  1. Nice one, when they arrive check that a) they're not fake and b) that they're not B-stock or similar, sorry to put a downer on what is most likely a bit of good fortune but I bought a lovely set of tapewounds on Amazon a few years back to find that despite them all being in the correct sleves there were two Es and no A, and that the D was from a different set (and shortscale FFS). It was quite an impressive clusterf*** to be honest. No great stress as I saw the problem before I'd even taken the other strings off and when I pressed return I received a refund pretty much immediately. Nonetheless I'd not buy strings from Amazon again, especially not DB strings, and advise you to check your's pretty thoroughly. Restringing a DB only to find the strings ain't 100% as advertised is a time consuming and frustrating process 👍
  2. Yep I would probably have been all over that had I seen it, one of my all time fave bands (nothing like a bit of Credence Clearwater Revival revival either, see covers band thread)
  3. There's a Geordie-based tradesperson who cements usually square pieces of ceramic onto bathroom walls and does a decent job by his own account, he calls himself called the Bonnie Tiler 👍
  4. That’s a level of effort and organisation that has to date been beyond me but which from now is how I roll 🙏
  5. That’s proper band naming 👍
  6. Buy used on BC Rich, most DB strings that are cheap in real terms are also shit in real terms. Put a post in Items Wanted and someone will come up with some, hell I've got about 15 sets here just no idea where they are at present or I'd have offered myself 👍
  7. One of the forums I've sold through, might be Gearspace, only allows FS posts for a fixed period at which point they have to be re-listed. Sad, but perusing the FS forums used to be a mix of joy, excitement, and pain, like listening to a new Tom Waits album. it's now a mix of boredom and despair, more like listening to Morrissey. I'm getting to the point of suggesting to the owners that we double the length of time between bumping FS ads?
  8. Oh Arses
  9. Yes, I used some Gamuts on my Yamaha SLB-100 and it was horrible. I suspect guts, in order to resonate and breath in the beautiful way they do, require the slow acoustic swell of the large wooden body. Note also that guts will not work with a magnetic PUP and tend to have lower output than steels or synthetics so the quality of pickup on your EUB wil also be a factor (on my SLB I was using an high quality underfoot and wing PUPs) But you'll only know if you try it for yourself. If you go for it I suggest that you do not buy new gut strings however, decent ones are bloosy expensive and they will halve in resale value the moment you put them on your instrument. Good luck 👍
  10. Yep, looking at the disparity between the broad economic situation and prices being asked here I totally agree. There seems to be a trend on sites such as eBay and Reverb to price at market value + 25% in the anticipation that the seller will receive offers at around market value. The problem is that this seems to have resulted in rapid inflation here as people price in line with what they're seeing elsewhere, and low sales as the result (frankly I'm bored shitless of seeing the same sellers bumping the same items every three days). I've always said, if a bass or bass amp doesn't sell here within a week or so it's either a niche item or overpriced; some of the people selling for example MIJ Fenders, which are highly regarded here and alway have been, need to reflect on this. The fact that they're listed routinely now at £1250 on eBay or Reverb doesn't mean that's what people will pay. And really, while I'll tolerate the word 'Rare' on eBay listings, used here it means nothing - because we all know the reality - and probably reduces eventual sale value, especially when it's a Squier 🤔
  11. PS how Mach these days, lived there for close to two years about 10 years ago? Still have very fond memories 👍
  12. I don't think we're allowed auctions here
  13. Always good to hear about a hitherto unknown bass forum the day it goes under
  14. I've always loved Hagstrom designs, in the 70's I'd sit and drool at magazine articles about the instruments and the innovations they were bringing to market. This looks like a copout to me, and that classic and enigmatic headstock just looks wrong on such a derivative body shape, like putting a Ric neck on a Precision
  15. Yes, it has something of those post-war visions of future technology about it, almost as if it was actually designed as a school project in the late 50's, the designer promising themselves that one day they would make it real. Then 20 years later.....
  16. Funnily enough I was on the receiving end of some pretty serious abuse when working with a well known muso, although not from him, from his management company. He was always a real gent and would have been mortified if he’d known how his representatives were behaving. That was 30 years ago but I still feel quite angry about it, so I dread to think how Morrisey’s former colleagues - including Marr of course - feel given the massively amplified shit they had to deal with for years
  17. Thanks for that Nik, too often we overlook how ‘stars’ treat other musicians, agents, managers, and crew, without whom none of the magic - for which 99% of the time the star takes the credit - would happen 😕
  18. Totally agree with this, not about all comeback bands for sure, but certainly about some. Guess the motivation for many of the ticket-buying masses isn't to see a great gig and be taken back in time to a happier place, but simply social media bragging rights.....
  19. Yep, it's why a lot of business shut up shop in August There's also a bit of a rush to sell going on at the moment, there's some basses have been sitting in the FS forum for months when previously - and at the prices asked - they'd have sold within weeks, days even. I think that certainly on BC the 'Not played one of those before'/speculative purchase and the 'That's a good investment'/vintage markets have slowed down hugely over the past few years, with people thinking far less emotionally and far more pragmatically about purchases. But yes, the FS threads are getting a little boring and really do need some re-invigoration 🤫
  20. Advice above is good but if that were me I’d be finding either a professional tech or a member here with experience of both the job and the materials. Good luck, Status necks are fast becoming the new Wals in terms of desirability and rarity 👍
  21. I was at a gig Sunday and a mate mentioned the same venue was hosting a pretty big band from the 80's in a few weeks time so I checked it out. Seems the band in question are to all intents a tribute act who one by one have moved over to the band they were tributing, a band that no longer has any of the original lineup (I'm not going to mention names as I think the bassist may be a member here). As musicians would we all do the same if we were asked? Probably. Did I buy tickets? No. Sorry.
  22. I imagine a few NDAs have been signed......
  23. Normally I'd agree (see Gallagher versus Gallagher), but I suspect that Mozza has burned the last remaining bridge; he's been quite unpleasant even in public, I dread to think what he's like to work with over an extended period. I take my hat off to Marr for turning down what could/would no doubt be a massive payday and remaining true to playing music that he likes to play with people he likes to play with. He's also I suspect pragmatic enough to know that the tour would be unlikely to make it past a few weeks.... There's a sense reading around this stuff that people feel that Mozza has reached out with an olive branch and Marr, having not responded, is the bad guy. I suspect the truth is that Mozza - as do Liam and Noel - sees a massive payday plus a potential renaissance of his media status and possibly a chance to restore his very damaged reputation, while Marr simply sees no reason other than money to be involved. Part of me hopes Marr ends up on the Oasis tour just to really piss Mozza off
  24. I find it amazing that Mozza appears to turn this on Marr, whose restraint and humour in response makes Mozza look even more pathetic. A good mate of mine summed things up rather nicely after Rock Astley’s Smiths set at Glasto ‘People love the music of The Smiths so much that they’re prepared to watch literally anyone but Morrisey sing it…’
  25. Midwest Emo is so 2023, it’s moved west since 👍 BTW when I was a kid and first came across the idea of ‘West Coast Rock’, with my Anglo-centric view of music I assumed it was a product of Cornwall, Devon at a stretch. I used to look at pictures of Stevie Nicks on Mac albums and long for my family to book a holiday to Penzance 😆
