1.
Forget the wait, what's the weight?
Picking it out of the case it felt light to me Jack, perhaps moderate weight for most other players I'd guess (I kinda like heavy basses, which given I also like 70's Precisions isn't a bad thing, and even my 70's hardtail ash-bodied Strat weighs more than my MIJ Precision). C
2. Bump for the SVP at £250, a very good price for a lovely pre. I have both a Tech 21 VT Bass and an incoming Ampeg vintage RI head, so much as I'd like to keep the SVP, it's going
3.
Is it all original?
I'm not sure I want to pull it apart just yet Mark. The seller provided both the original receipt (it was £265 new in 1980) and a more recent one from NKRV stating all original. Whilst the finish on both body and neck is to my eye suspiciously good for both a 35 year old bass and a 70's Fender, the markings on the body under the bridge cover suggest that it's certainly either the original finish or a very old refin, which IME is unlikely on a bass of this particular era. In short, I may not only have a Monday morning late 70's Fender, but one that's clearly been either very well looked after or left in its case for the last 30-something years. And of course, I may not! I'm going to have to take a few things off and poke around when I have some time C
4. I've been really missing fretless so had arranged to buy back one of my ex fretless Precisions, but when that deal fell through I saw this on eBay and had to go for it. I've always loved maple fretless necks and this thing not only looks the nuts but plays like a dream. Bought as 'all original' - if it is, it's the best 70's Fender finish I've seen or played, it's lightweight, the heel and pocket are within millionths of a cm in width, the finish is almost Simms-esque, and it sings. Better pics to follow but you'll get the idea.... EDIT: more pics as promised And just to prove it's legit...
5. He's only asking £195 so hardly pulling the con of the century
6.
Beedster and Clarky in non-trade shocker, the sequel
Folks gonna start talking
7.
Piano players only take one (electric) piano, gutiarists one guitar, trumpeters one trumpet, vocalists one PA and so on. Why do bass players feel that have to prepare for alien invasion and the likelihood of a tsunamis when no-one else does?
Guitarists only take one guitar? I'd love to be in that band
8.
There's two Yamaha SLB200s in the for sale forum......
Thanks Rev, yes, a bit pricey for me to be honest. I find on here than if you post a wanted ad all sorts of weird stuff appears, so I'm hoping something suitable priced and suitable interesting will come up. Cheers C
9.
I remember my girlfriend (now wife) being totally unimpressed when I told her shed have to sit in the back, because my db took up the whole passenger side of my car.
Hey, at least she got to go to the gig. Or did your DB just go everywhere with you, in which case yes, she had a point
10. Damn, found a design flaw in the Nissan X-Trail. Gear stick is positioned where double bass lower bout goes
11. Bingo........
12. Ha ha, we think we might have sorted it - bass on front passenger seat sticking out of the sun roof (I'm kinda hoping there's no low bridges on the way). If it happens I will of course post pics
13. It's a nice day here and earlier on I was offered a sit-in with a local singer-songwriter for an outdoor afternooner at a local pub. Great, said yes, then realised that now that the family is a four-piece, they and the DB are no longer going to fit in the car at the same time, and whilst I love gigging, I love it even more if the girls are there (OK, I'm aware that wiser heads will indicate that this is a situation that might change over the coming years). So, had to turn it down, although we're still going along to have a beer or two and listen to the music. So, I've posted in Items Wanted - but thought I'd also mention here - that I might be on the lookout for an EUB or travel DB! Enjoy your bank holidays all C
14. Bought recently for DB gigs, but having just picked up the residue of the ex-band's PA gear I have some rather nice powered monitors that can do the same job, albeit with an acoustic pre-amp in front of it. This will also free up some cash from my incoming Ampeg/Barefaced EB gig rig (the monitors end-to-end make a lovely vertical 2x12 and sound a lot better than I thought would be the case). Re the combo, it's a Walkabout, which says it all, but unlike the others, the colour scheme on this one is sexy as ........! Original thread here http://basschat.co.u...1#entry2112117. Pete (whatever), who's an absolute gent and packaged this baby well enough for it to have survived even Parcel Monkey (who we didn't use, but you get the idea), has clearly looked after the unit very well and it's in perfect working and aesthetic order. I'll take some more pics later as to my eye it looks a little washed out in the pics in the original thread Chris PS sorry, I'm not interested in trades unless it's for a moderate power (100-200w) all-tube head or a good quality EUB
15. The SVT's now sold, the SVP is available at £250, which seems a fair price?
16.
Just noticed this too late...... Lovely rig, which I only moved on as I was DI-ing. I'd always meant to pair the SVT-300 with an Aguilar DB680 pre - what a rig that would have been - but the SVP is a very nice pre-amp indeed, great in the studio too. Greg
Thanks Greg, I'm still loving the MK-35, hope the same's true with the SJ-200? The SVT is simply too big and too loud for me so I'm downgrading to something slightly less manly! Hope all's well down in the Urban South! C
17. Hat plus floor staring
18.
One of the tube experts on Talkbass has mentioned an issue with plate voltage and keeping to the original design. It'll be well over £1000 over here...may as well get an Orange.
Hey mate, do you have a link to the TB thread, couldn't find it? Cheers C
19.
Still can't find any info on the 'new' v4b
Seems to be quite a lot of it out there although AFAIK they're not in the shops yet. SVT-300 sold pending the usual. SVP still up for grabs C
20. Now for sale as I may have found an all-tube Ampeg replacement, albeit of slightly lower power output
