1. I have to say that it's the only Jazz Bass I'd consider buying (if I had any money that is). It's quite a special instrument and well worth the cash Jay's asking
2. Haven't read the thread but there are two Mesa Boogie Walkabout 12" extension cabs on sale on here at present and IME having woned and sold two a year or so back it's the best 2x12 combination out there barring the two Bag Ends I also stupidly sold last year!
3.
I've used mine a lot for smaller gigs - and also as a light power amp for an Alembic preamp. Gets decent volume without cranking through a single 1x15 (nice Bag End, cheers Chris!) or 1x12. Wouldn't use it for a Goliath 4x10...its not up to that without some help.
Lovely cab that Bag End
4.
In my experience, very underpowered. I owned one for 24 hours. I took it back and got an Ampeg SVT3PRO instead.
That seemed to be the consensus. I was looking for a decent-ish head following the sale of my Mesa gear and saw the unit in question. My thinking on most gear is that online reviews tend to be VERY positive (they're either written by someone who's just bought one and is prone to a little cognitive dissonance regarding any faults, or written by someone with a similar vested interest). So the fact that so many people said this was an underpowerd unit at 200w put me off bidding. I also found quite a few mentions of unreliability also. I'm not saying it's not a great amp, simply that I don't think it's a bargain even at that price. You can pick up very good stuff very cheap at the moment. C
5.
Chris, the bass has an early 70's in at the mo' which sounds great but on second thoughts I should get the original fixed, which has been waiting for about 20 years! Hope it's what doctorbass is after
No worries Keith, good decision. PUP now sold C
6. I'm selling an SD Antiquity II & circuit pretty much unused. If you're looking at the SPB-2, it's something you should consider C
7. Most serious bugs seem to have gone now, but the one that is really annoying is that if I read a thread it no longer appears in searches (e.g., 'Vie Nw Content'). If I reply I can see it in 'My Content', but if I don't reply, it's as if the thread never existed unless I actively work my way through the forum in question. It makes it very hard to follow threads
8. I was interested, but reviews say they're underpowered
9. Clarky and Nodd are on the money with the EKO. I only sold mine to part fund a Takamine B-10. The guy who bought the EKO raved about it after his first rehearsal, saying it was very DB-like; but to be honest, if he sold it, I'd probably buy it back, it's so unique sounding and stylish on the eye. I think the problem with acoustic fretless is that the variability is huge, and you really need to know what sound you're after before buying. Some I've played sound very thin and weak, very few do what the EKO can do, i.e., powerful DB-like tone. And then you've got the risk of feedback feedback versus being able to hear yourself on stage problem! Good luck C
10. Bump for the Strategy. There are several guys from Europe interested in it but the thought of trying to find a courier to take this monster there fills me with dread! C
11. Hi Keith, the SD Antiquity would be a very replacement as a whole PUP, I doubt you could successfully use one half with your existing PUP is that's what you're suggesting? Chris
12. Body sold, SD PUP and the recently found PUP covers (£25 posted) still available Chris
13.
Hmmm, not persuaded by the Aguilar for upright bass - not clear enough (great for electric but that's a different kettle of fish). Think I am going to hang on to the AI rig for the time being and put this FS thread on ice. Plus I managed to sell a couple of other items yesterday, which was helpful. So this is withdrawn. Maybe I should base my rig around this, per Beedster's post above, and flog the Aguilar instead? Not sure about that, so will stick with what I have for now.
Good decision Clarky. Despite what a lot of people say, I have never found a bass guitar amp that does the job with DB (I think guitar amps are better). IMO, a Tech 21 VT Bass Deluxe into the FX loop of the AI and DI to house, and you have a great backline, great monitoring and great FOH sound. There's a reason all my Mesa gear is for sale mate (that and my little girl going through money like it grows on trees)
14. SD Antiquity PUPs & circuit, PUP pretty much unused £60 posted
15.
Stick some photos up and I'll have a real think about it
Done
16. More pics Powerhouse 1x15
17. This is off to eBay tomorrow so I'll entertain serious offers here. Still have the SD Antiquity PUP and circuit also C
18. Pics of body
19. Great rig, couldn't do without mine, I use for electric bass, double bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar and mandolin. Every single one of them sounds great. The most versatile and value for money rig I've ever owned.
20. Body for sale again. I'd forgotten until I took the bass apart that the bass-side bridge screw had broken, and the original buyer, understandably, wanted an all-original & no-problems body. Having pointed this out, both myself and Greg (Shaggy), the previous owner, gigged it happily with four screws holding the bridge in place, so this defect makes no functional difference as far as I can tell. I'll sell the body for £225 posted with the screw in or for £275 with it removed. It really is a stunning piece of ash C PS SD Antiquity Precision PUP still for sale also
21. Thanks for the PMs guys. I'll post photos in the morning and reply to all PMs then also. C
