1. Now for sale as I may have found an all-tube Ampeg replacement, albeit of slightly lower power output
 2. I'd happily trade my SVT-300/SVP-Pro for one, the 300's got way more than I need
 3.
Is 100W of tube power enough to gig with? Cheers.
Yes, depending on what the rest of the band are using and what cab(s) you're using. I'd love a decent 100w all tube head
 4. In case anyone's interested, the Tech 21 VT going into the Ampeg SVT-300 sounds massive and makes it a whole lot easier to dial in a tone that using the SVP-Pro. Clean out of the VT but pushing the power stage sounds absolutely lovely
 5. The answer to every bass question is a Precision strung with flats. All joking aside, there'll be less antagonism between guitar and bass and less string noise with the P/flats than with a Jazz/rounds. Having said that, the only factor in your decision should be which sound you prefer, so try both Chris
 6.
Well..... The Svt would be a race tuned Dakar rally land rover pickup, and the Mesa would be a Porsche 911 turbo lemans ( in my blind eyes)
Ah, I see, Just realised that had I read you original post I might have been able to read between the lines and infer the link to a certain US manufacturer also
 7.
Blood and sand! Sorry Chris.....mind you, it wouldn't have surprised me if young Clarky had owned it, as you said :-) Forgot about the 4ohm load into the 2 eights. That puts me out of the running then. John
It might run that low (2ohm), but if i were going to do it I'd either be very careful or replace the drivers in the combo for an 8ohm load first C
 8.
Ooooh! If you ever think of splitting the extension cab, let me know. I now have Clarky's 2x8 combo. I'm in south west so not too far. John
Clarky's............? This is one of the few things I've owned that hasn't also been owned by Mark Keep in mind John that your is 4ohm having had a driver upgrade. Not sure if the head will run below 4ohm comfortably, but at least you're getting the full output into the current drivers C
 9.
Thanks guys, i've dropped him an email, fingers crossed something will be sorted out. I really dont want to have to pay for a whole new circuit if it can in any way be avoided :S
John will sort it for you, he's a top guy C
 10. Ha ha, if I knew anything about engines I'd have really appreciated the analogy So, give me an example of a car which is a Mesa and one which is an Ampeg?
 11.
I might take the db for its maiden live gig!
Do it, perfect opportunity
 12.
thinner strings does not always mean less tension in the neck, or not enough to make a noticeable difference. I'd loosen the strings and see if the neck settles down to something relatively flat, and then tighten the trussrod (a little) in that position. As it is, you're tightening it against the tension that the strings are creating. Slacken them, and it should be easier to adjust. Alternatively, Stew-Mac recommend clamping the neck into the position you want (with the strings at tension, I think) and adjusting the rod then.
Good point re tension, so yes, slacken off the existing strings and evaluate any change before buying lighter/lower tension set.
 13.
If lighter strings were put on and there is still the same bow...?
I've never known that to happen
 14. At the end of the worst gig I've ever done on DB (crap timing, crap intonation, crap tone*), a guy came up to me and said I was the bassist he'd been looking for for his new Jazz Trio. Make of that what you will, but don't get too hung up on technicalities. EB and DB are very different beasts and audiences have totally different expectations of them C *Reminds me of the old Richie Benuad quote "There's only three things wrong with English cricket, they can't bat, they can't bowl, and they can't field"
 15.
i have one of these. Cadillac of valve power amps I'm actually tempted to get it myself so i can run an elecrostatic stereo hifi all valve, at proper power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MEAT
+1, used to think it was the Mesa Strategy, but this thing has so much more character.
 16.
Pretty sure it isn't luck that provides my income.
I think it still works if you're businesslike about it, there has been a wholesale transition from small private user to large business user. If you're clever (which of course t goes without saying...), you still win
I did a small experiment where i sold 20 similar items for the same total price. 10 were sold for £5 including free postage and 10 were sold for £3.80 + £1.20 postage. I sold much less of the items where postage was free. I know this is not a scientific experiment but people are well aware that when there is free P+P they know full well that they are paying for it.
That's better science than a lot of the crap that makes it into the newspapers and onto TV
 17.
Thanks for help. Had another go tonight of loosening it and it is doesn't really budge in either direction, so last chance saloon will try WD40 if that no worky, then it's probably a repair job (at some point). Still I'm happy with the bass and warts and all was a good trade.
Lighter strings
 18. I'd not try any of the above until I'd tried some lighter strings on it C
 19.
....or that someone has access to data that they shouldn't have.
That's the conclusion I came to. As I said, could be pure coincidence. In fact it probably is coincidence, as the alternative explanation is either that Paypal's data security is very poor, or that they pass on lists of members to third parties and that those third parties have very poor data security). However, in the three months since I closed the account I've received no spam/fraud emails. Coincidentally, in the same time, I've received no phone calls from my bank asking whether I was in a shop in Bangkok attempting to pay for a Maserati, which was also a pretty regular event (Bangkok/Maserati's weren't specifically regular, but the calls from Fraud Protection were).
 20.
I think most people are internet 'savvy' enough not to fall for 'You must be resetting your accountings passwods or your account will be shutted' messages, but I bet a fair few of them would fall for fake Ebay messages because it's not their bank account and isn't instantly perceived to need the same degree of care and attention.
I haven't received one fake eBay or Paypal email since closing my account, I used to get them all the time, i.e., several per week. Could be complete coincidence of course?
 21.
+1 This is good advice. You really don't want PayPal to have access to your funds. They're a total pain in the arse.
There's also the suggestion that your bank account is more vulnerable to hacking via Paypal than via normal online banking. No idea if it's true but I've seen it suggested several times
 22.
I only just got my money back but it was refunded to my PayPal account rather than the bank account it came from.
And they play the game there also, it takes about two weeks to get a refund, and then you have to transfer it back to your bank taking more time still. Far worse than banks
 23. Bought from Shaggy (original post at http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1610818). I'll post new pics later tomorrow. I thought I'd want to try numerous preamps (I have a few) but I played this combination and realised it's perfect, no more messing about (well, you know what I mean). However, for gigging, I'd prefer a straight forward head as opposed to separate pre/power stages, and would perhaps prefer something slightly lighter and less powerful (I do not need 300w of Ampeg tubes). Therefore I'm happy for a straight trade despite the risk of financial loss my way. Rack case and LEDs included of course. I'd consider splitting. Chris
 24.
eBay sucks giant hairy moose balls. Everything is biased towards buyers, yet it's the sellers who enable eBay's huge profits. PayPal gets on my tits, too - can you imagine any proper bank freezing your assets on a whim for seven days and with no good reason? Bastards.
You're lucky it was only 7 days, they had £400 of my cash for almost two months. They then tried to deduct it again (in error, which at least they admitted). If you have a Paypal account, do NOT connect it to a bank account with anything more than a few quid in it
 25. Bound to happen as people were selling at low BIN but charging a fortune for postage to get around the fees. ebay have got very greedy and are now only really viable for businesses or people with loads of crap to sell, you just lose too much money selling there at the moment.
