1. I have fretted and fretless Status necks on 80's 'ray and Sabre respectively. Both necks are outstanding in every respect to the point that I cannot fault either (apart from the Status logo on the headstock which I hate). In three words, tone, playability, and stability, each of which are especially pronounced on the fretless. I would love a Status neck on my DB!
 2. My '82 Fullerton '57 RI was the lightest Precision I've owned by a country mile, and also had the longest sustain of em all. Playability was also outstanding as was build quality and finish, and the neck was the perfect shape for me. Sounded amazing with rounds but didn't do all that well with flats for some reason so I moved it on (in fact it was a surprisingly contemporary and bright sounding instrument). Given this is a rare finish I don't think £1500 is all that unreasonable?
 3. Any interest before I try eBay at a substantially higher price?
 4. Had a good long play on this at the weekend (something I sadly don't get to do that often) and it really is an outstanding instrument
 5.
Hey man, you sound quite pissed at what you feel are the negative views expressed here. And accusing the UK of exporting rubbish to the USA (WT actual F !!) has done you no favours whatsover. I think you need to get a grip and get this in perspective. YOU have just created your own little X Factor here. It has NOTHING whatever to do with this kid's 'talent' (whatever the f*** that means), or music. This has NOTHING to do with music. Or integrity and fairness. It is simply your wish to give the kid a leg up via a popularity contest because your mate Joe thinks he's more talented than a bunch of other talented musicians. Your arrogance and misguided altruism has actually angered me. This 'kid' can afford lessons with Joe Osborn, there are MANY extremely talented young musicians in the world who will never get that opportunity, in fact many will never even get the opportunity to realise they have the potential to be great musicians. The vast majority of great musicians are struggling and can't support themselves through music. This forum is full of talented musicians who work f***ing hard day and night and hope one day their music will get noticed and that they can make a living doing what they are passionate about instead of having to take a low wage selling sh*t to unsuspecting people in Asda (oh, that's some horrible company the USA exported to the UK isn't it?). FFS! /rant
100% agreement Nige, especially about the X-Factor observation. Hoisted by his own petard there I think
 6.
Hi Chris Loving the v63 do you still have the Ric fretless? John
Hi John, glad you're still liking the v63. Yes, I still have the 4003FL, the FS thread (hijacked from Shaggy's thread) is at http://basschat.co.uk/topic/99327-rickenbacker-mg-4003-fl/page__fromsearch__1. The FL is at least the match of the v63 in terms of quality and sound, with probably the edge in playability (the neck is absolutely outstanding). It's also in immaculate condition. Cheers Chris
 7.
This bass is beautiful and I want it in my life
Ha ha, it's only a credit card payment away zranyard! All seriousness folks, my idea scenario here would be to keep it, but the next best scenario is a PX with a decent but not quite so outstanding instrument, so a nice bass in the £1000-£1500 range plus cash would work very nicely for me. If you're looking to upgrade to a better DB, now could be a very good time to do so
 8. I've just bought a lovely resonator guitar from Kev, and am leaving him feedback not only to say that the guitar is immaculate and that he was a pleasure to deal with at every stage of the process, but that his generosity in selling the instrument in order to help Caden's family is outstanding. He's a true gent in every respect. Thanks Kev Chris
 9. And I'll throw in the stereo box I just found in the bass cupboard which cost about £50 IIRC
 10.
Just to say I'm out of the running, having bought a flatback via Keith. Good luck with the sale though. It sounds like you'll win either way!
Glad to hear it Sarah, that means you've got a decent bass and there's one less person to take this beauty off my hands! Couple of folks have asked for dimensions (apologies for the wait, getting a tape measure proved more challenging than I'd expected!). So...... Total height 187cm Speaking length 105cm Neck length to body joint 47cm Width of neck at nut 40mm (measured with digital callipers so this is exact) Width of neck at joint with body 68mm (again, measured with callipers) Back length 111cm Upper bout width 52cm Lower bout width 66cm Middle bout 36cm Depth 21cm Hope that helps Chris
 11. Just noticed that I cunningly managed to agree with a post that was itself agreeing with my previous post
 12.
If it's a new acquisition I'd agree wholeheartedly with Beedster. When I bought my Bass 400 it took me about 6 months to really get to know it and understand it. I stopped using it for a while and went back to the pair of Orange heads I had at the time. Once I had got to know it I haven't ever looked at another gigging amp (in the last 22 years) as every sound you ever wanted is in there. Persist and you'll save yourself a fortune in GAS you don't even need to have.
+1, took me several months to overcome my original impression that it was a bit agricultural and unsophisticated. In fact I thought I'd been sold a dud when I first played it! However, you will not play an amp that provides more clarity and oomph, so stick at it and find your sound Jim.
 13. Give it time Jim, it's a truly great amp but one that's very hard to get to know, especially after an M-Pulse
 14. In response a couple of questions

£1000 plus shipping is absolutely my lowest price for a cash sale (it cost me close to £1500 to put together - new body/neck £700, horseshoe £250, 60's toaster around £100 (not sure of exact price as Greg installed it!), TRC £75, bridge £75, circuit £100 all told, original jack plate £40, tuners £85, you get the idea!). As I said above, I'd prefer a PX but will trade for a grand cash if needs be
The reason it has '4001' on the TRC is because I wanted a Ric TRC and that's all I could get at the time. Original/authentic examples are not easy things to find!
You can have the bass with either the Hipshot (installed) or the original Ric bridge, if you want both it'll cost you an extra £50
You can have white, tort or black pickguard. Black looks rock, tort looks vintage and white looks authentic Ric!
No original hard case with this bass I'm afraid
The bass is in 100% immaculate condition, I'm pretty sure that with a good clean it would be hard to tell it from new.
Chris
 15. There's been some interest in this but when push has come to shove neither 'buyer' has been able to come up with the cash. Given how much I've got invested in this bass, plus the fact that it's a very bad time to sell, I'd like to offer it as trade/PX only. I'm very keen to get my hands on any of the following, and would happily accept the balance in cash, another instrument that I could sell, wives/girlfriends etc. Fretted 4001/4003 for a straight trade, possibly with cash my way given the horseshoe, condition etc MIJ Precision plus around £550 in cash MIA Precision plus around £450 in cash Decent EUB with/without cash depending on value of instrument High quality guitar combo plus cash Or of course, any combination of the above. No joke, I'd also be interested in a quality mountain bike, having just trashed mine! Chris
 16. Looking at that particular bass I imagine that clear crisp images wouldn't help the sale at all. The seller knows his art
 17.
Hehe....nothing you'd want unfortunately!
I don't believe that for a second Greg! Hope all's well mate, and let me know if you find a grand down the back of the sofa! Chris PS Greg, if you could post a couple of pics with the white pickguard it wouldn't do any harm, and I know the Ric purists out there are not fans of the tort!
 18.
If Tiki613 doesn't take them let me know, cos I'll have them.
OK mate, I'll let you know this evening Chris
 19. Yes but would cost s few pounds more, £45 posted? Chris
 20. Recently acquired Badass II no longer needed for project in question. Come with the slotted brite-tone saddles. £64 posted NOW SOLD Hipshot Ric bridge, brass with chrome finish. Adds about 2 days extra sustain and when highly polished and angled correctly in relation to stage lighting can blind a soundguy at up to 100m. £50 posted C
 21. Bought here a few months back with little previous use, and they've had precisely 60 minutes use since, 25 minutes putting them on, 10 minutes realising that they're not the string for me, and 25 minutes taking them off again. £40 posted. Chris
