7.
I don't have a Squier to compare with but I have listened to a '61P up against a modern Lull P fitted with the same strings and they sounded really different. There's a loose similarity in the core P bass sound but the general tone was quite distinct between the two. Couldn't really say which I preferred (although I'd like to own both!), lol.
You might find that the Squier sounds closer to the '61 than you'd expect. Wouldn't look, feel, smell (or cost) the same mind
 8.
My point was that the sound people are usually going for with flats is a sound that came out of simple tech and the quality of cheap gear these days is good enough to get that sound.
I think that to an extent you're right, a modern Squier Precision with flats will sound much the same as a Fender Custom Shop Precision with flats (and dare I say, a pre-CBS with flats). I'm not sure it holds true in all cases though, and I'm also not convinced that the same isn't true with rounds? But on other basses, the differences can be quite profound, and perhaps those differences are a function of the electronics, materials and build quality of more up-market instruments?
 9.
This is one fab amp. It's light, versatile and high quality. Sounded great with my double bass and Fender basses, just not quite enough EQ for my BabyBass which needs high mids squashed as it's a singular instrument. Fine price for a superb conbio that works well with most basses (just not my BB!)
Thanks Clarky, happy new year mate. It's actually a very very good amp irrespective of it's size and weight, and sounds gorgeous with all of my basses and both DBs. Whilst you needed a slightly more sensitive EQ, I wish more amps came with such simple yet effective tone controls (the only amp that comes close to it in this respect is the Mesa Walkabout with it's 3-band para). Had I not just bought this http://basschat.co.uk/topic/225523-bargain-phil-jones-pjb-m500-6t-9b-cabs/page__fromsearch__1 it would be staying, and if some of my studio gear sells I may keep it anyway! Cheers Chris
 10.
You're right, it seems Molan thinks it's hilarious. I sometimes wish I was so easily amused.
I think it's a logical assumption (flats being a WOT on a decent bass) until you try it. I was, to say the least, really surprised when I heard them on my Flea. Flats appear to sit in a rather retro/tame/vintage place on BC, I've heard that they're harder to play, that you can't play slap on them, that they don't work on active basses, and that they have no highs, all of which are wrong. The range of character, tone, frequency response, gauge, and tension of flats means that you probably can't generalise about them as a category anyway. In short, it was an understandable attitude
 11.
This lucky seller has his post almost permanantly bumped to the top!
I doubt it's doing him or the sale any favours though. I think the original point's been sufficiently made now, and it's worth pointing out that he wouldn't be the first person to begin somewhat inauspiciously only to become one of the key members of BC.
 12.
Think that's probably a Fireface rather than a Firefox fella
I suspect you're probably right, must speak to my therapist about my fixation with dodgy 80's movies
 13. Recently bought from Clarky specifically for DB. I'd love to keep it but incoming (and large) Phil Jones rig is going to have to work for both DB and electric bass for a while. Original listing at http://basschat.co.u...-sold-pending/. In original box with all documents. Have to say that it's a revelation, both for power and tone. I specifically love the simplicity of the controls - no tone controls as such, just Level, and the lovely Markbass VLE and VPF filters. Great amp for electric and DB. Moving on a lot of gear pending a house move so will be linking to pics on Photobucket once I've written all the listings. C
 14. House move means I'm letting quite a lot of music gear go over the next couple of weeks. These would require collection form mid-Wales or Canterbury, Kent. 16. Hi Rio, still sitting at our guitarist's house in Cobham, Surrey. I'll be moving house soon so may well be either keeping it or ebaying it with a load of other studio/music gear. I'll let you know Cheers C
 17. IME the majority of acoustic basses are not usable as purely acoustic instruments, and if you are buying one on which to practice, an unplugged electric bass is often as good. Many of the circuits in the cheaper acoustic basses also leave them sounding like a cheap electric bass when amplified.
 18.
Flats offer a different range of sounds, rather than a limited range, and take you into a different kind of playability.
This. Flats on my '97 Modulus Flea were a revelation, an incredible tone, and one completely unavailable with rounds. Same is true in varying degrees with flats on my 'Rays, Rics and Precisions. The only comparison I can think of is that of nylon and steel string guitars, the tone of a good nylon string guitar is wonderful and completely impossible to achieve with steels. Folks who assume that flats/nylons sound similar to old/worn rounds/steels need to listen more closely. It's a matter of quality (tonal character) not quantity (tonal range).
 19.
Did you correct him on his feedback technique?
This
 20.
When did you find out? If it was clear when the booking was made then I suppose you are contractually obliged - but if you only found out today - I would tell them to go look for another band, at one day's notice
+1, unless it's a massive earner or you're letting down fans, don't do the gig C
