1. Hello Si Given what you've said above and what's been said in various threads on here previously, I think the consensus would be that you need to send it back. My M500 was very quiet, certainly compared to my Flightcase which went back as described in the thread Michael linked to above. Hope it all works out, keep us posted Chris
2. All now sorted, new PUP selector switch installed, so back for sale. If this goes I keep the BB1200 and vice versa. Really can't decide between the two of them at the moment! Only trade option us a MIJ BB2000 with cash my way Chris
3. Reminiscent of a mid-50's Eastern Block housing project in some photos though
4. Thanks WB. Yes, myself and the sender were a little surprised, and to their credit the courier company provided some compensation. It's testimony to PJB gear that it still works perfectly. It's a great little rig. It's either this or my AER going, and if the latter sells first, I won't be too unhappy about this staying. It's great for DB but exceptionally and surprisingly good for electric bass also, which I wasn't really expecting to be he case.
5.
Can this be linked up to a passive cab through the line out or is it like the amp one and needs a powered extension cab?
Hi Chris Unless I'm missing something, the latter. C
6. Cables, made by Phil Jones, what can I say other than that they're very nice (and very heavy)
7. This is a bargain rig that I will keep if my AER sells. The cab was couriered to me and suffered a drop (bless those couriers and their delicate dispositions), so the bottom has been damaged. It sits fine with the foam supports I use, but won't sit fine on wheels. The D200 is a recent acquisition that - given its size - is ludicrously powerful and clean. I've gigged this rig it several times without problem, and to be honest I actually prefer the tone with the D-200 to that I was getting with the M-500, I've no idea if the two are voiced differently, but c'est la vie. I can't split as I'm in a 'if this rig sells then I won't sell the other one' situation, but trust me, you won't find many more hi-fi rigs than this at this prices. 8. Bought to add to my Mandolin options but sounds strangely similar to my Ovation - which given the Ovation is the much sought after USA built MM68 is quite a compliment - so it's off again. Funny looking thing but apparently hockey stick headstocks are so hot right now Will be posted in the rather lovely and diminutive Fender cardboard mandolin box
9. A menacing presence in my music room. 300w in old money. With this you can play Glasto without leaving Camden. Sold a year or so ago but the buyer never managed to collect (couldn't get a truck), so refund on its way to him, and I guess his bad luck is your good opportunity. Don't buy this if you play pub gigs, but if you're playing stages and need real presence, you know the score. COLLECTION ONLY FROM CANTERBURY OR ABERYSTWYTH
10.
You could cause me some serious marital problems advertising this little beauty, time to speak to the boss!
Ha ha, same here mate, I might sell the rest of my PJB stuff - which was going to be my practice/rehearsal kit - and keep this, but you know how it is! Chris
11. I don't often post this sort of thing, but I just want to say that Gary went above and beyond, and in a situation in which he or Promenade most certainly were not duty bound to. This is even more noteworthy given that I've never even been into the shop, and I've never actually bought anything from them. I won't go into details re what they did for me, but Promenade will be on my A-list from now on, and I'll most certainly be popping in to shake Gary by the hand next time I'm up that way. Chris
12. Can't believe you're selling it Stuart
13. Bloody lovely combo that was a recent purchase just ahead of a rather serious rethink of my priorities (bass and life), hence now up for sale with a lot of my other gear. Original listing here http://basschat.co.u...1#entry2479306. I've not used it much but it is very impressive (as the Ed Friedland clip in the original thread suggests), even more so given its size. Size, weight and power wise I'd put it in the same category as a Mesa Walkabout 12 (although it's probably somewhat lighter than the Mesa), but this is a far more transparent and hifi unit. Probably sits somewhere between Phil Jones and Markbass on the transparency/tone spectrum, albeit with better bess response than either to my ear. Bespoke cover included, postage £20 or thereabouts Chris
14. Quick response to some PMs. The battery issue is a non-issue, it just needs a new plastic battery sleeve inside the compartment and I simply haven't got around to doing this yet. It does not affect the preamp or function in any way, if it wasn't for the fact that I ran the cable outside of the unit you wouldn't know there was a problem. Second, I cannot post so this is collection or meet up only, sorry if this is harsh but I have my reasons and I'm sticking to this. If meet up I'd need payment ahead of travelling. Cheers Chris
15.
