I hankered after one for a while but the short scale and the long price put me off
Try me with an offer. I have my eye on something else and want to raise some moolah towards it! And for every £20 less than the £600 I paid him, Beedster owes me a pint
Harsh mate, the fact that you're in a rush to sell ain't no reflection on me, the bass, and the great work Bass Doc did in putting it back together and setting it up. As I said, had a very competitively priced v63 not been wagged under my nose the Faker would have stayed with me, especially given the lovely retro tone that the TIs give it (a tone I can't get out of the v63 as it doesn't have the vintage tone circuit; in fact the circuit in the Faker is substantially better than the circuit in the v63). It just ain't a great time to sell, I lost almost £200 on it selling to you - original Ric parts don't come cheap. If you want your money back quickly I'd split it and sell the parts on eBay. C

Expensive DB for recording, cheap DB for gigs and vids Then again, as you say it'll come back with a great setup, so perhaps a blessing in disguise C

Both Peavey power amps still up for grabs. Far better units than the Peavey label might lead you to believe, so if you're looking to put some tubes into your life, these would be a good start (and remember that solid state into tubes can be just as pleasing a combination as tubes into solid state). Mesa Boogi M-Pulse 600/Venture: sleeve, head box etc
Beedster replied to basshead56's topic in Amps and Cabs
The case for the M-Pulse head is very similar to the case in this listing http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mesa-Boogie-Big-Block-750-Bass-Guitar-Amplifier-Powerhouse-2x12-Bass-Cabinet-/221020340874?pt=UK_MusicalInstr_Amplifiers_RL&hash=item3375d6c28a#ht_4095wt_1173 -

BTW the M-Pulse 600 has a flat (i.e., vertical) front whilst the Venture is angled, so if you have the former it won't fit in the angled case. That would be an extremely expensive mistake. The M-Pulse case is still lovely and very retro looking, just not as big as that you've pictured. C -

You can get both, slanted and flat. Email Oreste at Westside . He's a great guy but be prepared to take out a second mortgage. C -
I would take a good look at this, no doubt a local forum member could take a look for you: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Previously-enjoyed-1980-Rickenbacker-4001-Lefty-Fireglo-excellent-condition-/270978363968?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3f1791b240#ht_1474wt_1173 C

Bass rigs-the bigger the better in my experience.
Cool Did both cabs together sound like the 4x10 on its own? I really like my tone y'see Thanks again for the taking the time to add some input dude! I've considered vertically stacking 2x10s but it didn't quite have the same low end as one big 4x10. Probably not scientifically justifiable but that's just my experience! I like the weight of the 4x10 and the size is more than manageable... I just wanted a 2x10 for smaller jams and rehearsals, which I could stick ontop of the 4x10 at gigs so i'd have the same sound, but more headroom, and closer to my ears! I guess I'll have to find someone who doesn't mine me borrowing, and caning their cab so I can try it out for myself!
No idea about the science but two 2x10s stacked vertically really do seem to do the job. I'd love to give two 2x15's a go. -
All now on the bay but pics were crap due to a) my having not cleaned the lens and my general crapness with a camera anyway! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180883086480?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649#ht_500wt_1188 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180883093779?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649#ht_500wt_1188 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180883096493?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649#ht_500wt_1188 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180883098011?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649#ht_500wt_1188 C

I love the sound of a Mesa 1516EV driven by an all tube head, but I also accept that all the comments above regarding technology-driven improvements in live sound are true. Bottom line is that we all do what we do for different reasons, and if one of those reasons is the sheer adrenaline rush of standing on stage with your trousers flapping, then get a decent big rig. The first time I understood what 'bass' means was when the array I was idly standing next to at Notting Hill Carnival came to life. Visceral doesn't begin to describe it, and like standing at the very edge of a railway platform when a fast train comes through, I defy anyone to deny the sheer rush of the experience. However, the quality of one's hearing, of the live sound overall etc etc probably means such sound is a luxury for those with big stages, good sound guys, understanding roadies, and good ear defending technology. And i wish I had all of them -

I think there's a common misunderstanding that if a '75 doesn't have exactly the same features as a '75RI it's fake -
I have to say that if you're after the classic Amoeg thing in an all valve unit that is lighter, smaller and less monstrously powerful than the classic models, the SVT II-P and the Peavey 120 is the way to go. 4u of portable, relatively light (and relatively cheap) tubey loveliness C
Oh and don't be deceived by the 120w rating, it is LOUD

Thought the Ampeg and Peavey 120 had gone but buyer seems to have disappeared, hence back up, and I will take pics today (sorry, just crap at these things).
Saw this today and alarm bells rang straight away - lots not quite right with it.
Don't see a whole lot wrong, care to enlighten us? -
Bit of work on the saddles and the action would come down easily, it's not a neck problem, it's just that being a neck through there is nothing you can do about the pretty much straight line from nut to saddles. To be honest, this height issue is one of the limitations of Hipshot bridges and is why I've reverted to Rick models, despite their less than ideal intonation options! Having said this, when this arrived from the Bass Doc I was pretty surprised at just how low the action was so it might be that a tweak or two of the rods would get this back to where Clarky and Jack with their evident preference for 'not a real man's action' would prefer Worth mentioning that my reason for sale was genuine in that a rather nice v63 came my way at a price that really made it a no-brainer. I won't say that the Faker matches the v63, but it's certainly not far off (probably a similar difference in quality as you'd find between a Fender Custom Shop and a standard MIA as opposed to that between a Custom shop and a Squier/MIM). Where it does beat the v63 is the circuit (stereo and VTC), the neck (much smoother and much faster), the weight (!) and IME the appearance, which is a lovely old mojo'd patina. Goes without saying that Clarky is a true gent and probably in an even better mood to deal with than normal following his recent victory in the London Mayoral Election
