  1. I'm learning a Who set at the moment. This, not one of their greatest or most recognised, takes my breath away every time I watch it. Mad, odd, loud, visceral (in places), and strangely beautiful, although not in a conventional sense
  2. That was just what a wet Saturday afternoon needed. CB is probably the more technically proficient but man DS getting those parts and tones out of a Ric won it for me 🙏
  3. In response to a couple oif question the bass weighs in at 4.4kgs/9.7 lbs Cheers Chris
  4. Wish I could help but good luck finding a solution, I switched from guts to steels for a gig a couple of months back because I needed to use a mag PUP for volume/feedback reasons, and I was in pain both during the gig and for days afterwards. you're absolutely right to avoid that at all costs 👍
  5. Exactly, designed by 4th former 👍
  6. Especially as they look like shit, the body shape is school project territory....
  7. Anyone out there who's looking for a 70's Precision without paying Fender prices, do yourself a favour and buy this. It's Yamaha (say no more), but also built like a tank, playable, toneful, and lovely to look at 👍
  8. There is no magic in a circuit, in a body, or in a neck. There is magic in the way the musician uses them, and perhaps makes them sing more than he would a different combination. Live at Leeds is magical 👍
  9. What a stunning and evocative instrument 🙏
  10. Still available, happy to talk trades/PX 👍
  11. Having just bought a stupidly expensive and very very rare dream instrument, I'm happy to take offers on this for a week or so, after which I think I'm going to put this and a few other basses on consignment sale which seems to increasingly be the easiest and most trouble free way of doing things (sadly) 👍
  12. I’ll see if I can dig out the interview, have to admit that if I were going to identify the active ingredient of tone in a Precision I’d have put the circuit quite low, but I suspect JE had a good feel for this stuff. When I first read the interview I remember thinking he might have found himself with an instrument with a mutant, even faulty, circuit, that just did the thing he wanted?
  13. … but either way, if I played that bass I would never get that tone, he could play an Encore and would probably get close 👍
  14. Well JE said he was sure it was the circuit, I’m going with him 👍
  15. We agree then, fingers (you need them in the left hand as well) and amplification/volume. I think that’s what I said? But the tone was not in a slab body
  16. JE's sound was 99% size and strength of fingers, plus training in instruments other than bass that gave him a less 'root-fifth mentality' plus having to compete with Mood and Townsend, plus being a naturally curious innovator. The other 1% was the bass. There's a lovely interview somewhere in which JE says he had to be THAT loud to be hear above Townsend, who says he had to be THAT loud to be heard above JE. There is something really magical about the Live at Leeds tone, both bass and guitars, it's utterly visceral at times, a great listen even today 👍
  17. JE believed there was mojo in the circuit from the slab bass. Truth will never be known, but it does demonstrate the (potential) virtue of swapping things around until you find a combination that speaks to you. I've spent most of the last 10-yars doing it 👍
  18. Price POA never a good sign though!
  19. Exactly, can't help thinking this is all just a bit of attention seeking really, or someone trying to prove he can win where everyone else has failed. Either way, I've lost interest so am going to purposefully ignore this thread from now on
  20. You're enjoying this aren't you?
  21. I'm following in the forlorn hope that @EddieG will suddenly wake up and gets this shit sorted via a legal coup de grace rather than toying with Letts like a cat with a half dead mouse. Given the outcome is inevitable, and given how it's progressing, I can help feeling a bit sorry for the mouse
  22. Yep, not a bass
  23. JK plays a lot if the bass parts on synth, part of the reason he and SZ fell out apparently. SZ a genius bass player, JK a close to genius multi instrumentalist and composer
  24. As far as I’m concerned, without photos this is a non-thread 🤔