If I hadn't just incurred a walletfull of car repair bills, I'd have snapped this up! Fantastic instrument. I used to own the slightly larger SLB100 model, and I still miss it. Whoever grabs this will love it!
Thanks Kevin, hope all's well. Cars eh Having owned this and the SLB-100 - and despite Yamaha's rather odd retail price policy in relation to the two - the 200 is a substantially better instrument on all fronts, better tone, better playability and, importantly given the nature of EUBs, far better portability. I did like the 100 but boy it was big, heavy and sounded pretty awful through the stock preamp. The 200 suffers from none of those issues C C
16. Bump for pics which I had completely forgotten to post Having just checked it over and played it, I an't overstate what a fantastic instrument this is, typical Yamaha quality and attention to detail, and a great portable backup/electric solution for the serious DB player or the bass guitarist wanting a high quality upright instrument. I picked this up at a bargain price so I'm moving it on at the same price, but it's worth at least twice what I'm asking. Chris
17. Happy to split the rig but would prefer collection to posting C
18. Forgot I had this, still for sale
19. Having slagged off their gear - especially cabs - in the past, I've come around to the view that as far as all-round practice/rehearsal/gigging combos go, there is no better brand/manufacturer out there than Marbass. OK, Phil Jones and the like make great gear, but no other manufacturer ticks as many combo boxes as do Markbass. Not only is the gear generally small, lightweight, and surprisingly powerful, but time and again I've found it almost impossible to dial in a bad tone, and I've owned everything from the ludicrously small but perfectly formed 1x8, the 2x6, the 2x10, the 1x12 (the older version that Clarky's selling here) and the 1x15. Great gear. I'm even starting to like the yellow cones
20.
I keep getting drawn back to this... I owned a BB1100s a while back and it was a great bass. Everything I read about the BB1200 tells me that this would a fantastic instrument, and that tone in the last 2 YouTube videos is just awesome...
Hi Mark, I'd say that the tone in those two clips, especially the first, is the out-of-the-box tone on the 1200, it's that good a bass.
21. Many thanks for the links above Dingus. The tone on 'It's Your Thing' is pretty much what I've been using live, tone rolled of a little on the bass going into a Phil Jones rig EQ'd flat, and it is quite simply effortless to-die-for P-Bass tone, full, fat, slightly growly and consistent. Macca's tone is great on some of those tracks also isn't it, always love hid effortless lines. I totally agree with all you've said above, Yamaha Basses have been perhaps the biggest shock I've had in gear terms, I always expected them to be a little sterile and uninspiring, which of course couldn't be farther from the truth. I can't see myself ever going back to a Fender now, unless it's an absolute gem, and of course the problem is that the search for the gem amongst the dogs is both expensive and time consuming (I've played some real dogs made by Fender - even at the very top of their price range and/or in what are supposed to be the classic runs, i.e., 60s/early 70s - whilst I've yet to find one amongst the Yamaha range, even the relatively cheap end). Re weight, I don't have scales here but I'd say it's moderate, certainly not heavy but neither do I pick it up and think "damn, this is light". No trades thanks, and I'd prefer collection or meet-up as a few recent courier incidents have put me off that route. My BB2024 has just gone in for a long overdue warranty repair (something that I do find odd about Yamaha is that they appear to have a reputation for dodgy PUP selector switches), so I won't be able to move this on until I get that back, hopefully late this week/early next. And if you think the tone on the BB1200 is good, wait 'til you hear the BB2024 Chris
22.
I echo everything mentioned earlier. Acoustic basses ceased to have a point when the 90's unplugged craze wore off.
..... but even then they were either mic'd or DI'd. In the absence of amplification of one sort or another, there are few instruments as unfit for purpose as an acoustic bass guitar.
23. No trades on this thanks folks, as I just said in a PM, if I wanted/needed another bass, especially a Precision, I'd be keeping the BB1200
