  1. Although I actually think you're gonna need two fretless basses
  2. That's the bottom line, informed trial and error is always the best bet 👍
  3. I'm very keen to hear that also @Linus27
  4. Find the core tone you want and work on things from there, I prefer the core tone of flats on fretless, but find TIs a little too flexible for FL, while for example La Bella Deep Talkin' Flats would be way to stiff (and I'm no fan of nylon strings for anything other than a very specific tone, one that I certainly wouldn't think of as versatile in any way). I do have a fretless strung with rounds and there are moments where I prefer it them, but if I had to make the choice it would be flats. Good luck 👍
  5. I had one of these about 5 years back, without doubt one of the best instruments I've ever owned and had it been a 4-string it might have stayed with me. At every level of scrutiny - and assuming it's similar to mine - this is a very very good bass 👍
  6. Pretty standard mod and, assuming you've got half decent PUPs, it's a gamechanger for the bass (not everyone likes the game, but none the less it changes it). If I were doing it for the first time I's wait for one to come up used on here and buy, that way if you don't like it you can move it on for what you paid 👍
  7. Damn, would have loved this @pete.young, until relatively recently I was commuting to Colchester from Kent as well. Bit too far now i'm not Hope you find the right person soon 👍
  8. Salutary lesson about the value we place on things and the value others place on them. Makes me very sad when I see eBay listings from some old-timer who thinks his old ......... is a family heirloom but which, in real terms, there is no longer a market. The world simply doesn't value the old, the inconvenient, or the unfashionable any more. It's a very sad reflection of digital-age values, and quite likely something that will punish future generations in terms of the sheer waste of resources and associated creation of pollution involved
  9. I'm finding a lot of retail folk seem to be adopting a similar approach, acting as if every stage of your interaction with them is a form of 'service' or 'event' worthy of praise and/or feedback.
  10. Someone in online music retail refusing to accept it's their mistake, who'd have thought it 🤔
  11. I wonder if that change in approach has anything to do with the classified sections here?
  12. Is that serious @EBS_freak?
  13. Thanks for posting Marcus, sounds like you're not working in ideal conditions. Hope things improve with the new website and systems 👍
  14. Agreed and agreed But what I find most annoying is their failure to recognise the oldest rule in retail; never ignore a customer. I've had shops be rude to me, give me incorrect information, not have the item in stock after all, forget to send the item, send the wrong item, send the right item to the wrong address, double charge me (one forgetting to charge me but remembering about three months later), even lose the item I've bought, but none of them are as annoying as being repeatedly ignored 🤔
  15. To be honest, I ordered and paid online, in part because I don't want the inevitable "hang on I'll just put you on hold while I check if it's in stock...." or "hang on I'll just put you on hold while I check your account...." or "hang on I'll just put you on hold while I check why it's not been sent....". I think I've got to that point in life - AKA grumpy old git - at which being asked to hold while at the same time being forced to listen to a loud, upper mid-heavy atonal cacophony clearly designed by a neuroscientist to make you give up on the call and if not to beat you into some form of ultra-pliable emotional state in which you'll accept whatever you're offered - and usually having spent about 10 minutes navigating the automated call direction system in the first place - is an irritation I choose to do without! Anyway, I escalated this to PayPal and got a refund (I'd asked BD to do so directly and they hadn't replied). Not a single word from BD in that time though. If they have time to process a refund they also have time to drop a brief reply to one of my emails just to say "Sorry we made a bit of a mess of that, hope you'll come back again in future". I've spent a lot of money with them over the years after all As we all know well, these are very First World problems
  16. I use bass-lead-amp but it works for me in my band, it wouldn't work for me if I was in a different band, if I was in an RHCP tribute for example I'm sure I'd need (want) a load of processing to emulate Flea's parts, in an 80's act I might want to smother fretless in chorus, an originals band might require specific sounds to express the music. I don't think there's any right or wrong, virtuous or deceptive either way. It's not the tool, it's how you use it.
  17. Great for DB, stick it just in front/to the side of you and and get feedback free backline and monitor in one 👍
