  1. Thanks guys, yes I know I should take this to a tech etc but I barely have time to look at Basschat these days let alone find a local guy (most have disappeared round here), drive it there, collect it etc, so frankly thought I'd let someone else have that pleasure. I've checked the tubes I've used with it and both models are pretty low gain so I might try a higher gain version which might do the trick, in which case the price goes back up again
  2. Crikey, it's not easy selling a totally unique high quality and rather unusual bass round here these days
  3. Not that it matters of course, just love that version
  4. Yep, there's a nice feel to GE's band, @JimmySims did you play on the Live Lounge version of These Days?
  5. Watching the Who's Next documentary, love the moment when Glyn Johns says of Pete's demos "How the hell am I going to compete with that'?. What's clear from watching it is that Townsend wasn't just an incredible musician but an equally incredible innovator, his use of synths probably wasn't bettered until Kraftwerk
  6. Like I said above, Thomann appear to share a terrible comms policy with their UK courier, Iโ€™ve heard of this same thing happening so many times - itโ€™s missing, itโ€™s missing, itโ€™s missing, itโ€™s arrived allโ€™s good hereโ€™s your refund - but all the time none of the return process apparently notified by the courier to either Thomann or to the buyer. Even despite this, I assume in the grand scheme of things itโ€™s still sufficiently rare for Thomann to keep DHL under contract
  7. Coming on BC suggesting that 45 years of age is in some way old is a brave move! You should probably head over to BasschatJnr.com which carers for the under 50โ€™s ๐Ÿ‘
  8. 10cc songs, despite their extraordinary diversity in terms of genre, were always instantly recognisable, a truly great but largely forgotten band. And yes, very much the soundtrack to my pre-punk/pre-metal childhood. IIRC that documentary was great ๐Ÿ‘
  9. Only place you should see competition stripes
  10. And FYI folks, three of those bitsas are going to be up for sale this week ๐Ÿ‘
  11. I have got the impression that Thomann and their courier share a complex relationship in which - via a tortuous process of the slow reveal of very poor processing systems - early problems are eventually resolved. Good luck ๐Ÿ‘
  12. It is, I messaged them a few months back as I was hoping to have some work done on one of the Enfields. A couple of weeks later I received a very short but polite reply which simply said 'we are no longer working from our workshop'. Links to but the PUPs are still live, but no links to buy the basses, so I'm assuming PUPs are still being made. Certainly a great upgrade to an instrument, and given the cost of top-end PUPs generally these days - I'm guessing the vast majority of which are imported from the US - really not all that expensive ๐Ÿ‘
  13. Apologies, assumed you were talking about the basses
  14. Yes, astonishingly good, to the point that their discontinuation makes no sense to me given that, while expensive (ยฃ2-3k), so are Fenders, EBMMs and many other production line basses, and these are not production line basses, certainly not in the sense of the big manufacturers. The engineering, mechanical and electrical, is of an extremely high level in both design and execution - the only thing I don't like are the PUP LEDs but it's simple to take them out of the loop - and the sheer quality of the resultant instrument would still be impressive if they were in the ยฃ5-6k range. And no, no cheap supply I'm afraid, they're not made anymore (I got lucky with both to be honest). I was speaking to a guy in 'the business' a while back who seemed to suggest that there was, shall we say, some opposition to the Enfield line, as well as a lot of criticism of there being 'derivative' (which is odd as nearly all top end basses with a few exceptions are derivative in one way or another), and oddly I've also heard they have been accused of plagiarising Wal? Anyway, I'm fortunate to have two beautiful Enfields, and having met Martin and seen his work first hand - not just the quality but the precision and the passion - only makes me more appreciative of them.
  15. It's a nice bass, I would show some photos of the board also, specifically showing that the gloss finish is intact. Most people looking to buy a maple board fretless (which includes me at present), would need to see that the board is perfect or close to perfect before even setting out to try it. I've owned several and love them, but I've also seen - and in one case bought - some necks that looked perfect in photos only to find them close to unplayable as the result of the finish having worn in some places and not others, which is very common with these. All that aside, lovely bass at a lovely price, good luck ๐Ÿ‘
  16. I agree in principle. The flip side of the above is that anxiety is not a positive creative force and you're an improv band about to accept what your band-mates are perceiving as an anxiety inducing gig?
  17. If you're feeling brave, you could use the well know Paul Simenon technique (little known fact is that the photo in question does not capture a moment of existential rage, merely an attempt to loosen a stripped neck screw)..... If not, drill them out ๐Ÿ‘
  18. Idiot probably working under the misconception that anyone at all would notice ๐Ÿ˜Š
  19. Really enjoyed that, great technique, great tone, just the right level of indulgence for what it is. One if the best of the YTs Iโ€™ve seen ๐Ÿ‘
  20. Agreed, I'll add a fourth to that, just occasionally, I can come up with something better, which often means I move towards your second, simpler
  21. As we all know mate, it's as much about the looking good as the being good ๐Ÿ‘
